Best dive bar in the most northern part of Austin! I have been here a few times now and each time is an experience. Ordered food one time and it exceeded my expectations. Service was great as you get the same respect that you give. If you’re into fancy, trendy, and hipster this is probably not for you. But, if you like cool people, cheap beer, and good food this is the real deal.

Non smoky smoking bar! They have everything here; video games, board games, pool table, shuffleboard, poker, dart leagues and tournaments, karaōke, modern juke box, cheap drinks and specials all the time. If you check in on Facebook you get your first drink for $ 2.00! No restrictions! Oh and the food has to be the best food I’ve had in a long time. Pops runs the kitchen and he makes some seriously delicious meals and has specials everyday. Open for lunch at 11am until 10pm unless it’s busy, then he’ll stay later. This place is really cool, fun and everyone is super friendly. Bar staff is mostly new and really happy with their jobs. Highly recommended!

pop’s food man. I’m telling ya, if that porkchop sandwich had a dick, I’d let it stick it in my butt.

At first glance it was a typical Wells Branch bar. Unique in that you could smoke inside(A luxury in this day and age) They had a kitchen which I constantly wondered about for a while. But never gave it much of a chance. Then I heard from a friend they got a new chef/cook. And that he was pretty damn good. I ended up wandering in and ordering up. The menu wasn’t too fancy. Some BBQ staples(Sandwiches, tacos, nachos.) Burgers, Fries and wings. Not too fancy and not too hard to pull off. But truly good examples are a bit rare. The food is good. I’ve had the burgers and wings so far. And I’m going to be coming back for more. And it’s served with pride. My five stars are because with the new cook, TBags does what it does well. And what it does is be that little neighborhood hole in the wall where ya bring your friends.

BLEH! I’d only recommend coming here if you absolutely love smoke and really dislike breathing. It’s like any other dive bar around, cheap drinks, they may even have some food(I’m not sure), only so smoke-filled it’s actually kind of impressive. If that’s your thing, cool, but definitely not my cup of tea.

This place used to be cool… now, they boast crickets. The bar staff was rude as well. Maybe that has something to do with the lack of customers!

Just your little whole in the wall bar. The food used to be terrible but my recent visit left me very satisfied! The BBQ plates are inexpensive and VERY tasty!

We came here to support a friend of a friend’s band. We were here for two hours and we smelled like ashtrays by the time we left. We weren’t even sitting near anyone who was smoking.

A smoking bar in far North Austin. Friendly staff, good price on drinks but could only stay for about one hour. I was busy and the smoke inside was heavy. My eyes were watering and I couldn’t stop coughing. Ill give three stars but I wont go back for the atmosphere.

If you are looking for a good dive bar location in North Austin, T-BAGs is your place. Since it is just on the outside edge of the city ordinance smoking ban, you can’t smoke there. This is both a pro and a con. Personally, while I don’t smoke, I definitely enjoyed the ambiance of most dive bars in Austin pre-smoking ban, but ever since the ban, my body has clearly gotten used to it and I always stink of smoke regardless of how long I’m there. That said. The beer is cheap and plentiful, the staff and patrons are always in good spirits, music the circulates through there is usually very good. Free poker games throughout the week with $ 20 pots to win. Might not seem like a big pot to win but when its free and a legal game of poker to play with other seriously good poker players, it still turns into a fun night. If you can handle the smoke, then you’ll love this place. Other thing to be cautious of is the parking lot is cramped and not the best in terms of security. So hopefully you can grab a spot, but if you do… make sure all valuables are hidden or removed from the car.

It’s ok I guess. Typical hole in the wall neighborhood bar. Staff seemed friendly, but were not overly attentive. Didn’t charge me for one of my drinks, even after me trying to get their attention for about 45 min. My gain I guess. Good thing is you can smoke. Not that I do, but my companions do. Didn’t try the food, as the menu was not all that impressive. The couple next to us got what looked like queso in a dinky plastic soufflé cup. Beer was cheap, shots were not. A «cheap» shot cost what 2 beers did. eh, may be back, may not. Overall, it was an Ok place to hang out for a few drinks. The place definitely had its regulars, but outsiders seem to be ignored.

This is definitely The Horseshoe Lounge of north Austin. Interestingly, this bar also falls beyond the realm of the smoke ban, so you can light up freely w/o any worry or precautions. Cheap domestic beers, NASCAR on the tube, & darked-out windows makes this a diamond in the North ATX rough! The bar staff is friendly & the patrons seemed to be regulars who frequent the place regularly, & had a «Cheers”-like personality about them. This unholiest of dive bars is a place I wouldn’t frequent all that much if I lived in Wells Branch but bars like this are a dying breed here & it’s nice to know that Texas Bar has survived.

That was a good time. I probably won’t be coming anymore, since I tried to pay for my bill. I hang with generous people. But the friendly, fun atmosphere made me want to come out of my shell. I will miss it.

This place is mystifying. I’ve been here a total of three times and each time was completely different from the one before. Had a great time listening to the karaōke singers and then the next time we went it was as if I was an outsider coming into a safe house. Pros: Smoking Cons: Smoking I will be going back i’m sure because of its proximity to my house but I should probably roll dice as to whether its going to be a good night.

been in Texas over 3 years now and hadn’t experienced racism until I went to this bar. The staff is racist and made comments that weren’t very nice. Alright here’s the scene; «let me get a Coors light.» Bartender says, «ok. You got a green card?» WTF! Even i thought that was funny but come on! IT wasn’t just the comment but the body language and the stares made me actually leave the place. FFFF ‘em! Too bad, since this place is walking distance for me. Plus the smoking that goes on in there is absurd!

No, the bar is not on fire… it just attracts a lot of smokers. This place is fun little dive bar but not meant to be ventured by the preggers, the asthmatics, or former smokers who are itching to smoke that«last cigarette.» Smoke plumes dance out of the door as you walk in. It is that bad. I do love hole in the wall bars, though. The beers are cheap and the employees are friendly. My fiancé left his credit card behind on a Friday evening and I went to pick it up for him on Monday. I showed up at 11:55 am and there was a small crowd waiting to get inside the door. Now those are some devoted drinkers! I swear, one lady was in her 80’s! I didn’t try anything off the menu so I can’t speak for the food but the ambiance is exactly what you are expecting it to be. No frills, no glitz or glamor, and certainly no high prices.

Beer: Cheap; Food: Not bad; Allyson the manager: Awesome. Clientele: Trends toward the Douchey. Lotta people there seem to be skipping some kind of 12-step meeting. You can occaisionally watch fights there(between the customers) without the PPV surcharges.
