Best Mexican Breakfast in North Austin. All you can drink Horchata. 2 Migas Tacos w/Habenero Salsa and you are good till 4pm. The owners are nice young kids. They actually delivered a menu to my office so I can order.

I went here with some co-workers for a quick lunch. It was definitely fast, the food came out quickly. The waiters are friendly and informative. It has a family restaurant kind of feeling in terms of the waitstaff. However, the atmosphere is def. lacking. The lights are pretty terrible, and the place smells of cigarettes although there was no one smoking when we went. It kind of reminding me of an old road-side bar in the way it felt. I’d honestly give the ambience 2-stars. I was a bit disappointed that the chips and salsa have a $ 2 fee attached to them, but they were pretty tasty. No spice in the salsa though, but the chips tasted homemade. I had the fajita combination plate, and for the price, it was excellent. $ 8.99 for chicken and beef fajita slices, rice, beans, tortillas and some shredded lettuce with sour cream is not bad! They didn’t come sizzling on a fajita platter, but they were cheap and tasty! Overall, not a place to take someone to impress, but a great place to have a quick, standard tex-mex lunch.

Every Friday someone from my office picks up breakfast tacos. This was my week to pick em up. I decided to try something new as we have recently relocated. First I thought I would go to Texan Market, but they were $ 2 a pop and honestly did not look appetizing(no egg & potato!!). Then I thought, why don’t I try to go to Taco Shack. But, I couldn’t remember where on Metric that was, so I decided to check out El Grito. I was initially apprehensive about El Grito because it looks pretty sketchy from the outside. It kind of looks like a biker bar from the outside. However, one thing that I have learned from my past experiences is that some of the best Mexican restaurants are holes-in-the-wall. The interior was perfectly acceptable. Nothing to write home about, but clean. That assuaged my initial fear. The guy behind the counter was really nice and I think a little taken aback that I ordered 20 breakfast tacos. The tacos were a huge hit at the office. I got the«Very Hot», «Hot», and«Mild» salsa. The«Very Hot» was just that, very hot, but very interesting. It was a little sweet — kind of tasted like carrots. It looked kinda gross, but I recommend it. The potatoes were well seasoned. The meat was apparently good as well. Pretty sure we found our go-to for breakfast tacos. Now, to try the lunch… Okay, just got back from lunch at this place. Fantastic. The Enchiladas were tasty. The only downside was that the chips were $ 1.99. However, I quickly forgave them because they are homemade and fantastic — seriously worth every penny. I’ll be back… maybe even tomorrow.

Hiding around the corner at the Merriltown/Mopac underpass is the El Grito Café. If you like migas plates, one of my favorite Mexican food breakfasts, you have to try the migas tacos, something I had never seen before as a breakfast taco. They brought out two kinds of salsa with these and I devoured both of them. I did not think the food was bland at all, and I am kind of picky about my migas. There is another place around here that got a negative review from me. Quite reasonably priced, I had 2 of these and coffee for $ 4.50. They also have full breakfast plates for $ 6.99. Like the other poster, I have only had breakfast, so I can’t yet vouch for lunch and dinner. But if you live in the Wells Branch/Burnet road area, do yourself a favor and stop by for breakfast.

Review only for breakfast tacos: They are cheap($ 1), and that’s why they get two stars. The salsa is boring, and tasteless. The egg aren’t scrambled, but more like an omelet folded over and put into a tortilla. All of it was very bland. The interior is typical of any strip mall café. The employees were extremely nice and friendly. If they could improve the taste of the tacos and salsa they might have a chance of sticking around.
