Good food, just remember to go inside at this location. If you go through the drive-through, they’ll cut you off and you’ll get what they make you(has happened 3x). Even when it’s dead at 3PM. Maybe everyone hates working the drive through? Anyway, it’s Thundercloud, so the sandwiches are great, but I’ve been to better/more friendly locations.

Super friendly staff, subs were great and the sauces are flavorful. Keep it up! The place can get a bit noisy and the tables were a bit dirty, but probably because if was during lunch rush.

As a former employee of this location and lifetime customer of Thundercloud Subs as a company, I can honestly say this is the best location with the best quality of food. Living off of Burnet Rd most of my life I’ve had 3 locations nearby to choose from but this has consistently been the best, must have something to do with this store having the same manager most of my life haha. To everyone who complains about any Thundercloud store running out of bread by around 8pm: Thundercloud is a company that receives an order of FRESHBAKED bread with NOPRESERVATIVES from a BAKERY every single morning and considering the fact that managers cannot see the future and don’t want to waste bread/money, they order whatever they think they will sell that day so it is YOUR fault if you come in an hour or less before close and get all pissy because the shop is out of some things, and most days there is actually bread left over by closing time. Restaurants aren’t magical places that pull ingredients out of their butts, you actually have to order a limited amount of things and managers try to not waste money/supplies/ingredients by overordering too much. ALSO: the Nada chicken patties are NOTVEGAN(something about the breading having egg), but the wheat bread is! Any employee that tells you otherwise is mistaken, I have triple-checked these facts myself.

Thundercloud is plain and simple and that is what is lovely about these guys. This particular location was great. The workers were super friendly and worked as fast as they could without dropping everything everywhere! They were a bit quirky and yet somehow quite professional so that was fun, too. The location is not the easiest to find but they have outdoor and indoor seating so that is pretty nice. The tables outside wobble like crazy but I guess that would be something that the corporate people would need to take care of. Plenty of parking!

At 6:30pm on a Monday they’re out of all bread except 2 small wheat. How does this happen at a sub shop?!

I have been going to this location since ’99. I have really enjoyed it most of the time. My favorite item is the Office Favorite. I get it every time. The last 10 times or so, I have only been happy half of them. Today for example, my egg salad was like spreading mustard on a sandwich. I could not even taste it. I even took off the top bread and I still could not really taste it. If I go to Garden Spot Deli down the road, I never have this problem. Egg salad should not just be a spread. It needs to be thicker. By the time you have bread, cheese, bacon, onions, etc. you can not taste it. I really like egg salad, so I will be back or try the one on Parmer Ln. If this location does get better, I will change my star rating.

I work in a kitchen and have developed a strong stomach. Takes quite a bug to make me sick. That being said, my wife and I ate salami sandwiches from here today. We are both sick. That means something must have gone bad. Not going back any time soon.

Easily my favorite location. The reason being is the awesome staff, everyone there is really cool and are usually pretty quick. The sandwiches are also great for the price!

EDIT: For the past 6 months they’ve been much more consistent since my original review. They never mess up my order since my original post. I come here a lot cause it’s cheap, it’s close to work, and they have a drive-thru window(I would say at least once a week). But they get my order 100% right only about 60% of the time. Extra frustrating considering I only ever want meat, cheese, and mayo on white bread. So if you’re rolling drive-thru, be loud & repetitive. Then maybe they’ll get it right.

The staff is what makes this place the best, they are super friendly, know my order and make my sandwich crazy fast. I always order the California Club, completely lunch goodness. Or they have the specials which are crazy cheap, just depends on which one is on special.

Weekly I come in or place a pick up order and am always greeted in a friendly manner and provided with excellent service. Not to say that other Thundercloud locations are sub par, but this one is truly top notch.

Thundercloud is quite alright, you know, if you’re into sandwiches and soup. They aren’t the best sandwich in the universe, but the best sandwich in the universe is not in Austin at all, sadly. Regardless, Thundercloud is solid and their soup is actually worth the money, unlike soups at various sandwich places. At this particular location, I really like the staff. They are friendly and funny without seeming fake. Place always seemed clean to me. I work nearby and eat there all the time, haven’t gotten sick once. Great start. They’ve lots of local/organic/grass-fed etc options, which is awesome and clientele-savvy… Austin’s pretty into that. They also have a drive-thru with extremely loud speakers, which is useful if you’re trying to order something and funny if you’re walking by.

I have been eating at various Thundercloud Subs locations for years. I have never had an issue with them, they are usually pretty solid. This location is disgusting. While I waited I watched the two guys make subs barehanded. Not a huge deal if you washed your hands, but during the course of making three sandwiches they touched their faces, pants, cash register, handled money and credit cards. The one guy rubbed his mustache 3 separate times. One of them full on stroked his giant beard mid-sandwich prep. I’m not a squeamish person, but I was so grossed out by this that I just got chips and a coke.

NOGLOVES! Dirty, greasy hipsters in a small shack with dirty greasy walls, smudges and crumbs on the two tables they have, but if they wiped it it’d probably be with a dirty rag. The guy told me he washes his hands, that’s why they don’t need gloves. He washes them once a week after his dump, I’m sure. Extra charge for olives, pickles, jalapenos, etc. Each sandwich has two prices, one is for a 7 inch, and one a 10 inch, but you wouldn’t know that because the menu doesn’t tell you. Behind the counter a bunch of men and the obligatory underweight, heavily made-up girl. It’s all very Austin. The sandwich was adequate.

Thundercloud is an Austin staple, and it is for good reason. I’ve had home-grown Austin friends assail me with stories of just how amazing thundercloud is, so I’ve been eager to try it. Long story short? It’s no fricanos, but it is a good deli shop. Between subway and thundercloud, thundercloud wins hands down. I feel like their sandwich quality is better at better prices to boot. Win-win. Still, there wasn’t anything else about thundercloud that blew me away. If delis sandwiches are your bread and butter, then yeah — by all means go get your daily fix of thundercloud. It’s a solid sandwich at an unbeatable price. Otherwise, you’re not missing too much.

I’ve been really disappointed with thundercloud lately… not just one, but several of the locations have seemed to go downhill in food quality and service. I was pleasantly surprised by this one though. We happened to be in the area, and wanted something cheap but healthy. Considering the other nearby choices were a mcdonalds, a pizza place, or a donut place, we opted for thundercloud. The guy making our sandwich was super nice. Amazing what a remarkable difference just that one thing can make! We tried the weekly special, the texas tuna, even though I’m not much of a tuna lover. But alas, he really wanted it so I said«what the hell, we’re already at a sandwich place I’ve started to hate, why not?» I was surprised for the second time when it was actually pretty good! Not terribly fishy, and the jalapenos they put on there seemed to counteract the blandness. Plus there was lots of thunder sauce and black pepper… yum! Definitely try this place over the other one on burnet… and possibly the rest of the locations in austin!
