Ive been getting my haircut with Steven and i think he is the best yet. I have seen many stylists before in Austin and NYC, when i lived there and i think Steven is a cut above all of them. i tell him what i am looking for in simple terms and he does exactly that. He is precise and detailed and a lot of style. I like his suggestions as it has worked out great for me and i think a seasoned hair expert knows how to make your hair compliment your face. And to top that, he is super nice guy and has an amazing team!
I highly recommend him.

Steven and his team have been amazing to work with and I will not trust my hair to anyone else in Austin! It’s easy and convenient to make appointments online (no waiting for someone to answer the phone) and the whole salon has a cool, laid back vibe. Steven has cut, colored, and highlighted by hair and every time I go, I find myself making up reasons to go back. Love, love, love!

I have never encountered a salon that was more like going to a friend’s shop, they were all so welcoming. Steve listened to my concerns, wants, and I was a person not just another customer that walked through the door. Even though I do not live in Austin, I would make the trip from Las Vegas to Austin to go here! Fabulous fabulous place.

New to Austin, and in need of a new hair stylist Lisa at steven todd did not disappoint! The salon is well designed and clean with a friendly staff. Lisa was amazing through the entire process, I didn’t have a good idea of what I wanted for my cut and color but she guided me through showing me what would give me volume and life to my flat hair. Lisa is amazing! Definitely found my new hair salon in Austin!

I gave them 5 chances, with 3 stylists; in the end, I can’t go back. Here’s my story, stylist by stylist:
McKalla: I went to McKalla and was actually really pleased with the way my hair turned out, the coloring was great and what I needed. However, I couldn’t stand listening to her. I actually had told her that I would have to work while I was there because of a fire that was going on at work. She didn’t respect that I really needed to focus and that was frustrating. When we did talk, she seemed disinterested in me and immature herself… you can tell she likes the sound of her own voice; speaking of which, she also talks in weird voices and some are actually kind of offensive… I literally had to choose between a good haircut and having to sit and listen to her for 3 hours. Gross.
Nate: Oh gosh. Where to begin. I first went to Nate and had a good experience. He touched up my color and make it a lot lighter and I really loved it! However, the following day I noticed that my roots were JUST AS BAD as they had been when I walked in (we’re talking at least 6 weeks since my last color, so pretty darn bad). I called him to fix it and two weeks later because of him not getting back to me between days, came in; it barely did anything. He told me that next time we were going to try something new to fix the problem, so I booked another appointment online, when I got there he wasn’t there and apparently their online appointment maker wasn’t working, so I had to reschedule for down the road. Same thing with communication, but on a Thursday, he texted me that he had me on the books for Friday at 5:30, which okay, I guess that works for me? Got there, no Nate. NO ONE even TALKS to me for 30 minutes (I didn’t say anything because I was okay waiting for him to get there or whatever). At 6 o’clock Nate’s father, Steven comes and sits by me and tells me that Nate didn’t show up to work. He said that Nate was a DRUG ADDICT and going through some rough times with his girlfriend, and that he hadn’t heard from him all day. WHAT??? Sorry, I can be sensitive to these kind of topics, but after what I had already been through, I told him that I needed to be seen right then or I wasn’t coming back. He then talked to the stylists and hooked me up with one. Which leads me to…
Some other stylist (Jessica? Lisa… she had purple hair): basic hair cut. She was really nice, but I was really disappointed with the color. I told her I wanted to stay light, but she darkened it with lo-​lights. My blonde was also REALLY brassy. She checked my hair twice under the heater and eventually (literally) said: «I guess we’ll just have to be a little brassier than we want». WHAT? No, fix it! Ugh. Good haircut, though.
So, WHY did I keep going back and give them so many chances? Convenience. I work five minutes away and can’t get off work before 5. They take later appointments. They’re also cheaper than others I’ve come across.
StevenTodd Salon has some great reviews, and honestly probably well deserved. However, I always felt like it was a mess over there. Something wasn’t right. Controlled chaos if you will. Maybe for some, not for me. Thanks for the stories, StevenTodd.

Oh my lordy, me and my son have been going to Jessica for about two years now! We refuse to go elsewhere. My son models and she always squeezes him in for last minute clean ups before a shoot. She is friendly and good at what she does. I usually keep my hair the same (I know, lame) but she gets it right every single time! We absolutely love Jess.

Lisa is truly incredible! Lisa really listens to her customers and does amazing all around, cut and color! I’ve never left unhappy with my hair and I’m a VERY picky! MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TODAY!

LISA Works Miracles — she is truly gifted! I have been a client of Lisa’s for 15 years and have never experienced hair regret/​remorse! Over the years I have given away 100s of her business cards to people that have stopped me and asked who is my stylist. She has transformed my hair from short short flip, the ‘Rachel’ cut, mermaid hair with extensions, and every length in between. She is masterful with scissors, indeed, but she is genius with color! I simply ask her to work her magic, knowing she knows exactly what will look best on me. She never disappoints.

To say this is a good place for great haircut is a huge understatement. I couldn’t have been more happy with my entire experience!
When I walked in I was surprised by the warm and inviting ambiance. I was cheerfully greeted by one of the stylists & instantly felt very comfortable.
I first had a hair treatment and amazing scalp massage from McKalla. Then Steven explained to me the shape of my face & the best cut for it. I had cut it myself (won’t be doing that again) & he was able to fix what I had done & I absolutely love it! He also showed me how to style it, saving me a ton of time & damage to my hair! I won’t be going anywhere else & I would wholeheartedly recommend Steven to everyone I know!

Jessica did a fantastic job. Went in to see her and wasn’t sure what I wanted done but left feeling gorgeous. I will definitely be going back to see her soon.

Thank you Jessica! I cannot express enough how happy I am with my cut, color, and overall experience. I came in with my hair so damaged that I thought I was losing it. After leaving today, I realized that there is indeed hope. My hair is in in great shape, condition, and now looks better than it has in years. My husband, who never notices anything, expressed over and over how modern I look and how much he loves it too. Thank you for taking such great care of me and helping me find the right products. I will not go to anyone else and certainly not use a box again! I will see you in six weeks!

Jessica is my girl! She has been doing my hair for about 3 years now. If your not quite sure what you want she’s really good at giving you ideas or if you know what you want she’s got you covered. I only trust her with my hair and I’m always very satisfied. She’s really sweet and very down to earth. I highly recommend Jessica;)

Michael and Lisa O’Brien are a terrific team! Michael has been my hairdresser for more than 20 years. During that time I have received many compliments on my haircut, color, and highlights and have been able to refer clients to Michael. People stop me on the street and ask who did my hair. I always look forward to seeing Michael because he cracks me up, tells outrageous stories, and remembers everything I’ve ever told him. Michael isn’t only my hairdresser – he is one of my best friends!

This review is way overdue, but McKalla is AMAZING! I have always had nice hair, but never in my life have I received more compliments than I do with the color she gave me. I’ve had other «ombré» looks before, but her work is by far the best.
She works well with my busy schedule and is super fun to talk to. If you’re looking to spice up your hair, look no further!

I have been getting my hair cut with Steven for about 8 years, and I won’t go to anyone else. He is a master with precision cuts and is the only one allowed to touch my blunt-​cut bangs. He even let’s me style my own hair before I leave so that we can make sure it looks good how I will fix it! I highly recommend him!
Nate, his son, started doing my color a couple of years ago and he is fantastic! Super fun to be around and a master with my dark color and blonde streak.

Steven is an amazing hairdresser. I had been cutting my own hair (poorly) for about six months when I just decided it was time to get it done professionally (my current hairdresser had just gotten really busy with makeup and film). I booked with Steven online. When I arrived, I decided to just let him do what he thought was best. He explained my face shape, asked a little bit about my life and lifestyle, turned me away from the mirror and gave me the cut he thought best. It is what I consider to be *the* cut that is just right for me. I can absolutely get right out of the shower, put product in, and have a cut that even the software developers I work with (this is tough if you work with sofware developers) noticed in a positive way. Its also a cut I can also have fun with should I choose to spend some time on it… it straightens beautifully, holds big curls nicely if I roll it, and is very complimentary to my face. It also grows out beautifully and as I am letting my hair get longer it looks better from day to day. It also makes me look a few years younger, which is a huge bonus.
His price is also super reasonable given his experience. Cannot recommend him enough.
