THIS is what the east side used to look like before the hipsters took over: Sorry, this is not a «dive», but a CANTINA with only a handfull of beers to choose from and Univisión playing on the Tv. The best part is that it’s very clean.

Pete’s Bar: Dive and Jason G’s sanctuary from clowns. I’ve only been here once(when we were escaping from the clown infestation at Shangri-La), and I really regret that I haven’t been back. The regulars and the bartender were SO friendly I couldn’t stop smiling or talking about how much I thought our friend group should start drinking there more often. The bartender even invited us to her birthday party later in the week. When you need a break from feeling like your eyeglasses aren’t fake enough or you’re not wearing the right style of cardigan at one of the hipster bars, give Pete’s Bar a chance. It’s a haven for the non-hipsters who still want to drink on the east side.

This place has totally been my SX refuge. It’s the perfect place to sip a cold beer and take refuge from the barrage of hipsters. The good news is that they always have TP, they now take debit cards and there’s always a friendly table willing to make room. We drew a hopscotch board out in front of it and watched folks try to hopscotch. Actually pretty hilarious. I have a feeling you could bring food in here, order pizza, whatever and it would be cool. if you’re looking for a break and a beer and some phil collins or lionel ritchie or MJ on the jukebox, this is a good spot to start.

Pete’s bar is nestled right next to a bunch of new east side bars that are clearly drawing a different clientele than what Pete’s bar is going for. How do I know this? Well the second time I went in, someone said«I think you have the wrong bar, you’re looking for the Shangri-La next door». To which I replied, «no, I want Pete’s Bar». He responded with, «oh, ok, what’ll ya have?». I thought about asking what they had on draft but thought better of the joke and ordered a Miller Lite. Bottom line, it’s a dive; but the prices are awesome, the patrons are really friendly and there’s karaōke on Friday nights. It’s really small so don’t bring a large crowd here and don’t expect a quiet, relaxing, hipster-geared atmosphere, this is Pete’s Bar, not the Shangri-La.
