I’d say this place is exactly 3 stars: A-ok. My friend and I came here for lunch and got a pair of shrimp poboys, which I guess I just wasn’t feeling. The shrimp was battered well, but the bread was a bit too thick in ratio with the shrimp, and the fries were quite lacking in flavor. Quite frankly, the poboys were some of the cheapest things on the menu, and it seemed rather out of my range to pay $ 8 for trailer gumbo(I think that’s just me, plus I wanted a shrimp poboy). Compliments to the guy that works there – he’s very friendly and super nice, but as for the food, I’d say maybe I need to try something else next time.

Great food! We went there for lunch, and I had crawfish étouffée which was wonderful and my husband had the crawfish tacos and the catfish poboy which were both great. Lee, the owner, is very friendly.

I walked to Lee’s for lunch yesterday. It’s Christmas break, so they didn’t have much on the menu(because the college kids were gone, and that’s their customer base). They did have shrimp tacos, and they were great – just enough tangy to go with the big ‘ol shrimp. Wish they’d had crawfish. I’ll have to try them again when school’s in to try more stuff. It was funny to listen to the owner/cook/somebody talk about how he’d met Fred Schneider there(of B-52s fame). The folks working there were really nice too. Only in Texas can you walk to lunch on a sunny day in December and want to sit in the shade.

First of all, the 2 stars only means that I’ve had better cajun food. I’ve tried the etouffe and it was pretty bland. More of a sauce than anything else, it featured very little other than the yellow-y, goopy sauce itself. There were a few tails or shrimp in there to be sure, but nothing to make a special trip for. Service was nice and friendly. It’s a bit pricey with everything around the $ 9 range. With a drink, it’s going to be over $ 10, so I’m not the $ rating for the place is accurate. Should be $$. It’s a trailer, after all, so restaurant prices seem a little out of place. Overall, it’s good enough just not as authentic or tasty as I’d hoped for.

Lee’s still my favorite restaurant owner that I’ve met in town, friendly cordial guy who seems to remember all his customers. I wish he put up his official menu somewhere(I can’t find it on the Facebook) cause I was excited for alligator, but came a week too early. Ah well. Groupon Now features them from time to time if you’re looking for a cheap bite just fyi($ 4 for $ 8). Last time I got the cajun catfish and loved it a ton, so I a piece of it on the side. Got a roast beef pistolette this time because I was curious as to what it was, and it was the daily special. My friend got some catfish and a crawfish taco. Well, to say my friend was overwhelmed with the taco is the tip of the iceburg. He exclaimed it to be «Devastating,» a term coined within my circle of friends for all but the very best of what we’ve ever had. I have to agree it was awesome. I had to carry my food back to my apartment cause Lee cooks everything fresh on the spot, but the wait was too long for me. My fries came a little soggy, but were still seanoned well when I got back home. Catfish had that nice kick, but you could still taste the freshness of the fish. The pistolette was interesting to me: think open faced roast beef sandwich topped with fries and gravy on a unique Louisiana bun with some melted provolone. I tried each component separately and was not impressed. However when I took a forkful out of the middle, it was an eye opening experience to see the sum of each component explode into an orchestral symphony of flavor. Was not expecting that at all for a sandwich. Do come try it; I vouch it as one of the best seafood options in ATX and definitely the most affordable.

I grew up in South Mississippi about an hour from New Orleans, so I’ve eaten my share of Cajun food. I’ve really been missing it here. I“m glad to find Lee’s. The fried catfish is by far the best I’ve had in Austin, and better even than some I had back home. The hushpuppies and fries didn’t disappoint either. The crawfish étouffée was slighlty underseasoned and not spicy at all, but decent. I’d probably order it again. It comes with a nice fried roll the likes of which I’ve only ever been served before deep in the heart of Louisiana. The roast beef pistolette that my husband ordered was tasty as well with a delicious brown gravy but perhaps too much cheese(hard to believe, I know). There’s free parking and ample COVERED seating! On Monday nights, he shows football on a flatscreen tv in the seating area. Finally, Lee is just a really nice guy who wants to please his customers.

I am gonna sit sort of middle of the line and offer a 3 instead of the unfiltered reviews of 5 and 1. If you take a step back and look at the reviews, you will notice that a good number of the reviewers have no more than 5 – 10 reviews. Perhaps this joint will build a little more clout down the road. I went with a little bit of everything, and they seem to offer some fairly unique offerings. My food knowledge is pretty expansive, but a pistolette? Sounds like some kind of French firearm! It is actually defined(via Wiki) as a stuffed, fried breadroll. They stuff these suckers with plenty of delicious goodies here: gumbo, étouffée, and the like. The fellas running this Cajun-centered mobile eatery are awesome. They really make sure that you are happy with your slightly-French-noted fare. People enjoyed their gut-stuffing orders, and I was pretty pleased with mine. Although the majority of the products are crafted by hand, I honestly think that the food is a touch overpriced. $ 9 for an order of gumbo. Smaller portions here, but solid quality! The hushpuppies were $ 0.50 a pop, but the price did not justify anything. They were slightly dense and perhaps a little overfried as well. The red beans and rice was somewhat one-noted; it just had a very smoky, spicy flavor without much depth. I would have preferred a little more… savory kick. The best thing? Surprisingly, the housemade potato salad stood above my other choices. The combination of tart capers, rough potato skins, and chunks of celery really did a number for the often bland, mustardy concoction of tuber-based starch. Check out Lee’s if you are hankerin’ for some Cajun trailer food. The people are cool, and the food is pretty good. Expensive, but fairly satisfying. Perhaps I will return to try give some other items a shot. These guys know how to attract customers! Plus, they are situated right next to a veggie eatery… Yikes.

Honestly a MUSTEAT! Lee’s has a great atmosphere(BYOB) and AMAZING food! All of Lee’s dishes have tradition at heart, and taste as good as any Cajun food should! Just start talking to Lee and you immediately know his passion for the food. I’ve been there a number of times now and have tried various menu items… Crawfish Ettouffe, Catfish, Catfish Po Boy’s, CRAWFISHTACOS, and of course the Gumbo!!! ALL Excellent! Just everything is good! I’m a Huge Fan of the Crawfish Tacos! I’ve never left hungry that’s for sure!

Lee’s food only continues to get better. Still have yet to have a bad meal here. Pistolettes(or cajun pistols as I know them), Catfish Sliders, Blackened Shrimp or Fried Crawfish Tacos, Cajun catfish, and a damn good burger… All have been incredibly fresh, made from scratch, and delicious. Also, DON’T forget the breakfast tacos and burritos. The tacos are huge, and quite possibly the best I’ve had in the UT area, if not Austin. A+ for Lee’s. I’ll be coming back on the regular for sure.

Really good and freshly prepared Cajun comfort food at reasonable prices. The catfish is from a farm in south Texas — no imported anything. The gumbo is the dark roux with generous amounts of the good stuff. The owner, Lee, is very attentive to your cullinary wishes. He even makes a killer cheeseburger with fries and drink for $ 6. There’s nothing like it in the UT/Downtown area. Free parking right next to the trailer. Go for it!

Everything I’ve ever had here has been 100% awesome. Catfish? Awesome. Cajun-fried catfish? Even more awesome. Catfish sliders? Tiny, awesome sandwiches. He even manages to have the best burger I’ve had since moving to Austin. Lee is chill as hell and I look forward to coming here every week. Sometimes I end up hanging around for nearly an hour, just shooting the breeze. This is basically my favorite place to go to lunch.

Met the owner Lee and have to say he might just be the nicest and most genuine guy ever. It’s worth a trip to his fun food trailer just to say hello. We ordered the gumbo(which texas monthly raved about) and were slightly disappointed. It was good but not the best. Either way the owner was so nice that it breaks my heart to give less than 5 stars!

What a GREAT shrimp po-boy! Just might be the best in Austin! Lee & Pete were attentive and made sure everything was good. I will definitely be back. It’s great to eat at small establishments where you can meet the owner! You guys ROCK!

I’m vegetarian so can’t eat a lot of the food here. But, what I’ve had has been amazing. The hushpuppies and cajun fries are spiced to perfection, and the mint tea(with fresh mint leaves!) is to die for! Try to go when they have the hurricane stix on special. I got mine without the shrimp and they were still awesome. Also, the ingredients are mostly locally sourced. Sit in the shade, BYOB, and eat some of the best Cajun food in Austin!

I love the shrimp po-boys and seafood gumbo! More seafood in this gumbo than anywhere in Austin… there’s shrimp, crawfish and crab legs too! Plenty of shade and always a nice breeze to keep you cool on these hot summer days. Lee is a great guy, and he always treats you right!

Lee himself is one of the coolest guys we weren’t even eating at his trailer(for some odd reason) and he recognized us and had us come over just to hang out and bullshit. That being said lee’ is the best cajan food place, restaurant or trailer I ve had in Austin. I highly recommend Thursday’s crawfish sandwiches and the gumbo. Lees is also on private land so while he doesn’t sell beer you can bring your own

I don’t know much anything about Cajun food, but I know what delicious tastes like. The Cajun fried catfish was pretty amazing. I think I paid $ 7 for three big pieces of fish, fries and hush puppies and a drink. That’s a lot of fried food, sure, but c’mon, you want it. Friendly, delicious and reasonably priced and also across the street from my office. I also sampled the gumbo and that was great too.
