Com Chi Food to Go

I’ve only been here once so far, so maybe my rating might change after another few visits. The café is small with a few tables, but they’re mainly designed as a take-​out restaurant – hence the name.
Essentially, ordering is similar to one of those Chinese fast-​food restaurants in malls where you pay a set amount for rice and two or three side dishes of your choice. Except, this place is Vietnamese.
Some of the dishes are authentically Vietnamese that you will rarely find anywhere. I took a friend of mine there and we each ordered different dishes. I ordered one dish that I cook at home to use as a benchmark and then a few others that I was less familiar with.
Overall, the food was pretty good and served with two large scoops of rice. I think it was something like $ 4 for rice/​noodles with 2 side dishes and $ 5 with 3 side dishes. I wasn’t terribly impressed with their version of the stew that I like, but then again, I’ve never really tasted any other version but mine, my mom’s, and grandmother’s. For all I know, theirs could be more authentic.
The food is displayed just like the Chinese fast food restaurants, so you can just point to whatever looks good. There were about a dozen different choices as well as a few a la cart items written on a chalkboard.
My mom has been there and had their Vietnamese sandwiches, Banh Mi, and she says they’re pretty good for Austin. If I remember correctly, you can buy 3 (or 4) and get one free. You don’t really see that in Austin, but it’s fairly common in Houston and Dallas Vietnamese sandwich shops.
The place was very clean with pleasant service. My friend forgot his bag in the restaurant which included his wallet, subcompact Sony Vaio and PDA cell phone. The restaurant was closed when we realized it, but they held it in the back for him to pick up the next day. He got everything back with no problems.
