My boyfriend loves Man Bites Dog. Probably because he can get a fried egg on a hot dog. Who doesn’t want that? I am not an adventurous eater but do love their corndogs!

The chili dog is amazing. It would be amazing even without the kolache bun. Get one(or two) chili dogs, an order of fries, and a Mexican Coke for a delightful meal. If for some reason you hate chili, a plain dogs is good as well.

I ask two things of a dog place: — Make a good dog. — Don’t charge me a lot for that good dog. Man Bites dog satisfies one of those. Their dogs are phenomenal. Everything I’ve had here is goodness. But when I end up paying $ 10 plus for two dogs, I get a little grumpy. It’s not like their toppings are foie gras or rare truffles. It’s just some basic stuff. With that said, I had this brief, intense love affair with their chili cheese dog. At one point, I found myself counting down the minutes at work so I could fred flintstone out of there and jet over to M.B.D and get me a chili dog! I like this place, and the owner is a nice guy. He likes kung fu a lot, and he’ll talk to you about it. But I just wish this place didn’t kung fu kick my wallet. All in all, it’s still awesome.

Pretty damn good dogs! On this visit, I had the“Hair of the Dog”. A deep fried, bacon wrapped hot dog, with chili, cheddar cheese, a fried egg, and tabasco sauce to top it off. It was awesome. The best part is that you can order a 16 oz Budweiser for a buck if you order this beauty! Wifey had the Abe Froman because she wanted very close to a Chicago dog. She couldn’t stop talking about the buns…(Figures) I will be back, hopefully to try something different. But that dollar beer deal keeps me ordering the same thing. I think maybe the offer should be exteded to all dogs. Just a thought…

Ok… I have to say that this place is the hotdog paradise! They are so cool that they even have vegan dogs! I love the variety of items on the menu. I had a vegetarian conney and it was pretty awesome. LOVED their tater tots and vegetarian chili as well. The staff is super nice. The place is clean, good and clean bathrooms. I can’t wait to go back to Austin and eat there again.

I really like hot dogs. At Man Bites Dog, Hair of the Dog is my favorite hotdog. I have eaten in and carried out and had consistent food quality. I love the bread the hotdogs are big creative and juicy. At this location there games like Uno ans Connect 4 and they have a T.V. they have beer specials also. One time I ordered my meal I was able to add a can of Bud for only a $ 1. I’ve tried a few of other hot dog like the chilli dog this one is also good. The fries are made fresh, service is good and quick. This is a good spot if you like hotdog a bit pricey than the hotdog stands I’m used to on the corner of the streets of NY, but definitely worth it for the creative hot dogs and size. Highly recommended!

Took some British friends here(who were attending the F1 race) to give them an authentic(ish) Texas corn dog experience. We also ordered a couple of hotdogs(Original and a Chilli Cheese Dog)… everything was very tasty. I particularly like that they offer real sugar sodas as well as Mexican cokes(in the glass bottle… I’m never without a case or two of these in my garage fridge stock). I should note that we went mid afternoon on a weekday so there was no crowd which for me was a huge plus. I expect they draw a decent crowd around mealtimes and on weekends. Overall, I really enjoyed the food & atmosphere… the young lady operating the till was super nice as well!

I don’t remember much about my in-store visit(I’ll be sure to compare it with Dog Almighty, the former resident of this location, when I can), but I’m gonna throw down four stars for Man Bites Dog for offering up an incredible FREE hot dog buffet at Kung Fu Saloon every Sunday. This ain’t no Oscar Mayer lips-and-assholes stuff, either. It’s huge bratwursts and 1/5-lb. all-beef wieners with chili, onions, relish, cheese, and all the other usual condiments offered. The best part? The bread. It’s super-soft and yeasty.

I like wieners! Especially crispy wieners bathed in a chunky chili. They have various types of hot dogs here but I am a traditionalist when it comes to certain things — I would be OK with only bun, meat, ketchup, mustard. I really enjoyed the chili dog here because the wiener was a little crispy and the bun was soft but not too soft where it couldn’t absorb the chili juice. I gave in and ordered the tots(they were ½ off!). They were crunchy and hot but nothing special. Overall, decent place and they cater so if you’re looking for something different than sammy’s, this is a really good option!

*puppy head tilt* I’m still confused about why they would put a pickle spear on a hot dog if it already has relish. If you’re in the mood for a big-ass weiner… Just come with an appetite. Next time we will be sharing a hot dog. They also have smaller ‘lite’ hot dogs if you prefer that instead. Their chilli isn’t bad, but it’s not great. It’s just plain ‘ol chilli. Service is great and fast.

I don’t know what it is about Austin, but this city has a whole bunch of hot dog entrepreneurs(not in the hand-crafted sense, but rather in the way of just knowing how to run a hot dog-centered eatery) that know exactly where to set up shop. Take this location, for starters. In it, you have an Amy’s, a Phil’s, a pizza joint, and a Kerbey Lane. It just screams«Add a ‘unique’ frankfurter shop!’» What was the name of that hot dog joint that used to be here… Oh, I just read it on someone else’s review: Dog Almighty. I thought they did a fine job in cranking out hot dogs, but here, you will be blown away by their sides alone. Yeah, Man Bites Dog offers you up stuff like fried pickles, many awesome beers by the can, and an off-the-charts happy hour. I want to take note of their happy hour, foodwise. Their chili cheese fries during happy hour affords the«large» a cheaper price tag than the«small.» Isn’t that ridiculous? In effect, the large at half price is a mere $ 2.80. And they pile it on here. A basket full of fries gets smothered in some fairly mediocre chili, but the cheese is what makes it. A little preference I will have to take note of. My favorite thing about chili cheese fries is you work through all of the chili/cheese conglomeration, and then you discover some caked-on cheese on the bottom, near your buried crusty fries. Nice. They do good fries, OK chili, and lots of cheese. Under $ 3? Yes; I will take an order. Gladly. Yeah, yeah; I didn’t specifically go all out for a crazy in hot dog land, but how can you reject an astronomically large order of fried tubers suffocating in ridiculous amounts of ground cattle product and fermented infant cow nutrition supplement?

Hands down the BEST fried pickles in Austin. They don’t over bread them so you actually taste the pickle and not just fried breading. And when dipped in their ranch, it’s heavenly. The husband and I went to MBD for dinner last night because I was craving one of their delicious hot dogs. I am pretty boring when it comes to ordering because honestly, I just like plain beef hot dogs that I can dip in ketchup or add relish on top as I eat it, not smothered on top. The husband is the complete opposite. He ordered the Abe Froman which has mustard, onions, relish, tomatoes, sport peppers & celery salt. He said it was pretty dang tasty. He also ordered his meal as a combo & we shared the tater tots(also, yum!) So, for two hot dogs, tater tots, one soda & a order of fried pickles our total was like $ 13 and some change… sweet! Oh and they give you so much food, we couldn’t even finish it all. Yes, although I wanted to, I did not consume all of those amazing fried pickles– shame on me! Now that your mouth is watering from the thought of all their delicious food, go bite a dog(of the beef variety or turkey if you prefer) You can thank me later!

WOW. I was blown away by this joint! When was the last time you vegetarians out there had an affordable chili cheese dog that was completely meat free? I can tell you, for the price this place offers, this was supreme vegetarian fast food! I had the Chili Cheese Dog and my boyfriend had the Banh Mi Dog(with a beef frank) and we were both extremely pleased! The tater-tots were cooked perfectly and I know they couldn’t have been good for me, but I devoured them anyway. The only bad thing about this place is that I live literally two minutes away! Get your tater-tots ready, MBD, I will be back!

I have to say I was skeptical that another hot dog place could survive in a location where Dog Almighty failed. I thought Dog Almighty was pretty good and I had heard pretty good things about Man Bites Dog so I gave them a shot. I am glad I did. They have really set themselves apart from the crowd with 2 words… KOLACHEBUN!!! That’s right they use the same kind of bread that comes on a kolache for the hot dog bun. This really gives them the ability to load up on toppings without the bun just turning to mush. I tried the chili cheese dog and the danger dog. I enjoyed the fact that although I ate them with a knife and fork, I was with the lady after all, that they were still manageable enough to pickup and eat with your hands. The chili cheese dog was pretty standard issue so I will focus on the danger dog. The danger dog is a bacon wrapped beef dog topped with fresh jalapenos(not pickled), cojita cheese, and danger sauce(think Torchy’s Diablo sauce). I really liked that the jalapenos were fresh and crispy. I like Torchy’s Diablo sauce so that was pretty good. I like the creativity of going with the cojita cheese but it really gets lost in the flavors and I would rather see a more flavorful cheese that could meld with the rest of the dog but that is a minor complaint. My only complaint is that they were out of Fried Pickles and Chili Cheese Fries(but they did have chili and cheese on the hot dog, hmmm). But I do want to go back and try the Hair of the Dog hot dog and the Fried Pickles so I will update my review at that time. Service was OK, Portions are good, one hot dog should fill you up, and the Prices were really good. We got 2 dogs and drinks for $ 12. Also they have a lot of selection for different types of wieners from beef, pork, turkey, and of course veggie. Come for the buns and stay for the wiener.(sorry I couldn’t resist)…

If I’m going to pay extra for a gluten free bun, it would be nice to see them treated in the same manner as a normal bun. My husband’s dawg came in a bun that was buttered and toasted and my GF bun came out cold, stale and lackluster. Nothing special, really, and I can’t imagine going out for hot dogs on the regular now that I don’t work in the shopping center. But I like that they give out free meat on Sundays at Kung Fu Saloon during football season!

Ok, I know weiners. I mean to say I REALLY know weiners. I love the way they taste. I love them in the morning or late at night. I like big ones or smaller ones, as long as in the end I can say: «That was one satisfying weiner.» This wasn’t. It was ok. I had the Beer Brat. I thought it was over cooked and dry. The bun was hard, and didn’t seem entirely fresh. The fries were cooked perfectly, but absolutely nothing different than what I could have made at home. The Happy Hour prices were minimalist and I really think you should have more than one beer on tap. At least two. The bottled beer selection is really good though. Also, the kid that took our order was nice, and the food came quickly. I have to say I was really excited to see a new hot dog place open up in place of Dog Almighty. Maybe too excited.

Awesome! Gourmet hot dogs in a convenient location with friendly staff. Ever had a banh mi dog? How about a bacon-wrapped hot dog with pulled pork and cole slaw? You can also get the world’s best corn dogs here, no joke. Want a regular hot dog. Go elsewhere. Want a flavor explosion? Come here.

I got the DANGERDOG and my boyfriend got the BANHMIDOG and they were both so savory and flavorful! The Danger Dog was so bad for me, but I didn’t care, I finished it because it was so delicious. The hot dogs are pretty big, so we opted without a side of french fries, which we thought was a wise choice. I’m definitely going back!

I recently discovered Man Bites Dog in an attempt to find some really good vegetarian hot dogs. To say that I reached that goal when trying my first old school dog(add cheese and jalapenos of course) would be an understatement. The best part about Man Bites Dog for me is that they let you substitute a vegetarian frank onto ANY dog for no extra cost. That is a vegetarian’s dream, considering you can’t find many places where they don’t charge you extra for saving them money by buying cheaper meat substitutes. The menu is also a good-sized menu and although I will never try the majority of these combinations(dog + peanut butter and jelly + cap’n crunch?), there’s definitely something out there for everyone. I’ve read a lot of reviews about customers saying that the hot dogs are too big, which is just not true. In any case and if you find them to be, they have a slim dogs menu that will easily solve the issue. The best part about every hot dog is the bread – it’s just phenomenal. Also, the other day I called in my order and spoke to the nicest employee. When I showed up, he addressed me by my name and surprised me with such lovely communication skills. He had accidentally forgotten to make one of the dogs a vegetarian one, and on top of apologizing, he made me an entire extra hot dog to take home with me. To sum up this review, this place really has it all. Did I mention they also have a happy hour from certain times where you can get part of their menu half-off?

Good dogs albeit a bit pricey. Had a chili cheese dog with onions and a bottled water — cost me a bit over $ 8. That’s like 5 Costco(plain) hot dog combos! Yikes. That being said, the Frito pie was pretty cheap at $ 3. Anyway, the dog was tasty as was the chili. Much better than Dog Almighty. But what’s the deal with no iced tea? I’ll be back when I’m feeling luxe.
