Had the classic cheese burger. Took about 8 minutes for food to be ready. The food is worth the money you spend, and it great how you can customize your order. It’s not greasy, and not the best. Great for when you’re on a budget.

I suppose there is no point in writing a review now that Jamrz is closed, but I do want to express to the owners how disappointed I am with the way this business left. I was a regular here, coming up to twice a week, and had a friendly relationship with the owner and her daughter. And I wasn’t the only one– there were quite a few customers that had a fondness for this place. Well, one day in September 2014, I see a «temporarily closed» sign on the door. This coincided with a renovation of the shopping center, so I didn’t think anything of it at first. I came back a week later, and the sign was still there. Tried calling, but there was no answer. Adding to the mystery was the fact that the television hanging in the window was still on. «What happened to Jamrz» became a big topic of conversation, and I found myself stopping by several times a week to see if anything changed. And for months, nothing did. There was always that«temporarily closed» sign in the window, and the TV was still on. Finally, the phone line was disconnected. A «for lease» sign appeared in the window. Adding to the confusion though was a notice in the Community Impact paper stating that while the restaurant had closed, the kitchen was still open for catering. Apparently that never materialized, because everything is gone now. Update(6⁄15): I have received messages from several Unilocalers letting me know that the owner passed and his wife didn’t want to continue the business. This business is sorely missed and I am so sorry for the family’s loss. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

This place has evidently gone out of business. It is not even clear from the business owners themselves when it went out of business or if it is out of business. But it is pretty clear from the for lease sign on the glass in front of the store that the restaurant is out of business. The phone has been disconnected. The Electric sign that shows the hours of operation is unplugged. But it would have been nice if the owners of the restaurant had at least put up a sign saying the situation. I guess they figured they had so few customers that they didn’t care about anyone’s feelings??? This place was fantastic in every way except in the way they chose to shut down. It was the best chili dog and chili burger in the area and it is regrettable that the location was not good enough to sustain regular clientele. Farewell, Jammerz. We hardly knew you.

So. This place closed down. I wish I would have known that before I drove way down there! I was really looking forward to trying this place.

I hate doing bad reviews esp as sweet as the staff here was but I can’t in good faith say this place was worth coming back to. The food was basically all pre-packaged frozen foods that were microwaved, fried and grilled to edible. The food was not specifically flavorful — even their main staple burgers left something to be desired.

Pros: * Good service(blonde woman was very nice) * Good burgers. Also some healthy, veggie options and offer wheat buns. I had a veggie burger that was pretty good. * Nice atmosphere and a cool interior, place has real personality * Very clean * Main root drinks(standard drink knock-offs with less-bad sugar that are arguably better than the stuff they copy) Cons: * Not very green; uses styrophoam cups. * As other folks have noted, fries were heavy. I’d skip those. Other notes: * Not fast food. Took about 15 mins * Has TVs but they just cycle beautiful pictures on a loose rock theme so I can’t dislike that * Breakfast tacos(I don’t know if this is a pro or a con yet, just nice to see) * Kids stuff/options * Has WiFi but not sure if this is exactly a place to hang out and get work done. I did see one laptop setup. While they do deliver, be sure to ask about any additional delivery cost.

Hidden JAMRZ Café is a hidden JEM! I enjoyed eating the off-menu«portobello-on-fire burger» an open grilled marinated portobello with sautéed habaneros, serranos, jalapeños and onions plus the normal hamburger fixings on a wheat bun. JAMRZ has a wide selection of burgers and during the week they make to order excellent breakfast tacos. The beer selection is bare but reasonable with a commitment to grow especially with Austin microbrews. The motif is rock-and-roll slash art coffee shop minus the coffee. The owners are great and I think a really great opportunity if you’re looking for a new place to eat. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the possibilities at JAMRZ and look forward to seeing you here.

The JAMRZ Café has delicious cheeseburgers and curly fries. Their chips and queso is good too. Service is always super friendly and our to-go orders are done in 10 minutes or less. Also, prices are great, super cheap for a great product. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem when you’re in North Austin.

Wow, really happy with my visit to JAMRZ. Many people in my office visit it regularly but I never got around to it. I finally went for the first time the last week and was pleasantly surprised at the selection and service. Everyone needs a place they can go and get good quality food quickly. JAMRZ is certailny the place for this. Prices are very reasonable. They offer excellent breakfast tacos. And for lunch they have your typical café type items(hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, french fries, etc) Cool atmosphere. Kind of a depressing location in the old HEB shopping plaza, a bit of a ghost town there now. That doesn’t detract from JAMRZ though, inside is very friendly and clean. Will be back again.

I finally gave in to temptation to make my trip to the gym worthless by going to this place across the street afterwards. They really shouldn’t be allowed to have a hamburger and pizza place right across the street from a gym. The place was pretty empty when I went in. Only one guy sitting outside eating a burger. The three people working that evening were extremely friendly and helpful. They recommended the grilled chicken burger with the guacamole and pico.(Which they seem to do frequently according to other reviews.) I made it a combo with sweet potato fries. I waited around while they made my order. One woman was cleaning the place and started chatting away with me. I do have to say that the place was really clean and she was getting all up underneath the booths. The color of the place(as another reviewer noted) is quite dark. They probably should have gone lighter… but luckily that doesn’t change the taste of my food. Plus, I was taking it to go anyways. They do have the awesome soda machine with root soda.(I think that is what it was called.) Whatever it was called, it was yummy and I loved that all but two of them were caffeine free. Now…to the burger… it was pretty tasty. I usually like my chicken burgers to have some spice or sweetness. This had neither but was still full of flavor. They did have a fire burger on the menu but it was really spicy according to the staff. A calmer version would be a nice option. I also agree with Grant that the fries were a bit soggy. Some pieces had crunch, but most did not. Fix this… and I think they are a total five stars.

This is a mixed three star rating. It’s smack in the middle because they could get better or they could get worse just by staying the same. Let me explain. The food is good for the most part, but what isn’t good really isn’t good. The fresh cut fries sound like a winner, but they are consistently soggy. This happens when fries are cooked at too low a temperature. This is basic technique 101 for a restraunt operator, and there is really no excuse for it. So those get one star. The curly fries and onion rings, while they are probably previously frozen, are actually really good. So they get four stars for those. I don’t think the patties are fresh, but they are cooked properly and the variety of burgers they offer are really good. They have delicious whole wheat buns and even gluten-free options. The staff is friendly and accomodating. Five stars for hospitality. The name change that just… won’t…die. They have been saying forever that the name is changing to the unfortunate Jammrz or Jamerz or Jamrz Café or something like that. The conceit is that it’s supposed to be a Rock and Roll themed restarurant. But I don’t think anyone has«Jamm’d» in a non-ironic way since hair metal died. And the interior of the place is this weird, depressing burgundy. Environment matters — it effects how customers react to the food and the business. I go back, but each time I have to psych myself up to deal with that color and the weird metal flowers permanently affixed to some of the tables. Yikes. Some paint and some elbow grease would make a big, big difference. I get that the place has changed hands. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they needed to change the name due to some contractual obligation. But«Jamrz»? Really? So it could be worse, but I hope it’s heading in the other direction. It’s great to see people taking on a venture like this and wanting them to succeed. It’s a real under dog thing. And again, the food isn’t bad.

It is rare that i leave a hamburger unfinished. I ate half my burger and was later unhappy to have had even that. It left an unpleasant mystery aftertaste in my mouth for hours after. Sidenote. Flyers on the tables informed us they are transforming into a place called«Jamrz» which will undoubtedly lead to great disappointment when patrons check out the new place and discover it is, in fact, NOT a strip club.

I ate here originally a year ago and really enjoyed it. I went this past weekend and learned that In The Buns changed owners and burger recipes. It will be called Jammrz Café soon serving breakfast tacos, burgers, etc. The old burgers used to be stuffed and delicious. The new burgers are no better than I could make at home on the stove. It left a lot to be desired and I can’t imagine this place staying open long without a significant improvement in the cooking.

I have been back many times and continue to enjoy the burgers and fries. The last time I was here, I found David and Rick have sold the place. I ordered my usual turkey burger and sweet potato fires. The burger was alright but could have used some seasoning. The Sweet potato fries were soo disappointing. Soggy and no seasoning at all. Don’t they know don’t mess with my seasonings.

Errol M. said it perfectly: too large buns, superb Maine Root soda, and the $ 8.50 combo is a good deal. As Bailey B. stated,“I liked the way the cheese oozed out of the meat”. My rating is in between them both, at 3.5 stars. The lady who helped us was extremely helpful and friendly. Stellar customer service! The décor was a bit stark, but I think that is changing because there is a new owner. My hubby’s regular fries were really good, my sweet potato were ok… some were done, some not done enough. The burger was pretty good, except for the extra large bun. Another good thing is they have a frequent flyer card, where you get the FIFTH combo meal on them! That is amazing, usually it’s at least ten visits before you get a freebie. I would definitely come back and try In the Buns again. I am looking forward to trying the curly fries.

My last visit found a couple buddies and I stepping up to the Fire Burger challenge. My heart and brain tell me I had a great time… other undisclosed anatomical locations will likely disagree. Fire Burger: /f()r//brgr/ A series of two ground beef patties, concealing a variety of chile peppers. Chile peppers include equal amounts of serrano chiles, pequin chile, and habanero chiles, in addition to 3 whole ghost chiles, all of which have been cooked in chile oil. Warning! Cooking this burger will create a plume of toxic fumes which have been known to induce coughing, SOB, sneezing, and tearing eyes. Any staff in the vicinity will suffer the consequences, as will any innocent patrons. Fire Burger Challange: /CHalinj/ Consume above burger completely, within three minutes, without the aid of condiments, sides, or beverage. Also on the plate is an entire grilled jalapeño. Once the three minute mark has passed and successful consumption has occurred, the victim must wait two minutes before consuming any cooling aids. Upon arrival, I informed David(the cool ass owner) that there would be a handful of us taking on the challenge. He and his staff were delighted that there would be multiple challenges at once. Spectators filed in to watch the mayhem. Once the Fire Burgers were ordered, pepper fumes permeated the air, throwing spectators, staff, and innocent patrons into coughing and sneezing fits. At last, the time had come. David and his staff presented us with the Fire Burgers. His delightfully beautiful cashier had the video camera ready. David reiterated the rules of engagement. Ready…set…eat! First bite. Mmmm… smoky, sweet, well seasoned beef on toasted bun. I feel the heat a little. Second bite. I notice the meat to bun ratio that many had complained about in the past had been corrected. Perfect meat to bun ratio. The heat grows a little more. My challengers already dripping with sweat, I remain dry and do not falter. Half the burger gone. I’m in a zone. The burger is hot, but flavorful. My challengers are sweating profusely. I remain sweat free. Comments from the crowd include…“it’s not even phasing him” and«he hasn’t even broken a sweat» Last few bites. Less than a minute remaining. I make quick work of the burger. Moving my attention to the grilled jalapeño with only 20 seconds remaining, I bite into it… only to release hot juices(temperature, not spicy). One bite… two bites… gone. I finish the challenge with a mere few seconds to spare. One of my sweat drenched challengers has also finished. The other just barely missing the mark. Two minutes of waiting. I feel fine. The residual heat fades quickly. Once the two minutes are up, cheers and applause. Our pictures are taken. David congratulates us and rewards us with t-shirts. Free swag… sweet! Veni, vidi, vici! As I sit here, the morning after, I feel a slight warmth in my belly and a song in my heart. I am surprisingly famished and am looking ahead to the next challenge. PS…the sweet potato fries rule!

I have been twice now, and like some other Unilocalers, I had some issues finding the place. A small black and white tarp barely announces its presence. In true investigatory fashion, I went to the liquor store nearby and asked the employee if they knew of the new burger place in the area. In return I get a funny look and am informed it is two storefronts down. First off I LOVE the bat mural the placards the walls and the very cool flower/silverware table art. It does not try to disguise the fact it is in a strip mall, and why go through the trouble. It is a burger joint not a steakhouse. The concept is not new but you will have to excuse the excitement of us North Austin/Cedar Park/Round Rock folk. We don’t have all the intriguing options provided in Central/DT/South Austin. The concept of pick your bun, pick your patty choose your toppings. My first shot at In The Buns included a veggie burger with a gluten free bun. That’s right, not even cheese… boring right?! Needless to say I was not smitten with my burger. Not so much for the burger but the bun was a crumbly mess. My second visit however was a winner! I had the tilapia patty(really a fillet, grilled), slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle sauce on a whole wheat bun. I loved it! I got Jesse a bacon cheese burger on a whole wheat bun. The bacon was not wonderful but the burger itself was OK. I found the fries and onion rings to be above average but not spectacular. What is great about this place is that it meets nearly any ones dietary needs be it low fat, low calorie, gluten free, vegetarian and for the double the meat sort of appetite. Another plus, they are currently selling Holy Cacao’s cake balls!

In the Buns went straight to my buns, but it was well worth it. A very casual restaurant with some photography from local artists, a music mural painted on the walls… I’m thinking I’m somewhere in S. Austin… and then big flat-screen TVs remind me again that I’m in the burbs. I love the customizable menu. Choose the style of burger, the type of bun and meat. Choose your fries – curly, sweet potato, or cheese fries. I typically hate grilled chicken at hamburger joints so I decided to put this place to the test. Using my power of choice, I decided upon a bacon bleu cheese with grilled chicken on a wheat bun. I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken worked quite well. The chipotle sauce, bleu cheese, thick –sliced bacon went superbly with the toasted bun. The chicken helped to balance the fattiness of the bacon and cheese. The potato fries are nicely fried and delicious. A big plus – they have natural cane sugar sodas from Maine Root. No HFCS so I feel a lot less guilty indulging my kids. LOVE all the sodas!

Yes indeed a new burger place in way North Austin, I found myself in the area and remembered Daniel J’s great review so I searched for it on HWY183. I missed it on first pass because it does not face the highway. It is located near the HEB area in a small strip center. This is the first place I have seen a chain link fence separating the cook area form the seating area, but that is OK it gives it a unique style. Today I ordered the classic burger with the standard cheddar inside the burger itself. I added mayo instead of mustard. I did not order fries. I took a table and waited. Nice setup, nice place, good service, since I was there around 3pm I didn’t have to wait long for the burger. The nice young lady behind the counter brought the burger to my table, and the burger really looks good! I dug in, yep this is a great burger, I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was, wow most of the time I only get them well done. The ooze was there and it was a dripping, I love the ooze, and all the lettuce, tomatoes and raw onion mixed well with the toasted white bun.(You do have other bun choices.) It was so good I thought about ordering another but I didn’t. I also got a drink, I chose the Dublin Dr. Pepper, I think the syrup was low because it had a little too much carbon taste in it but I still drank it. Would I go back? Yes I will and soon and order another burger; I may even try the fries. If you don’t know I hate almost everybody’s fries, I guess because I just like fries in general. So theirs maybe great I don’t know.

I went here with my Meetup Group and it has the most Wonderful food, great Austin vibe in there and the owner was nice, outgoing and allowed us to pull tables together to accommodate our group. I highly recommend this place and will return. They have 3 large plasma TV’s — very trendy — owner supports local artists. They serve real sugar sodas — no high fructose corn syrup — so delicious! They even serve Dublin Dr. Pepper! I got the Frito Pie Burger with a side of Seasoned Curly fries.
