For this round of taco testing Jazzie Wonder and I went to one of my favorite local chains, Taqueria los Jalisciences. There are a few around town and I’ve loved their stuff for years now. The tacos here were about the average size that we’ve found so far, which is good but we’d both like them to be a bit bigger. The barbacoa and the al pastor were both juicy with good texture and not too much grease or fat. Both of them were mildly seasoned with good but not great flavor. The tortillas were likewise middle of the road, they did their job but didn’t stand out. The food was worth the price and satisfying but on the whole it didn’t really stand out. I give them a B– but they may have gotten an extra point from me because I’m a loyal customer. We want to thank some special guest reviewers that put up with our shenanigans; Donna Jean, Erik axle Erik Axel Brunt, and Chris Cabiya. #Tacoquest2016, #Taconnoisseurs

Enjoyed the visit. Practically vacant on a Saturday night. Good service, tiny, poquito, English. Big plates. Of course, with open borders, the obligatory futbal on the tv screen.

I really like this place. I live about 70 steps from their door and it’s only another couple hundred steps on my way to work so I frequent the taco stand where they serve tacos out of chafing dishes in the morning. Cheap and consistent. nopales and egg + bean n chz are my stand by’s. barbacoa, cebolla, y cilantro when i’m feeling gluttonous. The owners are a very nice husband/wife team, which is coincidentally the same situation as the former owners of the previous taquaria at this location, Morelia. I have one problem though… and maybe this should be a review of the patrons of the taco stand and not the establishment itself… The taco stand etiquette at this place is the worst! I swear i just waited 10 minutes for 2 pre-made tacos. I was behind 3 people. the first followed one important rule which is to purchase the tacos available from the dish. however, when they didn’t have what she wanted she walked back and forth to her suv to find out what her kinds wanted in place of the unavailable tacos. The second dude asked for about 15 tacos, 3 of which were custom and are not listed on the«tacos to go» menu board… he was on his blue tooth the whole time as well. And then the last joker ordered 6 – 8 tacos… all of the ‘ready to go’ variety… but after bagging his order he asked the owner for a F’n receipt!!! from a cash only taco stand!!! hahahahaha!!! come on people…, just walk inside if you want special treatment.

This place shares the name of several others around town. But they do not share the same owners, food, etc. Maybe they are just saving money by not changing the sign? They have the best Jalisco style mexican food or any kind of mexican food I have ever had. The Jalisco Especial #1 is my favorite. Skirt steak on top of grilled green and white onions and nopales(cactus) with avocado. Their creamy green salsa is amazing and similar to the style you will only find in hole in the wall mexican restaurants where white people seldom go.(I don’t know any other way to put it). They have lots of seafood. Ceviche, octopus, talipia, shrimp are all great. One guy ordered fish and it came out with the head still on, Yum. They also have beer and michaladas. It is decorated like a typical taqueria so don’t take any dates here. They do have a nice outdoor patio with a pond. But it was closed, maybe for the winter? I highly recommend coming and not ordering anything that you would find at the average mexican restaurant. While the tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc are also amazing, be adventurous.
