Boohoo. I think they are closed. At least the sign never says«open» anymore. Sad face.

I HAD… The broccoli and chorizo empanadas. NOTE I baked my empanadas at home after brushing them with olive oil, which I believe makes a significant impact on the texture and flavor of the crust. BROCCOLIEMPANADA Outstanding! Great broccoli flavor with right the right amount of mozzarella cheese and garlic. The crust — having been brushed with olive oil — was crisp yet with some doughy-ness. CHORIZOEMPANADA Very good. Nice seasoning and bits of olive. A great choice.

From my one experience, I can definitely say this is the best pizza in this corner of town. I’ve only had it once, but I will update my review once I’ve sampled more of the menu. Huge draw back is the hours. Only open until 7pm on weeknights, frustrating for later eaters. Then on saturday only open 3−7pm, and closed sundays.

Pizzeria La Boca is my favorite pizza joint in the ‘hood. Please pay no attention to the lame-os who shortchanged this little gem on stars. They were just sad they didn’t get some Olive Garden quality Papa Johns hoohah. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because it is definitely a carry-out sort of place. Not much atmosphere. But that’s what home is for. The couple that runs this place is adorable. She’s Latin, he’s Italian, or maybe it’s the other way around. But that doesn’t matter. They make a calzone that will melt your panties off. It’s really that good. And it will feed at least 4 people, unless you are absurdly large or absurdly greedy. Their pasta dishes all weigh several pounds, and are highly delicious. I recommend this option for those who are having a little dinner party but don’t feel like actually cooking. Mmmmm. Everything is fresh, fresh, fresh, and completely delicious. Sadly, it has been closed for the past week, so I am desperately hoping that they are just taking an Italian style summer vacation, even though it isn’t summer yet. So there you have it: local, delicious, made with love. Go get you some.

The Mediterranean style pizza we ordered was soggy in the middle. Although that wasn’t the first thing I noticed about the pizza — the dough is delicious but you just can’t miss the water slide of cheese at the end of the slice. Frozen vegetables? What else could it be? Dining in was OK but the space is small, consisting of 3 tables. If seated with your back to the windows, you’ll have a view of the industrial freezers, a trash can, and a stainless steel work table. «Who wants to be a Millionaire» on the TV — I could take it or leave it. Might give it another go since it’s in my hood and I enjoy their empanadas which Corona Café serves up. Again, the dough is the best part with the fillings(sweet potato, curry, apple) being just an addition you hardly remember.

Ordered their stuffed pizza for pick up and it was ready when they said it would be. Got home, and cut into it, and there was absolutely no tomato sauce. Strange thing is, it still tasted pretty good, but it really should have come with tomato sauce, like the menu says it does. I’ll probably order again some time, and mention the sauce. Also, this thing was huge… heaviest pizza I’ve ever held. Could definitely feed more than two people – probably about four people would get a decent meal off of that.

I returned today to sample the food. I called in a Stromboli, and told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, it had just come out of oven, and I took the food and a bag of Ruta Maya coffee beans home. At every point, the service was friendly and prompt. Delicious crust. Fresh ingredients. I didn’t love the cheese, but it was better than most pizza places. Big enough to be lunch for two days, and at $ 10 for the stromboli, that’s a great deal. I didn’t absolutely love it, but I liked it enough to come back and try their pizzas.

We live just down the street from Pizzeria La Boca, and are delighted to have this gem in our neighborhood. The pizza is delicious, and they have a very nice selection of toppings. Their Greek pizza is a special treat. The pizza is very clearly homemade, and the couple that own this establishment are delightful. The sauce is good, the toppings are fresh and tasty, and they use plenty of yummy cheese. Pizzeria La Boca is exactly the type of neighborhood establishment I love to support in our area. Great business, great product. If you do go, note that they’re really only set up for carryout. They do have a very small lunch counter area, but if you’re feeding a group or a family, this is clearly a pick up and go kind of place. But oh, you’ll be glad you did. Great pizza, and you get that extra seasoning of «feel good» for supporting a local business.

The people behind this little pizzeria know what they are doing. I had their cheese and pepperoni pizzas, and they are delicious. The ingredients used were top-notch in quality and freshness. Several creative pizzas are also available, like the seafood pizza. Good pizza and a friendly, homely atmosphere makes this joint a great Italian getaway in Austin.

On the advice of a friend we tried the stromboli calzone. It was incredible! The crust was perfect and it was stuffed with great ingredients. We also tried the spaghetti, which was not so great. But I can’t wait to try the pizza. Service was great and very friendly. Definitely worth a try, especially to keep a good restaurant on the east side.

I’m sad Chris beat me to the first review, because I actually really like this place. We moved to Manor Rd near 183 not long ago, and Austin’s Pizza, our old go-to pizza place, doesn’t deliver out here. La Boca is actually a joint pizza/empanada place(they serve their empanadas at Pacha, The Ginger Man, and many other places in town). Their empanadas are tasty but their pizza is my favorite thing here. It tastes very«made from scratch» if you know what I mean, and they pile on the toppings really nicely. The crust is just a tiny bit thin for my taste, but probably not quite as thin as, say, Home Slice. I’ve never tried their pasta, but a group of four friends and I all agreed that this is one of our new favorite pizza places.

I visited Pizzeria La Boca on a recommendation from the The Chronicle’s recent Austin Pizza issue. Also, I received a menu on my house door and I live down the road from them. For starters, I ordered pasta(spaghetti & marinara). The spaghetti was very bad. It was as if the spaghetti was made hours earlier and was allowed to sit around and clump together. By the the time I got it, it was one huge clump of spaghetti with very little sauce, I think it was sauce. On a positive note: I also ordered a greek salad, which was very good with fresh tasting ingredients. The services was good and the two people that I spoke with were very nice. I’m assuming that the pizza is their specialty. So, I’ll give them another try hoping that the pizza will be much, much better than the Spaghetti. I gave them two stars only because the service was good. Otherwise it would have been 1 star.
