I went in a few days ago looking for automotive wire, a switch and circuit board. They guy who was working said they don’t have those products for cars. I just left the radio shack at parmer and mopac with everything I needed. This store hires idiots and I have no plan to ever return.

Welcome to what my friend Phillip B. calls«the nasty list.» I stopped in here today to get a replacement cable and car charger for my iPhone 5. The one employee on duty is busy and clearly in over his head talking with a customer about using a prepaid cell phone to receive international calls and text internationally. Between the customer’s poor English and the salesperson’s poor product knowledge, it was a match made in the underworld, for sure. I couldn’t find the iPhone chargers and he asked from the counter if he could help me. He then waved/pointed his hand toward a different area of the store that had a variety of aftermarket chargers. After a few minutes of picking through a collection of schlock that was dollar store quality at department store pricing, I went to the AT&T store. Moral of the story — the rumors are true — Radio Shack pretty much only wants to sell you a cell phone. Otherwise, you can go pound sand and serve yourself.

Please, please, PLEASE do not buy a cell phone here. Radioshack was offering a deal on the HTC One X and I was stupid enough to buy one from them. Their insurance is a scam, if you don’t believe me just google it and you’ll see pretty much nothing but complaints. The entire process has been a huge waste of time and a giant mess of lies and/or incompetence from RadioShack. To sum it up, they sold the insurance as being through RadioShack with the ability to swap the phone in store with a new phone if you had a problem. In reality, the insurance involves paying a massive deductible and being forced to mail in the phone to a third-party who would fix it and mail it back. Not even close to what was sold to me. Because of this shady crap, they’ve lost me as a customer for life. I’d rather throw my money in a duffel bag and light it on fire than spend a single cent of it at any RadioShack.

Many of the things in the store are overpriced. I usually only come to Radio Shack if I wanted some small electronics fast like LEDs for some mini projects. For large quantity orders, even the bigger stores like Best Buy or Fry’s have better price than Radio Shack. The staff here were nice though.

So I went into a Radio Shack today for the first time in… 15 years. I felt like a kid again going into a local mom-n-pop electronic store. Small shop with limited selection at full retail prices but the 100 pack of C-Rs were on-sale for $ 10 so I had to get that. I am very impressed by how they are still in business? With electronic super giants like Best Buy, Walmart, and how in the world is Radio Shack still alive? I am so very impressed that they are still here. I think I might start coming here for my basic electronic needs because I’m very awkwardly impressed but their survival in these days. Kinda like rooting for the underdog. It’s just a strange admiration for the small shop. I wonder if they sell drugs out the backroom or something… I’m still wondering how they stay in business. Someone should make a documentary about this. I can’t sleep.

I am writing this for all Radio Shacks, not picking on the one in Far West. I really think the whole chain sucks. Really, really sucks. I don’t get the concept at all. Overpriced merchandise and annoying sales people. I remember years ago they had the most retarded policy. They insisted on taking down you personal information by hand on any size sale to build up their mailing list. I tried to buy a battery one time and they wouldn’t sell it to me unless i spent 5 minutes giving up my personal address, etc. I stopped going there for 7 years because of that episode. I have gone back since and I still don’t get it. With Frye’s, Circuit City and Best Buy. why does the Earth need Radio Shack? The Radio Shack brand is definitely not Cool. I think we should turn all Radio Shacks into Taco Deli’s and the world would be a better place.

i can’t believe i actually went inside a radio shack yesterday but i did. they were having an amazing sale on wireless routers and i had to kick myself and see what this store is all about. the staff was pretty nice… i must have been one of the few people in because i felt they were being extra smiley with me. everything else looks a tad bit overpriced but hey… when in far west! the manager didn’t realize there was an instant rebate on my router… and grabbed my receipt to see how it printed out. that was a tad bit unnerving that the store manager wasn’t up to date with the chain pricing but i saved money regardless.
