«My story is probably quite similar to many who get caught up in the business of that thing we call life. I have never had a weight problem until I reached my forties. I started noticing the results of reduced metabolism, so I compensated by increasing my exercise level without adjusting my diet.
This worked until a chronic issue with my SI joint resulted in my level of exercise decreasing with still no modification to my diet. The end result was a gradual increase in weight over the next several years. As my waist size expanded, I just adjusted to the new me without realizing the physical and emotional impact my weight gain was having. At the age of forty five I made a decision to drop the weight. I did drop the weight but did it mainly through a starvation type diet and minimal exercise, so the end result was not one of being fit. Shortly after my weight loss at the age of 46 I suffered several fractured lumbar vertebrae as a result of a skydiving accident. This began a severe metamorphosis of my physique and psyche.
With a complete inability to exercise and still no modification to my diet I rapidly gained back the weight I had lost and continued to increase in weight to a point that was much heavier than I had ever been. In November 2011, my ever expanding waist line and I were sent TDY (Temporary Duty) to Austin. This TDY assignment required me to live out of a hotel, which increasingly undermined any chance at reclaiming any level of fitness or so I thought. In January of 2012, I faced the realization that my waist line was rapidly reaching my age, so once again I made a commitment to lose weight. And yes, true to form, void of a modification to my diet. So with looming directly in front of me the necessity to purchase that next size of slacks I started walking on the treadmill at the hotel. After day three of my new fitness program as I was leaving the hotel workout area, I noticed an Austin Fit magazine in the magazine rack. I’m not certain why, but I felt compelled to read the magazine. I took it with me to my room and thumbed through it with very little interest until I came upon an ad that started the beginning of my incredible journey.
I did an orientation the following week and suffered the indignity of having my photo taken in what was the worst shape of my life. When I saw my photos I was shocked. I had no idea how unfit I had become. It was truly shocking. This solidified my desire to succeed in my endeavor to lose weight. What I didn’t envision was the amazing level of fitness and dietary education I would attain during my journey.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I showed up for my first group training session with Kevan Smith, but was determined that failure was not an option. Kevan has been an amazing instructor and is directly responsible for me reaching a level of fitness well beyond any other point in my life. His professional yet personal approach is beyond anything I could have hoped for. I am impressed at how well he is in tune with each participant in the training sessions that I have attended and his innate ability to provide personalized attention to each participant regardless of level of fitness. I suffered a knee injury that required immediate surgery about halfway through my first twelve week session a shoulder injury requiring surgery halfway through my second twelve weeks and a DVT that required immediate hospitalization. Due to Kevan’s knowledge and expertise he has been able to modify my workouts to accommodate my rehabilitation without any significant loss in fitness I had already attained.
Living out of a hotel, my dietary success was only possible due to my wife mass preparing and proportioning my food for the week along with the oversight of my client manager.

I have been training with Nicole for over a year, and at times have had a chance to work with Kevan and Gabe as well. They are a dynamic team of trainers who are compassionate but push you to exceed beyond what you think you can do. I do group training and I get lots of individual attention. I think they are the best in town, and they cater to your needs, even in group training. Everyone gets what they need, with each workout tweaked just for them. I think they are fantastic and can’t say enough positive things about them. If you haven’t signed up yet, you really should. You’ll never want to leave, everyone is like family.
