Ah yes, a late night in Austin, and during SXSW no less. What’s a man to do when those drunken hunger pangs mercilessly strike? Well, for one, don’t go to Big Tex Sausages. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? It’s quick, scrappy, and maybe a little dirty, but you can’t complain considering you’re dealing with street food here. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? What you CAN complain about, dear reader, is the price. What I have pictured below was apparently a Jalapeño Cheese Kielbasa. It was moderately sized, and even if it was purchased at Whole Foods(hint: it wasn’t), it probably costs no more than $ 1. So why the hell did I spend $ 5.50? It sure wasn’t the quality as you’ll see, and it really wasn’t all that convenient. Anything over $ 5 is well into unreasonable territory here: No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Jalapeño Cheese Kielbasa? Uhm, it tasted more like a greasy hot dog. It wasn’t spicy, it wasn’t cheesy, and it flat out was not good. I didn’t feel great after eating it, and that’s grounds for no star status. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? What do you think? No Star Granted.

I can’t believe my face is the main photo for these guys. Should I even be writing a review? I don’t remember this photo. If you want me to be honest I’d say there’s no way I’d eat a sausage from here if I wasn’t drunk. I’m sorry, am I being mean? Kudos to them, they got my business!

AMAZING! The jalapeño cheese sausage is WONDERFUL and the guys working there are great! My boyfriend and I went to Best Wurst and were very disappointed. After trying Big Tex Sauages, we won’t go anywhere else. This place is definitely the place to go :-)

I can’t say I am very impressed with this place. There are a lot of street vendors in Austin, and you would think more of these guys would try harder considering the amount of competition there is. An overcooked brat ona stale bun is pretty damn sorry. I told the cook I was very dissapointed with my sammich, and he gave me some serious attitude. I decided that I had received probably the best I could get with this jerk so I shrugged it off and went on my way.

Yeah, so I tried these guys out this weekend, and, well… nothing special. I got a a Brat with grilled onions and sauerkraut. The onions were under cooked, and it all kind of lacked flavor. On top of that, their whole menu is a blatant rip-off of the Best Wurst down the street. You know its funny to me, I dont even work in the service industry anymore, and have no desire to. However, if I was going to go through the trouble of starting a restaurant, even a little food stand, I would at least try to do something different than whats allready abundant in the area. I actually have a few great ideas, that I have been willing to share with friends. You go downtown these days and you notice a few original places like Kebabalicious, Best Wurst, Mmmmpenandas, and even the Chicago Dog place that all serve great food, and are not trying to immitate the guy down the street. Then you see all the copy cats, and you just have to think to yourself, do these other guys have any brains what so ever?
