Shiner Monte Crisco sandwich was the bomb! The fig jelly and the house potato chips were icing on the cake and definitely took it to the next level. Easy to see how this took home the award for the best food truck sandwich in Austin.

The Monte Cristo was good! There are also a few other trucks in that spot so you have a variety to choose from if you’re with other people. But this truck is the best, and the guy who works there give a good rundown of the menu, he’s funny too :)

After reading reviews and hearing about this place online I was super excited to come here and have the Monte Cristo. I have had several of these sandwiches over the years from different places and after hearing all of the hype I had to come here and ended up leaving a little disappointed. The sandwich was good, the service was quick and friendly but I expected to have my socks blown off. I think that I was disappointed because I have eaten this sandwich at different establishments and just had better versions. The batter was light and crisp but lacked the flavor of the shiner that they used to make it. The filling had a nice ratio of meat to cheese and was not over or under stuffed and the bread held up the sandwich well. The jam was a huge disappointment, it was some sort of runny syrup and not a jam it just tasted sweet and the raspberry was just lost. There was non existent powdered sugar covering the sandwich. So was it good yes, amazing no. If I have a hankering for a Monte Cristo again would I go there maybe, they need to up their jam game. Glad that I split it and another sandwich from a different truck otherwise I would have been totally bummed.

Food is awesome. It’s hard to find a good Monte cristo, but these guys make a steller one. Also, the guys that work there are nicer and more knowledgeable about the food than any out there.

The wait was way longer than expected. I understand that everything is better fresh but they are understaffed. It was only the chef and one other worker. I waited almost ONEHOUR for the food and unfortunately it was not even worth the wait. The chef was very personable which is the reason why I had to give an extra star. He explained the items we got and how it was made since it was our first time. Unfortunately only the Texas mesquite turkey sandwich was good. The Reuben had a cole slaw mix that tasted so strange that I had to scrape all of it out of the sandwich. I liked the spiciness, but the cole slaw made me almost toss out the whole entrée. The potato chips were crunchy and good but you may want to sprinkle some salt on it if you like a little kick.

I’ve tried visiting this place a few times whenever I was in Austin but have always been unsuccessful. I finally got to try the famous Monte Cristo and it did not disappoint! It is very filling so don’t expect to be productive the rest of the day. The owner is incredibly friendly and passionate about his food. Will definitely return.

Are you kidding me? This place is my jam and we go here as often as possible. Up until October we lived right by Zilker, so it made it easy to eat here a lot, but now it’s just whenever I’m in the area. Of course everyone loves the Monte Cristo because it’s legit, but have you had the Reuben or the one that chef does every so often with the thick cut pork and pear chutney(I think that’s what he calls it)? This is one of the many places around here that you can go back over and over again and you get treated like a regular. The guys are all cool as hell and they make every single person feel like they’re the only one ordering that day. Definitely one of our top 5 food trucks in town and one of the places we take out of town visitors.

We got the famous Monte Cristo with the daily fresh made cherry fig sauce. The explanation about how the sandwich is made makes it all the more appetizing! The ingredients are very carefully picked out to complement each other. The food truck says the rudest business in austin but the guy is great LOL Its very entertaining seeing them work.

This review is a bit delayed but the southwest reuben was pretty good and very different! I know their Monte Cristo is what won them all of the awards, but my friend John Brotherton smokes their brisket so I had to try that sandwich first. I will be back to try the other once I am through my detox of the new year. The brisket is pecan smoked when I went that week and topped with a very spicy slaw and habanero aioli with chopped up jalapenos. I mean this sandwich isn’t for wussies, I basically guzzled down my sweet tea but was able to finish all of my sandwich! Service is sassy but still nice and I loved how he described the food to us, you can tell that there is a genuine love for the meat there… I mean he has a pig tattooed on one arm and a cow on the other. The awards don’t lie I guess, it was a good experience.

The monte christo was literally the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. It’s almost like a fried dough sandwich, only much better! Each bite was perfect and the dipping sauce was a delightful addition. The homemade chips were delicious too, but I’m going to be dreaming about the monte christo.

The monte cristo is delicious. The staff are the best. I’d definitely go back. The food is fresh and made to order. If you’re in the Austin area I strongly encourage you to add this establishment to your list of eateries.

This place is incredible. I ordered the monte cristo with the cherry fig sauce and oh my god I’m drooling at just the memory of it. All the food was incredibly fresh; the meat was tender and juicy and the outside was crispy while still light. The sweet and smoky taste of the sauce brought out the great flavors of the sandwich and just made it a perfect experience without any missing element. My favorite thing about the whole experience, though, was the commitment of the chef. He came out and told me all about the sandwich and how he was grateful for my purchase. He even has a tattoo of a pig with all the cuts of meat labelled on it which shows his pure dedication. Love love love this truck and it really deserves all the great reviews its received.

So I hate being a follower but after hearing all this hype I had to check this place out. ANDTHEHYPEISWELLDESERVED. I got the Shiner Monte Cristo and it was straight money. I felt like I was at the State Fair eating one of their signature award winning food items. I’m a sucker for comfort food and the Monte Cristo comforted me like Justin Bieber’s new album. Check this place out because you’ll definitely come out full and happy. :3

Alright folks I finally got to this place. My first time and I was ready to see what the squawking was about. The food photos looked appealing and reviews sounded great. I got there after 1 p.m. and the park was beginning to get busy. I had no trouble finding a space, but I noticed a «luxury executive van» arrived after me and about 20 men in suits hopped out. Ready to nosh and give whatever I ordered da biznezz. I got to the window immediately greeted by an enthusiastic man in a chef’s coat. His word for customers is amigo(I heard him greet others the same). Cool enough I thought and listened as je explained the menu and specials. I jumped on the monte cristo and was told 10 minutes. I got my food to go and it came hot and fresh in 10. He explained the cherry fig jam and home made chips. I appreciate them not skimping on the to go containers because my food stayed hot. The monte cristo is as good as advertised. The combination of the ham, turkey and cheese deep fried to a perfect golden crisp… simply delicious. The cherry fig jam on the sandwich is the right marriage of flavor. The house made chips were good and not chalked full of grease(always a plus). The Chef knows what he’s doing because the quality of the food is up there. I’m planning to take my Wife soon and will share with her. Big ups to this place and much success. You will get what you pay for here so try them out.

Holy crap, this is the epitome of food trucking. The Monte Cristo was the by far the best fried item I had during my entire Texas trip. And the jam they serve it with is the perfect balance to cut through that heaviness. As much hype as there is for this sandwich, it still lived up to it! The added bonus of having the guy in the pork apron bring over the sandwich explain all the ingredients just is the cherry on top of the whole experience. Must try in Austin!

Went with my dad here so that he could order his ruben. The writing all over the truck gears you up to be insulted. Dispite they’re big smiles and happy outlook, the will happily get in at least one insut per order. It made me happy. When my mom went up they asked what the hell she wanted, she respond that she wanted them to shut the hell up and feed her. Then they were happy. BTW, my parents say that the food was amazing.

I love that austin has tons of food trailers to chose from, one of the things I love About austin. So on my visit to austin I had to go to the food trailers. I bumped into this one because I was debating what I wanted to eat. I looked at their menu and seemed very appealing. Asked the guy which one was their best selling item and he said the Monte cristo. So I went ahead and tried it. Not disappointed at all ! This sandwich was amazing, super delicious and came with fresh chips made in house and a side of cranberry dip or I think it was to dip your sandwich in. This sandwich was made to order so it took a little longer to get but totally worth it. What impressed me the most was that chef delivers your food and explains what you ordered and how it was made, I thought that was pretty awesome. I thought I was going to share but ended up eating it all by myself it was that good! Will definitely come back when I’m in town again.

A… M…AZZZ…ING!!! omg this thing… this HOLYGRAIL of sandwiches… is delicious! ok maybe im going overboard but it is REALLYEFFINGOOD! First off, it is a food truck! not a sit down but for the summer. why not?! It was $ 10 when we got it. dont know if it was less or will be more later in the future. Its a sandwich that has been cut 4 ways… beer battered with Shiner but lightly, not heavy. The cheese just oozes out ever so slightly… but not like nacho cheese! My first bite… i was WOWed by the light flaky outer part… didnt feel super guilty even though i am, which helps with not being so full off of batter. The various cheeses blends together wit h the ham instead of fighting each other. There is a side of fig & cherry jam used for dipping the sandwiches… which the sandwich is also slightly sprinkled with powder sugar. The jam is more like a sauce, not thick like jam BUT it took the sandwich to a whole ANOTHERLEVEL. Dont overdo it, just a small dab will do so delicious!

Where do I even start this review about Hey… You Gonna Eat or What? There is so much coolness surrounding this little food truck. Ok, here it goes! I had heard about this place since the first time I stepped foot in Austin. It was one of those places that kept popping up in foodie conversations. I’m so glad I finally got to check this place out! Here are the highlights: 1. The food is truly made with love for the craft. When you talk to Chef, either before you order or when he drops the food off at your table, he tells you about each aspect of the sandwich and its purpose like the salty cheese to meld with the smokiness of the ham to enhance the nutty notes of the Shiner Bock beer batter. These sandwiches are not just thrown together, but rather built with a craftiness and a love and appreciation of each ingredient. Chef doesn’t serve food, but rather works of art! 2. Locally sourced food items. I love the idea of using ingredients that are from the community. First, they taste better almost always. Secondly, they are building up our community as well. Yay for tasty food and strengthening the local economy. 3. They serve Mexican sodas like Coca Cola and Fanta. Yum! They also have regular soda and bottled tea. Nice variety. 4. Chef is just awesome. I know he has a Gordon Ramsey persona, but I found him to be a big, cuddly teddy bear. He’s awesome and knows his way around the kitchen. I totally want to be his friend! 5. The Monte Cristo! I love these beautiful sandwiches. I always have since my first bite at age 14 in Solvang, CA at Anderson’s. If you don’t know what one is, it is a ham and turkey cheese sandwich that is battered and fried and served with a sweet jelly or jam. They are unbelievably fantastic and you must try one immediately! Hey…You gonna eat or what’s most famous offering is definitely the Monte Cristo, so I had to order one. This version of the sandwich is definitely a more grown up style. Instead of the traditional French Toast batter, they use a beer batter made with Shiner Bock beer. The beer batter really works and creates another layer of savory-ness to the food. They use really good ham, turkey, and Cheddar, which is evident in each bite. To top it off, they also make their own cherry and fig jelly to put on top. The sandwich also comes out with homemade potato chips. Yum! This is a really, really good Monte Cristo and I recommend it to everyone! 6. You just need to get down here ASAP! I’m a new and loving fan of Hey… You gonna eat or what? I recommend it to everyone and anyone looking for some tasty treats. :)
