I had a to-go order from Bombay Bistro last week, and I’ve been mulling a review in my head. For what i got, it was over-priced and really average. I always try a basic Tikka Masala curry when I first go to an Indian restaurant– that’s my judgement base, and Bombay Bistro’s was subpar. Their curry taste was quite different and almost… sweet? It’s hard to describe, but I wasn’t a fan, and I won’t be going back. Also, I placed an order on Unilocal to be ready at a certain time, but they just made it immeadiately, so it was cold. :(

5 stars during the weekend buffet and 2 stars during the weekday buffet=3 stars! I had only ever been to the buffet on a Sunday, the food is always delish with several options to choose from. I would walk out of there stuffed and satisfied. I went in today(Monday) for my first weekday buffet and I was saddened. They had half the dishes than the weekend buffet, no samosa or other apps that are usually on the line… just a waste of my time and money. I asked why and they said that weekdays are different, it couldn’t be because of a lack of a crowd, the place was packed of people. I won’t be back during the week, I walked outta there with room to spare because the options were so slim. Not happy about it!

This is a beautiful restaurant, with incredible food, and phenomenal customer service. My server, Nick was very polite and helpful! The staff gave wonderful recommendations, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.

I used to really like this place… until I came in for the buffet and there was a roach crawling across the table of food. No thanks.

Dinner is pleasurable. Buffet is hit or miss and for $ 14 is overpriced«when» they wait till the food is almost gone before restocking. The chicken korma is delish but it’s not sold as part of the lunch buffet as the waitress said it was so I ended up having to pay for both the buffet and an order of chicken korma. Bummer. $ 47 for two of us without tip. Also, didn’t get refills on drinks without asking repeatedly and our plates taken up when we stepped away to see if they had stocked the fruit(which they had not). Go for dinner, not lunch.

Pound for pound, I still think this is the best Indian food in Austin. I end up at their buffet nearly every weekend and eat to my heart’s content, and almost all of their dishes are good. The prices for regular meals are competitive with other Indian restaurants in town, and their buffet is relatively inexpensive given the strong quality of the meal. While it still doesn’t compare to my favorite Indian eateries back in the Northeast, this is about the closest place I can find locally to remind me of home, and it more or less does the trick for me. Some of their dishes, like the chicken tikka masala and saag, are much heavier on the cream than I prefer(and seem less authentic and top-notch because of it). Nevertheless, they’re still delicious. The management is generally pretty nice to us, and the kitchen staff are a lively bunch. 99% of my trips here are to the buffet, so that drives my rating. The buffet selection is pretty consistent, which is good because their staple dishes are really tasty. When they do sub in a new dish, it’s usually something I haven’t seen elsewhere and proves to be a refreshing change of pace. They also have a larger buffet selection than the Clay Pit(which I find way overrated) and the food itself is better, certainly not watered-down dishes passing as Indian food(like some of the dishes at Tarka). There are usually two chicken dishes, the tikka masala and a curry. Both have tons of flavor and the chicken is cooked tender. There’s usually a mutton curry as well, if you want a less ordinary experience. Of course they have naan, and while it’s nowhere near the best I’ve had, I’ll gladly eat a few pieces on the days it’s made well(i.e., not greasy or burned). In addition, there are an array of veggie dishes, some featuring heavy cream. I had some excellent spicy broccoli today — this is one trick to get me to eat more vegetables. The best buffet item by far is the Afghan chicken, served by the wing, thigh or breast. It has a nice smoky, herby flavor, always a bit charred on the edges the way I like. Never seen it anywhere else, so it’s always a treat to enjoy it here. There’s usually a couple desserts as well, although my two favorites almost never make an appearance: Their gulab jamun seems to pop up once in a blue moon, and they don’t seem to make ras malai. Oh well, a small price to pay for an otherwise good meal. A couple killer appetizers I used to enjoy up north(including cauliflower cooked in a tomato marinade) are missing here too, but you can’t have it all. Overall, a worthy spot with a quiet, relaxed ambiance inside. It’s usually not crowded on the weekends, though it definitely would be if folks finally realized how good it is.

I didn’t know where to go for good Indian food in Austin so after asking around, people told me that this was the place to go to. First of all, the service here is better than other Indian restaurants. The waiter was attentive and kind. We got chicken tikka masala(good like always), rack of lamb with sag paneer(pardon me if I typed it wrong), samosas, and the curried mussel. The curry was sooooo good. I mixed it with rice! Samosas was good as well, better than the ones I’ve had before. I don’t know how I felt bout the rack of lambs. I had a different image in mind when I ordered that and it was eh. Sag paneer was alright and loved their chicken tikka masala. One thing I didn’t like was the rice… As a professional rice water lol, the rice was not thoroughly washed so I still tasted the grainy flavor(I have a very sensitive taste haha). I didn’t like the taste so I had to put extra curry on my rice and forced it down my throat. I would come back here again if I ever crave Indian food and hope the rice would not taste weird like that.

Looking for some excellet Indian foods, Bombaby Bistro South is the place to go. They have a really nice lunch spread. Tandoori chicken is a must. Be more adventuousome and try the vegetarian dinner. My favorite is Aloo Gobhi which is cauliflower that tastes like chicken. Of course my all time favorite is Saag Paneer.

Oh well I never reviewed this place I see so here goes. Actually I haven’t eaten here in years for some reason or another until recently. Lately I have been back a couple times in the past few weeks. I really like it! They get the food out quick. The spicing is quite traditional not gringoized. Prices are reasonable and serving sizes are very adequate as far as Indian restaurants go. I think I will frequent a little more often especially when jonesing for the Lamb roganjosh and bhindi masala. I don’t know a better Indian restaurant in Austin, do you?

This is the best Indian restaurant in the area. Nick is a gracious host and makes sure everyone gets good service. The lunch buffet is great but the dinners are even better as they are cooked fresh. Everything about this place is 5 stars including the reasonable prices.

I stopped in here one evening on my lunch hour because it is right around the corner from my office and I was craving some chicken tikka masala. I was a bit surprised actually that the atmosphere was so nice on the inside. I was expecting more of a hole in the wall type of place I guess. I was impressed. I was seated immediately and began to peruse the menu. My waiter came to take my order and I ordered exactly what I wanted — the chicken tikka masala. He asked about the spice level. I wanted it spicy! So if this is a concern for you they seem to cater to it. In little to no time I was served up a delicious feast! One order was definitely enough for 2 people. It was served family style. I plated my food and went after it! I loved that the sauce was creamy and exploding with spice! The Naan bread was buttery and great too! I am absolutely a fan of this spot and I look forward to going back with other people so we can share and explore the menu thoroughly! They do a lot of take out orders I noticed too.

I could eat here everyday. Hands down the best indian food in town. I have tried almost every other spot in town multiple times and nothing compares to Bombay! Order anything on the menu and you wont be disappointed. FLAVORFLAVORFLAVOR. And if you like HEAT… They bring it to you! Ask the waiter for the habanero paste. You’ll thank me later! If a single person orders 3 entrees with each visit one of which is ALWAYS the Khyberi Ghost, you should probably say that that is one of the best dishes on the menu. GETIT.

I think that this is the best buffet that I have had in the US so far(and I have had a fair few). The menu was not elaborate but the food was simple, delicious and FRESH! The staff were refilling the contents of each of the dishes periodically to ensure that the food doesn’t get cold. It also made a huge difference for curries which tend to get dry and coagulated when they are left out for that long. The naans were soft and warm and the meat was cooked really well. Definitely would return here the next time I am in Austin.

So to start, I am not an expert at Indian food but this seemed legit and was better than many of the others I have had in town. I ordered lamb tikka masala and naan. It was really tasty with the right level of spice. The menu was extensive so I need to come back and try some more. The staff was friendly and always coming back to check on me and make sure I was fine. The restaurant was pretty nice. I can see me bring a date here or even like a girlfriend’s family or whatever. However, it won’t break the bank. The food isn’t cheap, but it’s not pricey either. Overall, my experience was great and I will come back. Great food at a reasonable price, very awesome restaurant with amazing staff. What more can you ask for?

I’ve had a lot better. You won’t find excellent Indian food here. The cooks and staff were indian and there were indian people eating at the restaurant. i cant explain this. Maybe my standards are higher. Anyways i will search again and try a different restaurant since I’m new to Austin.

First time here and expectations were high! Really disappointed as the gobi manchurian was to sweet and the mix pakora were oily and hard. My friend went to get some naan and the man at the booth just came and picked his plate. Talk about manners! !! At least ask if your done! ! Never again Bombay bistro

I tried to order from this place for an hour. They told me to order from eatoutin and bitesquad. But both services said that they were closed for delivery. I called them and they said that they weren’t closed for delivery and I should try to download an ap called Favor. I downloaded the ap. Apparently Favor doesn’t deliver south of I-71, which I am… by two blocks. They refused to make an exception. I called the restaurant back and told them that I couldn’t get Favor to deliver to me. They said that there was nothing that they could do. I said, that they could: 1– Correct their delivery times with eatoutin or bitesquad, 2– Recognize that Favor doesn’t deliver south of I-71 and make sure that customers know that before referring them, or 3– Have an employee drive it by the hotel on their way home because they were about to close at this point. They insisted that there was nothing that they could do. The could not control the hours that a 3rd party lists for their delivery, or the places that a third party delivers to. I tried re-explaining that they should be able to control the hours that they are listed as open, etc. They weren’t having it. 45 minutes later, I get a phone call from the restaurant that they have my food they’ve been closed for 15 minutes, and am I going to come pick it up? No. No, I’m not, because I CAN’T. I don’t have a car. That’s why I’m trying to order delivery.

My family and I wanted to try a deal from BiteSquad Austin for Bombay Bistro. We had our meal and then presented the server with the Facebook offer from BiteSquad with instructions to show them the offer. They refused it. They refused it?!? It is the law to honor ads that you put out until such time as you fix them or publish a change. The manager hemmed and haw’ed about how he wasn’t doing in-store offers and yet the offer was for in-store. He continued to tell me that he would not do anything for us. In the game of winning over a new customer they lost. That is probably why we were the only ones in the restaurant at dinner-time.

This place is yummmazing! I came right as it opened so I had everything fresh. The first thing I had was the potato fritters with chickpeas, and it was at the Chat Station. It had a really nice kick to the sauce, and the potato fritters were crispy yet soft in the center. Since this was a buffet, there’s no point to go through everything that I ate. I can tell you that my favorite chicken dish was the Chicken Tandoori. It was fresh off the grill. The smoked flavor along with the juiciness of the chicken made for a perfect first bite :). Also, lookout for their spinach and cream. Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of it but it is definitely something that you want to put on your plate at least twice! What I really appreciate was the staff that explained each dish to me because of my dietary restrictions. They even set the time that the fruit was set out and the discard time just to ensure that its fresh!
