There’s a reason why this place received 5 star rating. They have the best banh mi in town. Everything I had there has tasted great. They just moved out of the market to the bakery 2 doors down. There are some tables but I have always ordered it togo. But the best thing about Ng BMT is the ladies who make the sandwiches. They’re so friendly and know that they’re doing. FYI, BMT stand for Banh Mi Thit.

NGBMT is located inside the Lucky Bakery and Café…they’re the café part now. You can eat here if you’re early, they have three tables and ten chairs, and two places to check out, the same young lady will check you out, but baked goods are charged at one and sammies and coffee drinks at the other… that’s a little different. The grilled pork bahn mi with all the accouterments that I devoured was on substantial bread/baguette, lots of good chew, the grilled porky goodness was to my liking… it didn’t disappear on it’s own power. My wife ordered the meatball bahn mi which i’ll get to eat later… she can’t handle the chew… she’s a Wonder Bread girl, I really, really, really hate that i’ll be forced to have another encounter of the carne kind… the iced coffee drinks were very good and the chocolate bread was done very well, not too sweet… just right.

I think the banh mi is good and the lady is really nice just like others have mentioned. Would I rave about this and tell the world it is a must try? Probably not.

Comparing what I have tasted in 3 of Texas’s major cities, this place is simply mouthwatering. Location has changed to inside the bakery in the same shopping center btw. I had the banh mi thit nuong(charbroiled pork) and it was seasoned so perfectly. The meat was tender and was well cut to where you get just the right amount of meat in each bite. It’s not necessary to tear the meat at all. Everything ingredient was fresh too! My boyfriend had the shrimp ball sandwich(banh mi tom) and he liked it a whole lot! The cold tofu was very new to me. A 5 oz. portion is merely $ 1 and is served with sweet coconut milk. Yum!

I’m so excited; the ladies have moved uptown(well, two doors down, actually) into their own space, so you no longer have to traipse through Hong Kong grocery(same shopping center, now next door to Sunflower) The food is as good as ever and the bahn mi is still the best in town for my money. They’ve also expanded their bakery offerings, oh my gosh! Don’t hold off, go immediately and have one of everything! Previous review: Damn, I’m a fan. For anyone complaining(and I’ve heard a lot of them) about the lack of a real French bakery in Austin, go for the baguette! First, the ladies are sweet enough to die for. I love to call in and go pick up around 1. It seems they’re never quite as busy and they always come out of the kitchen for a chat. Secondly, every sandwich(every time) is crafted. Do you know what I mean, where all the parts are where they’re supposed to be, not half the meat on one side and the spread in a gloppy goo right in the middle?(that’s so disappointing – I want you to put love into my sammich)

Found this on Unilocal.I know my banh mi since tried all them in dallas, Houston and California. I must admit that I was surprised that they had a great banh mi thit nuong(char grilled pork) in Austin. I wished it was there while I lived here while in college. Austin has gotten more Asian restaurants conpared to 20 years ago. It is in the Hong Kong strip called Lucky bakery. You would never knew it existed if werent for Unilocal. They had limited menu but I only tried one sandwich. The baquette was crunchy and not crumbly. I like it. Now, the meat was plentiful and grilled. The mayo was well blended. The veggie was mainly carrots and cilantro and a jalapeño but usually should have pickled daikon and cucumbers. I knocked off a star for the $ 5 price. Most places charge $ 2.75to $ 3.50 but nonetheless better deal than a cold subway I think the price should have included a drink. My son had the fried long doughnut but wished they had congee porridge to dip it with. Not a great as SFO But it was tasty and not too oily. I will be enjoying my banh mi as I drive back to Dallas

Just finished eating here and my tastebuds are singing. Ordered the pepper shrimp bahn mi for $ 7. Nice size and filling. Perfect amount of hotness. Also had a sesame hollow bun which is essentially a sesame donut. Great combo of savory and sweet. I could easily keep eating if my stomach would let me. Friendly owner who doted on us. I love this place!

I had heard how amazing these sandwiches were for months. Finally I decided that I needed to go and see how they were. I just recently got out of the hospital and wanted to pick up some sandwiches for the next few days to munch on while my mom took care of me. We got 6 grilled pork sandwiches. You buy 5, get one free. Got the veggies on the side. At no time have I had these sandwiches fresh. I just warm them up under the broiler in my stove and throw the veggies on. My god. They are incredible. Even a couple days later. I can’t imagine them being better and I know they have to be when they are fresh. I’m going back tomorrow for another sack of sandwiches.

This is one of Austin’s best kept secrets, but I hope more people come to enjoy their delicious sandwiches! I love the pepper shrimp and lemon cookies. They make one of best bahn mis I’ve ever had. Other popular favorites are the pâté with ham and grilled pork. They also make homemade tofu so it’s great for vegans! Please try the sweets, they are all homemade!

The pork sandwich I got was good. I took it to go so I can eat it later. So I told her to put the veggies in a separate bag from the pork and bread. I heated up later in my hotel room and it was delicious. $ 5 for this sandwich. CASHONLY. — update they accept credit cards too now.

My first time«Bahi Mi» was devoted to this lovely shop!!! Located in the lucky bakery(another hot spot! Very convenient for me since I can get Bahi mi and red bean cake at the same time~~No need to run around! Always get the shrimp one which is sooo flavorful! And the size of shrimp is big as well! Fresh baked baguette and Vietnamese pickles plus hot sauce(you can ask for) really get me addicted to it!

The best traditional Vietnamese Banh Mi in Austin, hands down. If you’re into traditional, #s 1 – 3 are better than most i’ve ever had. You can just see the traditional ingredients, smell the bread, and taste the freshness of the Vietnamese ham and quality French pâté. Make sure you ask for the bread to be heated up before eating it. They have fusion meatball banh mi too and it’s supposedly pretty good… if you’re into that kind of stuff. I personally just want the homemade traditional style perfected. No runny eggs and shenanigans in my Banh Mi. It gets too soggy and overwhelms the other ingredients. As for service, the ladies here are super sweet. I would definitely recommend. They used to be inside the HK Supermarket but have move onto greener pastures… a few stores down to the left.

great spot for a quick bite the place is kind of hidden and just to let everyone know they moved out of the Asian market and into the bakery next door. I had the grilled pork banh mi very good all around sandwich from the fresh bread to the pickled veggies and of course perfectly cooked pork. we also very much enjoyed the blueberry moose cake pure awesomeness ! We will be back for more…

How banh mi sandwiches should be. You should never have to pay $ 7 for a banh mi. The $ 5 price here is awesome, and the taste is nostalgic to me. I ordered the grilled pork banh mi and the hot tofu dessert. I love that I can come here for lunch and be full for under $ 7! The value is insane here. The combination of that marinated grilled pork, pickled veggies, and crunchy baguette is just perfect. Buy 5 and you get 1 free! You’d think no one would buy 5 banh mi, but trust me, Vietnamese families go crazy for this. The hot tofu dessert was $ 1.50 for the small, and it’s a nice warm dessert on a cold day. It’s basically soft tofu in this sweet soup with slices of ginger. It wasn’t too sweet, which was perfect for me. Try it if you’re feeling adventurous! Also, they have moved to the store right next to Sunflower. They have their own building now! I’m so proud. They used to be in the back of the Hong Kong supermarket, hidden from sight. Now it should be easy to find AND you have tables you can sit at. :) The ladies who run this shop are super sweet. She even came over to my table and asked if we would like cups of water. Now quit reading, and go get your banh mi!

First time at their new location in lucky bakery! We ordered two banh mis, one grilled pork and one meatball. The size of the sandwich has definitely gone down and also the ingredients. They used to pack so much more into the sandwich which made it seem more bang for your buck. Both ends of the sandwiches had no meat, just really the baguette… 4⁄5 for the grilled pork. Grilled pork was flavorful, but you had to eat until the middle to get the full meaty taste. 2⁄5 for the meatball. The meat ball had very light flavor, could barely taste the seasonings. This use to be my favorite one too! Staff were pleasant but sandwiches use to be better. Maybe it was an off day for them? Hope not though, this place was my favorite! Overall 3 stars for their sandwiches and 1 extra for their fast and pleasant service.

My taste buds are pretty picky. They have a certain aristocracy when food is introduced to them. Now that’s not to say they haven’t neen introduced to gruel before. I just walked up to the counter and said lady bahn mi! You know it was my first experience with that type of sandwich. As much as I want to claim how adventurous I can be I never tried the bahn for no reason in particular. I now realize that I’ve been missing out. The bread on this sandwich is great. I’m not sure what they use in the bread but it’s very tasty. The baguette isn’t exactly what I had in France but it’s close. The meat is plain delicious and tasty. I have been there for lunch three weeks in a row. I have tried the grilled pork and the pepper shrimp. Each sandwich stands alone in it’s own way. The pork is not to greasy and cooked almost to a cheese steak texture. The shrimp is cooked and seasoned just right, not to crisp or salty. I even bought some of the pastries they sell. The egg custard is good. They sell a nice challa bread as well. How they get them so soft is amazing. Today 2.17.16 I met a co-worker here. It was really cool and he enjoyed it. In fact he bought pastries after we ate and his total exceeded our lunch total. Bottom line get there and tell the Lady behind the counter to bahn me!

Aint no Banh Mi like a Ng BMT Banh Mi cause an NGBMT Banh Mi don’t stop! Guess what ladies and gents… I had NEVER had a Banh Mi before. Stop it! Shut up! No… really. This was it, the proverbial popping of the Banh Mi cherry. And I admit it Tim Tebow, the abstinence was worth the wait. Yummmmmm! They are located inside of a bakery so the bread is incredibly fresh. And while you can smear vegemite on fresh bread and it would still be tasty, this was delicious. We had the pepper shrimp and the classic pork banh mi. Both… outstanding! The veggies were fresh with that perfect pickle and the proteins were cooked to perfection. Super quick too. And now that I’m used Banh Mi goods I won’t feel bad about stopping through here just any ol time I want for that delicious Asian sub.

Yeah, it’s good. Yes, they are friendly. Yes, they moved out of the stinky fish market. Yes they have pastries and things too. The only down side to this place is that they don’t but a ton of meat in the sandwich. But then again the sandwich only cost $ 5… so maybe that is how they keep costs down? Whatever, it doesn’t really matter. All that really matters is that their sandwiches are effin’ delicious and you should stuff one in your facehole asap.

The couple is very friendly and I always feel welcomed, however, you should cover your nose when you walk into the supermarket. This has nothing to do with Ng, which appears very clean, but having to walk through a smelly market just doesn’t make for a pleasant experience. On to the sandwiches… They are a bit pricey, but there is a decent amount of meat filing. I have had everything on the menu except the tofu and everything tasted good, but not great compared to sandwiches in San Jose or cities with a large Vietnamese population. But, they are my go to place when I’m craving a banh mi thap cam in Austin. FYI, If you are taking it to go, ask them to pack the veggies separately.

I think part of my love for this place comes from nostalgia. Being in Hong Kong Supermarket with all the smells(even the fishy ones), exotic fruits, and familiar snacks, drinks, and condiments just brings me to a happy place and reminds me of my old Asian-dominated neighborhood in California. With that said, the tofu banh mi I had here was bomb. The tofu was flavorful and had a pretty good consistency, the baguette was just the right amount of crunchy without being too hard, the mayo spread was delicious, and the pickled veggies are crisp and aren’t overly sour. Again maybe my lofty review is in part due the long absence I’ve had from Vietnamese food. But I do believe it is solidly good in its own right and it was very filling and satisfying. I also had a ‘Chinese long donut’, which is another childhood favorite of mine. I like that it wasn’t as oily or chewy as some others I’ve had(though in Chinese it literally translates to ‘oil stick’). The woman who took our order and made our food was extremely friendly and cheerful and offered us a sample of the sesame one as well. It was absolutely delicious and I am definitely going to order at least one of those next time. It’s slightly sweet and tastes just like the ones my parents used to get for me. The next time I need some Asian groceries, I am most definitely stopping for some sandwiches and a taste of home.
