Furniture In the Raw Austin

When I came to this site to write my review I was not surprised to find stories of frustration and poor service similar to mine. In our case we ordered 4 twin bed frames and chose a stain specifically to match our woodwork. We ordered well in advance of moving into our new home due to expected supply delays etc. and the beds, once ready, were held for us. After delivery I noted that they did not seem to be the beds we had ordered but due to so much new house stuff going on I had to check the paperwork. Sure enough, we had ordered the Panhandle Basic Platform bed frame, shown to be a very simple four legged frame with solid slats. Ours arrived with solid platform bases and a fifth "supporting" leg, neither of which I wanted. Upon my call to FITR I was told that sometimes the manufacturer makes changes and that in fact what I now had was a higher quality bed. This is a matter of opinion. It is not the bed we wanted, nor ordered, for our own reasons. I pointed out that if the manufacturer makes changes then we should have been called and alerted to see if we still wanted the product with this change, as is usual practice. After some back and forth we were offered for the solid platforms to be exchanged for slats, which we agreed to. The delivery men arrived with slats, indeed, but a totally different set up again and they noted that the construction of the original bed frame would not allow the removal of the center leg, and rather than solid wide slats, these were cheap ribboned substitutes. Under those conditions we were told the delivery men not to bother making any changes and that I was going to call the office. (I was told I needed to be very specific about my original order.) Again, whereas it was all friendliness and smiles in the ordering process, as others have suffered, when it came to trying to correct the order to get what we had originally ordered, all was curt. The story changed so many times as to why we could not have the beds we originally ordered...from the original "the manufacturer sometimes makes changes" to "that bed is no longer available", to "that bed does not exist". They insist that it was called a "platform bed" and that is what I got, with no accounting for the style we chose, which means that whatever I ordered didn't matter...it was going to be up to them what got delivered and that's what we are now stuck with. It seems the bed I ordered is just advertising fantasy. I do not wish to entertain any more stress over this and plan on selling these beds on as there is nothing wrong with them other than they are not what we wanted and not what we ordered. I am reporting here as to our really lousy experience as a warning to others that "BUYER BEWARE!" I will never buy from FITR again and I will warn anyone searching for such furniture to look elsewhere. Shame on them.

After spending 2 hours at Furniture in the Raw (FITR), we paid nearly $ 3,500 for a custom ordered dinning room table set (to include chairs and benches). The salesman filled out the required paperwork to include recording the product number for the tables and chairs. After waiting over 2 months, the wrong table was delivered to our house. When we noticed it as they were installing the table in our dinning room, FITR apologized for the mistake, and promised that they would help resolve the issue. In the mean time, they told us that we could «temporarily» keep the wrong table until the right table could be ordered and delivered.
Over the course of the month, we had multiple events that portrayed to us that FITR had no intention of taking back the table and chairs. Instead, they showed us a continual «bait and switch» behavior that ultimately left us with a $ 3,500 table set that we never ordered. This includes:
1. The custom table that the salesman sold us did not exist and the product number written on the invoice was to a table we never saw or spoke about.
2. Despite initially admitting that the wrong table was ordered, FITR was unwilling to provide a refund, because we approved and signed the original purchase order. We were informed by the owner that it was our responsibility to ensure that the salesman utilized the right product number when the table was ordered.
3. Despite telling us that we could temporarily keep the wrong table until the issue could be resolved, FITR eventually would not take the table back unless we paid a 15% restocking fee.
4. When we finally and reluctantly decided to pay the 15% restocking fee, the owner informed us that additional fees would be added onto the return process resulting in an additional 10% in costs (totaling 25% of the original cost).
5. Approximately 2 hours prior to FITR picking up the table and chair (at the higher recovery cost), I was sent an email from the owner of FITR telling me that if I did not respond to the email in the next 15 minutes and confirm my acceptance of the higher restocking fees, they would not be sending their delivery person to our home. After my wife notified me that FITR did not pick up the furniture as originally planned, I looked at my email and realized that the owner only gave me 15 minutes to respond. Despite being many hours late, I quickly replied and told FITR that we were reluctantly willing to accept the higher fees in order to be done with this 3 month ordeal and asked when we could reschedule the pickup. FITR stopped communicating with us and has not responded to any of my inquiries since then.
6. After 2 weeks of not hearing back from FITR (to include the owners), I reluctantly realized that they had never intended on taking the table and chairs back under any conditions. I stopped reaching out to them. As a result, we are now the owners of a $ 3,500 table set that we did not want.
When we begun the process of purchasing the table/​chair, our experience was amazing. Staff was friendly and showed a wiliness to guide us through the entire process. However, when issues were discovered, the behavior and attitude of FITR (to include that of the owners) quickly reversed. In all my experiences of purchasing homes, vehicles, furniture, or other services/​goods. In my experience of negotiating contracts and doing business with other vendors, I have never had as bad of an experience as I did with FITR once we requested a refund.
An organization’s true character, value, and integrity is best defined by how they resolve the problems and issues that come up. Based upon my personal experience with FITR, I have found that FITR is an organization that I will not only never do business with again, but an organization that I will now publicly, pro-​actively, and regularly warn people against.

I would like to be able to rate my experience higher than 5 stars. I started working with Heidi in April, spending an entire day emailing back and forth with questions, request for pictures, and price quotes for 2 different completely bedroom sets. (I live in Richardson, TX and the store is located in Austin, so I was buying site unseen (except for ton of pictures Heidi sent from the store). It took a long time for me to decide and Heidi was infinitely patient in answering questions and sending pictures. After I made my selection I remember her saying I wouldn’t be disappointed. I just received the furniture and she was right. I am absolutely thrilled with my furniture. It is exactly what I wanted. Not only is it beautiful, the finishing is gorgeous and you can definitely it is quality furniture. I will definitely be buying my dining room set from them. So easy to work with, from beginning to end. The delivery went smoothly — very courteous. If you want quality wood furniture, I will repeat what Heidi told me — you won’t be disappointed.

This store is fantastic! Ask for Heidi Barrick! She will handle your needs with total profecialism and she is super quick to respond no matter what the issue. I live in Northern California and needed something special… she handled everything without any stress on my end!

We recently purchased a table, chairs and a bench from Furniture in the Raw Austin and were very happy with our service and our products. We first knew we liked the place because it is locally made and because our interaction with the sales rep — Derrick — was so good.
During our first visit, we just wanted to browse and were not ready to buy. He was very understanding and wasn’t pushy (I hate most furniture sales folks because that are so aggressive). We came back about two weeks later and Derrick remembered us and what we were looking at. We picked our pieces but the store didn’t have the exact color of paint we were looking for so they let us go a few doors down to Sherwin Williams and pick out our paint. We brought back a paint swatch and it was as easy as that.
Because we wanted some specific colors and styles, our wait period for the furniture was about 6 weeks. This was what was quoted and what was expected. (I don’t understand other reviewers who complain about the time it takes to make custom furniture. .. it’s not Wal-​Mart!!). Our furniture was completed and delivered on-​time. The delivery guys were very good and very professional. We just built our home and they laid down blankets on the hard wood floors and were very careful in our home — very impressive!
What finally made me a big fan was our table had a slight rock to it because we have natural stone flooring and it I slightly uneven. I went to the store, Derrick greeted us and asked us about our specific furniture (good memory) and when we told him that we had an issue with our floor — he without hesitation scheduled a team to come all the way to Georgetown to address the issue for us (Again — an issue with our floor, not their product) and no charge to me. This is amazing customer service that you just don’t find at many places anymore.
Did I mention that the price of our custom furniture. .. which looks amazing. .. was about the same or slight less cost than what we found at other furniture stores in the area!
And one more time — this is custom made and finished Furniture. .. it takes time for a reason! I will take time and quality over fast and crappy any day!
A+ EXPERIENCE and A+ Product.

About 2 months ago I went into this store with my partner looking for a quality solid wood entertainment center for our new 70″ TV.
We found one that suited our needs and I paid half at the original purchase and we were given a time frame for them to get the console ordered, stained and delivered. We felt the price was good and the style was just right for what we wanted.
After waiting several weeks for deliverY I arranged to stay home for 4 hours for it to be delivered. Finally, that delivery day came. When it showed up it looked pretty good until I noticed what looked like some kind of spill or splatters on the top. The delivery staff were very friendly, but this is where it started to go bad. We tried to wipe off the splattered area, but it was clear that it was set in. I was led to believe that possibly someone could come out and repair it which was not the case. The delivery called the store manager and had already texted photos of the damage. I overheard the manager on the phone claiming he couldn’t see any damage until he finally did. All the while I could here this manager grumbling and placing blame on the manufacturer etc.
So, turns out we were going to have to wait 6 weeks for a new one as they couldn’t actually get anyone out to fix it. So, I was given 2 options. They could order a new one (6 weeks more) or they could come back out and pick it up and take it to wherever for sanding down and refinish which would be 1 week to 10 days. After mulling it over we opted to have it repaired.
So, now I have to schedule a 2^nd 4 hour window so they can come pick up the item for refinish. Like I got nothing better in my life, but to sit at home eating Bön bons and wait for this 4 hour window. The come and pick it up finally.
Now, I’m waiting for the console to be repaired. The 7 to 10 days goes by with no update so I stop in the store. The lady calls around and after some confusion YAY it’s all done and ready so I schedule the 3^rd 4 hour window expecting my beautiful TV console to be delivered.
The delivery crew shows up on the delivery date and I’m very eager to get it. Immediately, I notice it’s all dusty, but I thought no big deal. That won’t be any problem. I first check and as promised the top has been refinished and looks great, no sign of the splatters. Then, I see a 3″ gouge in one of the doors. I can’t believe it. I inspect the rest of the piece to discover a big chunk is also missing out of the front left leg.
At this point I’m so exasperated I can’t believe it. I’m told by delivery crew that they are required to try and repair it. So that’s when he uses an «epoxy» crayon thing to fill in the gouge in the door. He does the best he can, but it looks damaged and there was no way that epoxy crayon was going to fix the chunk of wood missing from the leg.
After all of this I finally just said take it back I’m done. My money was refunded, but there was really no attempt to make this right. My partner even called the store and didn’t get any better story.
What I would like to say is All the sales staff were friendly and so were the 2 separate crews of delivery people. My understanding is that the problem seems to lie with an ABSENTEE store manager who never is around when there is a problem and apparently works from home most of the time. That was according to a few sources that work there. How can you run a furniture store with an offsite manager?
I was so disappointed as was my partner. So here we are nearly 3 months later with our brand new 70″ TV still sitting in a box.
I felt like I was really fair about this review. I would also like to mention that we had considered buying an expensive Murphy Bed which was about $ 4,000 from this store, but are ver glad we didn’t now.
It seems like there is a serious management problem and I hope the owner is made aware of it so that future customers don’t have to go through such a fiasco. It’s such a shame because they do have some beautiful furniture. Whether it will show up in one piece is another story. At least I got a refund, but I felt it was important to share this experience.

Quality, real wood furniture, reasonable prices, friendly sales staff and delivery crew. We’ve bought several pieces from here and we are very happy with the pieces. Takes a long while to get the items though — expect 6 – 8 weeks or more.

Hope you don’t need the furniture…
So we purchased 2 desks and a nightstand during the Labor Day sale and really liked both the price and quality of the items. While I completely understood that it was a busy time for the company, we were told that delivery was within 2 – 3 weeks; they actually had all but 1 item in stock currently. When I called back 2 weeks later to figure out when we would be receiving our furniture, they told me that actually the delivery would be 2 – 3 weeks to their warehouse. They would call me within 3 weeks to schedule the appointment for delivery. We scheduled the delivery and it turns out they only delivery on two days out of the week: Thursday and Saturday. Also, they are unable to give appointment windows; they will call you the day before to give a three hour window.
So if you decide to purchase anything from this store, bring your own truck to take it yourself or plan at least a month in advance. I will update once it is brought to my house, but I am not happy with the customer service.

I purchased a bed frame and box spring set this month and my purchase just arrived today. The day I went to the store the staff was friendly and did an excellent job of explaining each piece I was interested in. I worked with Cassie and she was definitely patient and knowledgeable. She explained my options and made sure I understood what she said. My bed frame is amazing and I am so happy that I went to this store. They genuinely want you to be happy with what you purchase. I will be making future purchases from this company.

We bought a smaller kitchen table about 3×5 with 4 chairs for about $ 1300 and had it finished at the factory. Overall we were disappointed with our purchase because of the time it took to get delivered and we thought this furniture was high quality Carolina furniture that was made by craftsman vs what many places sell which is veneer finished furniture made in china.
Delivery was suppose to be 6 to 8 weeks but it took 11 weeks to come in and get delivered. When delivered, the seat for one of the chairs was loose and there was a nick in one chair that appeared to be a small piece of wood that splintered off and left an area of the finish where you could see the bare wood from where it was nicked. The delivery man was able to tighten the seat so it would not be loose & wiggle which tells me the wood is not glued together when assembled. He also took a magic marker that he had to match the stain and colored the bare wood that you could see due to the nick in order to hide the small area that was damaged.
From a distance of a few feet, the table looks great, but after a close inspection, the quality of this furniture is disappointing. When you rub your fingers along the finish in several areas the surface is rough and it appears the wood was not completely sanded smooth before it was finished. One leg of the chair was not cut square and had a concave curve to it and the legs are suppose to be square. One joint you can tell the legs were not cut properly and they were just screwed together and there is a gap about the width of a dime in between the joint where two pieces of wood are suppose to meet and they should fit flush. There were a few other nicks in the finish you can feel when you run your hands along the finish and it just looks like there was some dirt of debris on the table before it was finished. It also looks like the finish is sprayed on vs a hand finish because some areas are lighter and some areas are darker.
We accepted the furniture as is because we don’t want to wait 3 months for another set but we would not recommend this furniture if you are picky about the details and expect furniture to be smooth and hand crafted. Its just average and perhaps slightly below average quality due to the joinery and finish work. We could have bought a kitchen table for less but thought the furniture was craftsman quality and its not. I will say, our salesman was very knowledgeable and friendly. I feel bad about writing this review but when you buy new furniture, it should come without marks & nicks and all the pieces should fit together nice and tight.

My wife and I ordered a table and six chairs, a coffee table, and a tv stand from furniture in the raw when we moved to Austin this summer. We were impressed with the quality of the solid wood furniture, and we liked our sales person (I don’t recall his name, but he was very patient and friendly). Unfortunately, it all went down hill from here.
First of all, we found out, right before sealing the deal, that the coffee table was going to take an extra two weeks beyond the other furniture (for a total of ten weeks wait), and that we would have to pick it up, or wait the entire 10 weeks for everything.
At some point nearing the 8 weeks mark, I called to see when we could have it delivered. I know for a fact that the lady I spoke with said the following Wednesday. I called on Tuesday, and suddenly it had become the following Friday. Furthermore, the lady I spoke with was quite rude about the whole ordeal.
When we receive our furniture (and the delivery guys were great, BTW) we were somewhat disappointed with the stains. We had ordered our table in one stain, and the sales person had assured us that the TV stand, although not having the exact same stain, would be imperceptibly close when across the room. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The TV stand was quite obviously a much darker color. Furthermore, the table’s stain doesn’t even match the chair’s stain! The quality of the construction is quite good, however.
Finally, to top it off, at the nine week mark, I call to see if our coffee table is in and they tell me it is on back order and won’t be available for another six weeks! When I talk to the manager about this, he is apologetic, but only offers to deliver it for free (which we are not interested in at all, because then we have to wait for a three hour window, when we could just as well pick it up.
So, overall, the furniture is nice, but their customer service is quite bad. And worst of all, we are quite unhappy with the stains not matching.

Super happy with this store. We had shopped several places, but ended up buying a bedroom set here. Deric was very helpful and patient, and explained everything very well. We were also very happy with the delivery service. They were HALF the price of most other stores, and the guys that delivered were thorough and neat. They even helped us remove the old bed before they built the new one.

I couldn’t find exactly what I needed but Bill was very helpful. I’d say they are worth checking out and they do match prices.

I’ve never ordered furniture from a company that wasn’t local but I found dining room side chairs that (appeared) to match my dining room table perfectly at a great price. Harriet communicated with me throughout the entire process — sending out a wood block so I could see if the grain and stain matched (it did) and then coordinating purchase and delivery. I couldn’t be more pleased with the chairs — the wood is beautiful and they are solidly constructed. These are «lifetime» pieces of furniture. It was a bit of a wait to get them as they were backordered for some time but I appreciate that Harriet kept checking in from time to time so I never felt that my order had been forgotten. I would definitely consider purchasing from this company again.

Saw their cute commercial and went in to get wall bed for my guest room/​office. HUGE selection of solid wood furniture that can be customized, too many colors to choose from! Leonard was a huge help. They used cgi to create the perfect customized wall system for my space. I chose clean lines and an espresso color. They installed it yesterday just five weeks from order date and it fit perfectly. I now have an executive style office that turns into a guest room when needed!

I really enjoy shopping here! Their staff is very friendly and remembers who you are and what you were shopping for so they can help out on future purchases. I’ve bought numerous bookcases here and just recently a new dresser. Lots of stains and styles to choose from to customize to your tastes. And fabulous solid wood furniture!

On my quest for a new dining room table I went to Furniture In The Raw. Almost instantly I found the piece I was looking for however it was a high top and I couldn’t use it as my chairs were standard height. I was pleasantly surprised when Sales Rep. Deric stated the table could be adjusted for a minor fee. Although I was impressed with the furniture and Deric I told him I’d shop around as I was looking for a bargain. Deric told me if I found a better deal he would meet it as he wanted to earn my business.
Several stores later I did in fact find a better deal. I called Deric who didn’t hesitate to not only meet but BEAT the deal. Once the numbers were finalized I paid $ 100.00 less than what I was initially quoted! Furniture In The Raw’s merchandise is not only beautiful but of high, heirloom, quality. That, plus great customer service and payment plan options has made it my go to furniture store.

Haven’t bought anything here yet, so this is just a browser’s perspective.
I came in here 2 years ago, out of curiosity and I was actually looking for furniture. Everything in there looks like it has fine workmanship, but it can be pricey!!! I mean by the time you buy what you need you still have to stain it, and hope you get what you actually want…
This time 2 years later, I walked in again looking for a dining room table, i was surprised to see some finished furniture. They have some factory finished sets you can order… one more place to put on your list if you are looking for wood furniture.

When i saw looking for a bar for a house they walked my though everything. They stained it to match perfectly. The staff was super and well informed. I highly recommend this place.

Well, the day after I wrote this, we received a call from the manager apologizing profusely for our experience and agreed that waiting TEN DAYS to have furniture delivered was absurd. I was very pleased with how Harriet handled the situation, which leads me to believe that my experience in speaking to someone to arrange the delivery was not the norm. Our pieces were delivered on Saturday and looked gorgeous. We couldn’t be more pleased with our dining table and bookcase. The delivery people forgot the pins for the shelves, but Harriet personally delivered them and apologized yet again (and assured us the individual we dealt with there had been reprimanded)

I found this store on Burnet Rd. near Anderson and what a surprise. After shopping around all day for a bedroom suite any finding nothing but particle board junk it was refreshing to see a place offering all wood furniture. I was quickly greeted and told of their literally countless options. I found exactly what I wanted and their finishing it in a color I chose!
I’ll be stopping here first from now on.
