I’m dropping a star, not by any fault of Lupe’s own, but because it is just such a freakin’ inconvenience and, well, it sucks. The wait time is just horrendous. We recently visited at 6 pm on a Wednesday. Waited over an hour. Please, Lupe, try to set up a system that allows reservations. It just sucks. Or maybe — to Lupe Corporate — open another Austin location! BUTTHECRABAVOCADOENCHILADASAREDELICIOUSTHEEND

While the food was decent, I didn’t find it anything incredibly special. ESPECIALLY in light of the fact we waited almost an hour and a half for a table. We were a party of 11 and told the hostess we would be glad to be split up, if it meant we could seat faster. We watched table after table be seated, including 2 people sat at a 6 top. All of this happened while the executive partner was running around, looking very official. It was just ridiculous. Your food can be great, but if your service(which includes not just the servers) stinks, people won’t be back.

Seriously, I love this place! My boyfriend and I always sit at the bar because we love the service that Michael, Bobby and Eliza provide. They are the best bartenders I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. The fajita plate is the best and they have all kinds of delicious drinks. I always get the grand gold, that’s my fave. It does get pretty busy sometimes so that’s why we sit at the bar. We get there around 7 when it starts to slow down. If you like Mexican food I recommend this place!

I have no hesitation stating that this restaurant has, in my opinion, the best beef fajitas, tortillas, and queso flameado in Austin, Texas. The prices reflect the quality and excellence of the food, however, are in-line with what you receive. Try splitting an order of queso flameado and sausage with a party of four or more. Hand rip tortillas into small, manageable pieces to wrap the queso flameado with then dig in. You will love it. As stated above, the beef fajitas, tortillas and queso flameado are the best in town. The chicken fajitas are so-so, however. The service is excellent. The beer is cold. And I will be back.

The fajitas are pretty spectacular. The service is touch and go so we usually order take out.

Actually it’s a 3.5 star Love the fajitas — steak, chicken, and veggies — tried all of them. I’ve held company events there and they have this party pack, cheese enchiladas and all you can eat chicken and beef fajitas and queso. So convenient! The service is awesome, but… I’ve been there at off hours ~ 3:00pm during the week and the service is soooooooooo slooow. There was hardly anyone there. I know it’s skeleton crew, but it took 20 minutes for a ice tea!!! Then another 30 minutes for food… we were finished with our food and waited another 20 minutes for the waitress. All together it was almost a 2 hour lunch.

I’m giving this place three stars. The food was OK but not great. The service was absolutely horrendous. We were seated. What seemed like an eternity later the waiter came by to get our drink order. He left and then we didn’t see him again for quite a while. We wondered if he forgot about our drinks. Curiously enough, everyone kept asking if it was our first time there. They did this so they could bring out samples of the beef fajita, which were delicious, but mandating that all your new customers taste the beef before they order is just crazy. At lunch time when it’s busy, you should be more concerned with delivery of drinks and food and not whether the newbies have had a chance to taste the beef. I honestly felt like I waited and waited and then was mostly dissapointed. Everyone at our table got exactly one glass to drink and all of them sat empty for the last 60% of the experience. I DO want to come back and order the beef fajitas. I HOPE we get better service.

Oh Lupe, what happened?! I’ve been here twice before but I had forgotten to post a review. Both times would have been 5 stars, and both times I had fajitas. But today I decided to try something on the lower priced side of the menu and boy oh boy I was like«is this real life?» Sat down, wait staff was nice and prompt, chips n salsa served quickly. And I distinctly remember your chips, salsa and charro beans being awesome before but today the charro beans were bland as can be. I ended up just enjoying the pico salsa which was good n fresh. Ordered the«big sucker» burrito. I had the choice of getting«fajita» chicken or beef but I was curious to try it as is with the ground beef and«taco salad» on the side. When it came out I was expecting a big sucker of a burrito but it was a normal sized one. It was covered with cheese and had 3 jalapeño slices on it. Rice n refried beans on the side. The taco salad was just two separate piles of diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Nothing salad about that side at all… I almost wanted to order some plain tacos to go with that. So I took a bite of the burrito and it wasn’t bad but it lacked flavor. It was bland. The beef was barely seasoned, the beans were bland and I could only taste tortilla, bland beef n cheese. But I pressed on and tried to finish it but it was just so plain and meh compared to their premium items on the menu. In my opinion every item should strive to meet the quality of other premium items on the menu(fajitas, tacos, etc.) I know how great their other dishes are so when I was done with this I was just disappointed. With a name like«big sucker» burrito you gotta come out with guns blazing because Chipotle and cheap taqueria places have you beat with a lower price and a truly bigger burrito. And those guys are more fast foodish than restaurant style! You can’t let them out do you in the burrito dept. Now granted the restaurant and scenery are nice and the atmosphere adds a lot to the dining experience but when paired with how this dish was prepared and served it just took me out of the mood. I could have asked for something else but it was already late and I was getting full. I was just let down overall. Start with reinventing your burrito. Make sure the consistency of the ground beef is seasoned to perfection by your cooks, use different fillings that make it pop and burst with flavors, garnish it different cheeses and peppers. Add sides like sour cream, shredded cheese or guac. Cut it in half n split it to show off the fillings! Details go a long way. Make it a burrito that is pleasing to the palette and to the eyes. Make it something your customers will remember and come back for it again. Make the side salad an actual salad. Not just a pile of lettuce next to diced tomatoes. You guys rock at fajitas. Just apply the same love and pride to everything else on the menu and you’ll be set. Your servers are great, and restaurant atmosphere is always nice… Just don’t forget about the little guys on your menu. You don’t wanna be known for just great fajitas I’ll be back to try a few other items off the menu. I know you guys are capable of greatness, and I hope it shines through when I stop by again. Til then, cheers and much success to you!

First time visiting this place on St. Patrick’s Day and I have a mixed review. My companion and I were seated very quickly, but we were there early(6-ish). The hostess pointed out the table tent for Blood Orange Margaritas and also said that we were there on time for happy hour. Yay! Our waiter came by and also mentioned the Blood Orange Margaritas and happy hour, so we each ordered one. Our waiter was older, nice and jovial. He made recommendations, which we took. The service was efficient, but not from our waiter. He was a bit harried and never actually delivered any of our food or drinks – other wait staff did. We didn’t mind much since things were prompt. However, we were served our fajitas and had to wait a full 5 minutes to gain someone’s attention that we didn’t have any plates and we wanted another margarita. We also ran pretty low on chips and salsa while waiting for our meal. We got more of both – after our main course arrived(without plates!). My companion’s 2nd margarita arrived after we were completely finished with our meal, so he felt the need to suck it down quickly as he thought I was waiting on him to finish. We were offered dessert and declined and were given our bill and paid it without really looking at it. After we left, we realized that we were not given happy hour prices or any discount at all for our first two margaritas that were ordered well within happy hour. I’m not sure if this was a bait and switch tactic by the waiter and hostess(both pointed out the specialty drink and mentioned it was happy hour in same sentence); so we assumed that we would get our first round of drinks at the happy hour price. WRONG! Full price for all three damn expensive Blood Orange Margaritas. The three drinks cost more than our meal by 1⁄3. We were either royally duped by the slick staff or they forgot to give us happy hour prices on the first round. Either way we feel cheated and will probably not be back. About those drinks… They were fine. Not great, not terrible, but pretty good. Same with the food. The steak in our fajitas was really tender. It was typical Austin Tex Mex. Tasty but not extraordinary. OH, the name of the place… I had to look it up to write this review because I had no idea what it was called. Their tag line, «Es Preety Good» is prominently featured all over the place, but the name, not so much.

Nothing weird about this place, the décor typical Tex-Mex, very eager to please staff, management trying hard to keep the front end flowing. The food was average needs a bit less salt and more spice. The beans had a hint of burn to them so that mean they were overcooked. We had a table side avocado guacamole and that was very good. Lobster tacos were ok but instead of lettuce they should have made a slaw, it’s lobster it needed a wow addition instead it was lobster hidden in lettuce and a puffy taco shell. I rated this place place a 3 for great staff thanks Greg and new waiter Jacob for providing my family with great service, the backend of the house and the menu need to pick it up, the alcohol and slushy drinks will only do so much. Make it weird make it weird.

Return visit. On the whole pretty good. A few bumps this trip… On the whole pretty dang good. Be careful with the waiting and texting thing lol. We had a 5 minute wait, gave the hostess our phone number. We received a text acknowledging our wait but nothing indicated to reply… nothing. so after 20 minutes I asked the hostess for another wait time, turned out our names were taken off because we never replied to a text that gave no indication to do so. But given my initial visit, I just accepted it as .it happens kind of thing. The waiter was nice and I have no real complaints. My husband ordered the shrimp fajitas. Delicious. Fresh. Good quality. And of course all the fixings were high quality. Homemade tortillas, fresh guacamole, lots of shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream and such. Something in those beans… they are soo good. Smokey, fresh, creamy, just yummy. And these are just the beans. . My daughter got the crispy shrimp with chorizo. For the price I would think at least a few more shrimp is called for lol. She loved them. Again, fresh and high quality. Lots of cheese on them with. Crispy smokey bacon and spicy chorizo. I got a combo tex mex plate. The verde sauce is really good, one of the best I’ve had in Austin. Tangy and vibrant. The cheese enchilada had white cheese as I prefer and the chicken enchilada was tender and scrumptious. The chalupa was loaded. The ground beef was good but nothing to write home about… but good all the same. They don’t spare on the fixings for sure. The Margarita on the rocks is watered down and the bartender was not welcoming. He did get upset after bringing my husband a Margarita on the rocks and he asked the bar tender to take it back to bring a frozen one instead. Well… he never did actually ask my husband which one he preferred when we ordered. And then the tres Leches… this was the disappointment I suppose. The cake was stale maybe? Not sure, it just didn’t taste that great and had an odd texture. I’ve had better. So now that I write this review I realize this visit knocked it down a star to 4 stars. Don’t get me wrong, we will be back. We like it here. Just wasn’t as good a trip as our first. Customer service is so essential

I’ve been back several times now to Lupe Tortilla and have been impressed every time. No complaints whatsoever. Also, I like the chicken fajitas way more than the beef they like to talk about. ;) I’ve always been happy with the waitstaff too. Super attentive and on top of things AND friendly. Food comes quick, comes hot, and comes delicious, so go and arrive hungry.

Came here with a friend. We were looking over the menu and our server comes by and says«as you can see things here are pretty pricy» Starts saying how he recommends appitizers or splitting a dish. What kind of BS is that… I just don’t get it. We go on to order. We both order drinks. Its about 11 on Sunday. He says we cant order a drink unless we get an appetizer. I’ve never heard of anything as stupid as this. Whatever I’m annoyed at this point, we go along with it. I ask for no salt on my Rita, it comes with salt. It takes a while to get his attention to send it back. Service was slow all around. The food was just ok. The salsa was good. Our waiter really tried to be nice but just said off things. He seemed new and oddly nervous. I wasn’t impressed with the service or food and won’t be back.

Complimentary chips, salsa and charro beans at dine-in. Here’s what we ordered: ½ lb of their«World Famous Lime pepper marinated» beef fajitas — meat was tender, but the lime taste was way too strong/overwhelming. Queso Flameado Melted Jack cheese, chorizo, jalapeño sausage or carne molida — when I order queso I am assuming it’s for dipping, but this came with what seem like melted pepperjack cheese sticks and 1 red pepper with slices of spicy sausage. Greasy. good, but still disappointed that it was not for dipping with my chips. Instead, you pull it apart and eat it w/the tortillas. I do admit, their flour tortillas were delish! They have the thin crispy chips(which is good), but our 2nd batch came out stale/thicker. Overall, service was excellent. Food was okay.

I wanted to like Lupe Tortilla more. If this review was based solely on what I ordered, it would have an extra star. The good: — Decent number of veg options. I ordered the mushroom & poblano quesadilla, which I thought was solid — it is certainly best when fresh though because the corn tortillas get dry and stiff after a while. — Our waiter was also exceptionally friendly. Because we had a few vegetarians, he brought out black beans in addition to the salsa and charro beans(which contain pork) that come with the chips. — I love the décor of the place. It isn’t always something I give much weight to, but I was amused by the sombrero lamps and all the geckos, ants, and butterflies adorning the walls. — My friend thoroughly enjoyed his fish tacos. He also got to try a bit of the beef fajita, which he said was really good. The not-so-good: — Bf got the spinach & artichoke enchilada. It sounded good and I was actually thinking about ordering it myself, but we were not fans at all. It was most likely because of the chile cream sauce, which is the sauce they recommend on the menu. It just did not taste good — I can’t exactly put my finger on it because I don’t think it had a particular discernible flavor. I think perhaps it was too creamy for my taste. Or maybe it was also the cheese that we couldn’t really stomach for one reason or another. Either way, we couldn’t eat much of it without inducing a bit of a gag reflex. — This isn’t something that I put much weight on, but although the waiter was great, service overall was slow. Again, this doesn’t bother me so much, but It took longer than expected to get our food, and even waiting for boxes & checks to process took a while. I suppose it was a pretty busy day for the management & staff. So 3 stars is my compromise. If I ever came here again, I’d probably play it extra safe and avoid anything with that cream sauce.

I had heard a lot of great things about Lupe; my friend raves about them. I didn’t know they were a chain but that’s cool cuz it gives us more options ;) … We went to the Mopac location in the Arbor Walk. It was pretty busy since it was Happy Hour… we sat outside since the weather was great. Service was pretty quick. Salsa and chips seemed standard… I ordered a house margarita on the rocks($ 5 hh) and we shared a veggie fajita. The corn tortillas were great and we really enjoyed the fajitas. But… I think the favorite for tonight was the apple burrito… a bunch of warm apples rolled in a burrito with ice cream on top… sooo good! I’d love to come back since they had a ton of great things on the menu and happy to see a large selection of vegetarian options!

I have heard of Lupe Tortilla and I see my friends in the Houston area checking in here fairly often so it has been on my list of places to try even though it’s chain-y and there are a plethora of other Tex-Mex places. I did zero research on the menu and the prices. WOW are they proud of their beef. $ 20 for fajitas for one(basically). Don’t get me wrong, the food isn’t bad, but for the ~$ 50 we paid for two people for just fajitas for one(basically), one entrée, and two waters(no sodas, teas, nor alcohol) plus tip, we could have partied it up anywhere else. I say«fajitas for one(basically)» because it was just slightly too much for my husband to eat on his own, but really not enough for two people unless they have minuscule appetites or they ordered an appetizer or overate the chips or they filled up on the burrito-sized tortillas that come with the fajitas. I had the crab and avocado enchiladas. The avocado is diced on top of the enchiladas and they don’t say this on the menu but the enchiladas are stuffed with crab and monterrey jack cheese. They are also topped with a seafood-flavored sauce of some type — I forget what they called it. Anyway, it’s not bad. Some bites were definitely much more fishy than others. So yeah… even though the food is good, for the price it’ll be hard for me to justify going back when the wait is ridiculous(this was our second attempt to go here with the first wait being 45 minutes — another patron at that time said he had been waiting almost 2 hours) and I don’t feel like you *get* much for the price you pay. There are a gajillion places to eat in Austin that provide more overall for the money.

No me crees? Creemelo, en serio! Hijole, y ni he mencionado las tortillas. Las tortillas!!! Aaaaayyyyy!!! Translation: Do yourself a favor, don’t even look at the menu, just get the beef fajitas, mixed tortillas and a margarita. You’re welcome, the end!
