Escaped with the family and stayed at a house by the lake travis shore! I highly recommend renting one for a weekend get away. We also got a pontoon for a couple of hrs and explored the whole lake

Lake Travis is just about my favorite place in the whole world. When I’m here I feel like I’ve escaped from the pace and worries of everyday life. From watching the sunset to floating in the water and drinking beer I can never think of a better way to spend the day. If you like to party like a rock star you can go to devils cove and park with tons of other boaters out looking to party like crazy animals. Its sometimes crowded at the cover but its always very wild. If you want a quiet day of floating and swimming Arkansas Bend is always fun for chillin and relaxing. Float away your troubles and drink more beer than you should and just bask in the glory of the lake. If you feel like some insane cliff diving then a quick dash over to Pace Bend to jump off pale face might be in store. That is if you can work up the courage to the leap off this insanely high cliff. No matter how you like your lake experience Lake Travis has it all. from shots and food at the Gnarly Gar to relaxing in an abandoned cove I cant say enough good things about Lake Travis.

The glory days have returned to Lake Travis! Gone are the endless winding drives to get to a parking spot close enough to a dock, the unsightly expanses of white rock, the dangling cliff-side staircases that ended in a drop to the bottom like a horror movie. However much rain we got — 20 feet? 40 feet? — is enough to bring you up to a level where there can be more than 3 boats on the water without it feeling like you’re ass to elbows with a Kid Rock blasting bro-boat. Though the waters are a litttttle bit warm and apparently teeming with some extra bacteria now, I’d still swim in it. And did. This weekend. My eyes may be burning and potentially diseased but it was all worth it.

Even though the lake is still low, the water level did visibly rise last year and hopefully will continue to do so in 2015(as I type, it’s raining and has been non-stop for the last 19 hours so, yay!). Embarking in a nice weekend sail, enjoying a little catch and release, taking a dip on a warm day, or even making the short trek to Hippie Hollow to get much closer to nature(wink; the locals know) are reasons enough to have a deep appreciation for Lake Travis. There are also several options for lake front dining that add to the attraction; there is even a craft brewery now that overlooks Lake Travis! The Western sunsets are stunning year round. And the people… people who live in the area just seem a little bit more laid back, friendly, and a have their own smallish culture so-to-speak. I guess it comes with the territory — both literally and figuratively. ;) Hanging out on/around the lake is kind of like being on a mini vaca every day. Lake Travis is not only a great place to come and play, but also a great place to stay. When relocating to Austin, my husband and I looked Central, North, South, West, and East when trying to decide where to buy our new home. At first we were really leaning towards someplace more central, but the more we spent time in the Hill Country and on Lake Travis and looked at the many homes that feature Spanish Mediterranean architecture, complete with tons of palm trees and all, we came to the conclusion that we were«lake people» and the beauty far outweighed distance from DT. After all, it’s only a 20 – 25 minute drive(without the famous Austin traffic, of course) when we choose to visit a specific restaurant, attend an event, or go all out rock star style(we just get a hotel room). The only downside(if you can call it that) is in the spring and summer when all the«terrorists»(aka tourists) invade all of the Lake resorts, B&Bs, and area hotels and the«traffic» gets worse. But hey, just like the thousands that visit DT for SXSW and ACL annually, we get the chance to meet some interesting people from all over — albeit they are most likely a little bit more«acoustic» than«EDM.» :-)

The beauty of nature providing us with beautiful views located just outside the city. I personally love this area and so does my camera. You can take in these views from many points around the area and I hope everyone takes a minute to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to come up and truly appreciate the beauty that we are surrounded by. For me it’s a place where I can let my stresses slide away and just take it all in. It’s free therapy! Come up and enjoy the beauty, the views and the quiet peacefulness of what the nature of Austin has to offer! There is also plenty of recreational opportunities, great restaurants, neat shops and friendly people!

The lake receded a great deal last year. I was really shocked. Still took a dip in the lake and got stuck in the mud! Had fun with my family! Restrooms are very basic and a little stinky.
