InStep the Birkenstock Store

I purchased my Birkenstocks from a different instep location about 2 years ago. For some reason, no matter how often I wore them, they just wouldn’t break in. They really hurt my feet and hindered me wanting to wear them.
Since I moved to the Triangle, I just popped in one day to this Instep location and asked if they could do absolutely anything to make them feel softer/​better. The women were so friendly and really cared about helping me. They took them to the back for a few minutes and worked some magic and voilà! My Birkenstocks feel amazing and I wear them more often now.

This place has everything you need for happy feet. I got Orthopaedic slippers, flip flops, and inserts. It was completely worth the money to be back on the hike and bike trail again.

I’m in a profession that has me on my feet all day and even with mats for support I struggle with lower back issues. I have an incredible chiropractor that changed my life but still need the support to prevent long term health issues.
A friend suggested InStep, the Birkenstock Store because she purchased really stylish and comfortable shoes. I knew what I wanted when I arrived and Dotty was there to assist. She was friendly, knowledgable, and was fast. The right shoe, the right store, and the right sales associate. She even thanked me for shopping «local». At first I thought she was referring to my address related to the store but then I realized she was thanking me for shopping with InStep vs. DSW.
I love my Dansko shoes and can’t wait to return for another pair of Birkenstocks. Dotty has a new client for life!

Love this store! I’ve bought 4 Birkenstocks this year, and the last pair I bought I received a 20 dollar discount though their points system. What a great surprise!
In addition to my Birkenstocks, I’ve bought a pair of chacos that I love too!
Aside from the comfy shoes, the service was awesome. You can definitely tell the workers love their job and love to help you find the shoe that you’re happy with.

I hurt my toe and needed sandals with Velcro, but couldn’t drive all the way up to InStep. Not only did they sit on the phone with me going through which shoes have Velcro, the package arrived on my doorstep the NEXT DAY. Wow!

This place has pretty bad customer service, from my experience. I ordered some shoes from another location two days ago and have been waiting for them for two days. They ordered the wrong shoes so when I went to pick them up I was understandably, disappointed. It wouldn’t have been so bad had they offered me a discount or something not ridiculous, for my troubles. The shoe is now sold out so I was offered popcorn. Um, no.

Okay I’ve been going to InStep through 3 stores! I’m always pleased with their service. Last time I had to pick up a pair I ordered and I was a little early. They had no trouble opening the door a few minutes early so I could pick up my order.
Seem Birkenstock has cut back on my size, which I had been getting for years, but they found a pair!

I have been coming to In-​step for years! This place is local! And it is run by down to earth people who care! High quality product with high quality customer service! This is rare! I love this place! LOVE!!!

I have a very difficult foot with many issues and have difficulty getting a shoe that is cute and feels good on my foot. Instep has such as large selection of styles and sizes and always eager to either help you with an instock shoe or offering to browse the catalogue to see if they can order something in. Their customer service is amazing. They will spend as much time as you need to get something that looks and feels great! Love shopping there!

First, there’s finding the store. It’s crammed into the trendy Triangle area, and there’s nothing to indicate where they are from the Lamar side of the shopping center. I had all but given up when I finally discovered them next to the OfficeMax. They have about 4 parking spaces dedicated to their customers.
If you go to InStep, understand that they specialize in shoes for people with only medium to wide feet. Most of their shoes use European sizing, which is tricky to begin with. They cater to people with wider feet.
I checked out their collection of shoes, and found that NONE of them were available in narrow (shoes, not sandals). Birkenstock makes a narrow version of their sandals, but most offices that require dress clothes don’t think Birks are «office acceptable.»
A sales clerk attempted to persuade me to fill up a shoe with extra padding in the front to make up for the fact that the heel was far too big. The shoes were just under $ 200. Putting padding in the front of the shoe merely made the shoe too tight in the front, and did nothing for the gaping abyss in the heel. (I wear a 7A or 7AA and have a 6A heel.) I found it unprofessional to attempt to sell a shoe that didn’t fit in a store that prides itself on «comfort.» The store owner wasn’t there; he’s a really good pedorthist, but his employees really don’t know what they’re doing in that area.
Unless I need a new pair of Birks, I probably won’t be going back.

I was so happy with my experience at InStep! It’s been years since I have had an experience in a shoe store where the staff is helpful and knowledgable. I ended up with a pair or Birkenstocks and Chacos and I was so happy to give these folks my business. They have an awesome selection, and if they don’t have it in stock, they will order it for you. The customer service was awesome. I highly recommend checking them out.
