I wanted to give this venue 3 stars, but they’re trying so hard. We had a reason to come in, to see a friend’s band play. Otherwise, I really would just keep walking. From the street, it has all the normally obnoxiousness that all the stupid bars and venues on 6th Street have(cheesy lights, greasy guys sitting on stools at the entrance, taxidermy, etc.) Upon entrance, you’ll notice it’s very spacious with three bars. There were plenty of tables and bar stools for those of us not drunk enough to stand near the stage. At the bar, I ordered something they were out of so they gave us a free beer. I thought that was nice. When we sat down, all the focus turned to a very large bachelorette party. I won’t go into my personal opinions about that and their behavior was not the bar’s fault. But again, i was not drunk enough to tolerate it. So we went outside. Much better. The outdoor space is stark right now, but it could be really nice.(Management: It’s going to get cool soon, do something with this space! It’s a wise investment. Trust me). All in all, I would not come back here to just hang out. I would need another reason. It does not have the vibe of Red River, that’s for sure. But, it’s a new venue, and as I stated above, it’s obvious they’re trying. I think they’ll find their niche soon.

Love love love this place! Husband and I were in Austin for the very first time and were looking for a non sketchy place to enjoy live music(on a Thursday). We I guess were out a bit early(8ish) and this was one of the only spots that had started their live music early. The venue is HUGE with at least 3 full service bars. The bartenders were super friendly and I enjoyed that they were trying their hand at flair tending which I hadn’t seen in TX(only in Vegas). Prices were good. All of the seats were amazing. And the entertainment was KILLER! Shane Smith and the Saints was fantastic — what fun to see such an awesome band in a bar that when we got there we practically had to ourselves! I would definitely come back here next time I’m in Austin again and would highly recommend to all. I would consider subtracting a star for the bathrooms which needed to be cleaned badly(and many of the women’s toilets were clogged) BUT the rest was so great I won’t. Clean your bathrooms and you’re an A++++.

Great venue for a large crowd! I like how they have an indoor and outdoor space. Indoors for those who want to jam to loud music. Outdoors for old bats like me who want to hear what others are saying… or play Gigantic Jenga. 1 star off: I ordered a mojito, and they didn’t have lime leaves. That is weird… mojito is a pretty common drink.

NO. I came here with two friends for my birthday weekend, and I’m ready to have a blast. We walked in, danced to the song that was playing, then went for drinks when the song was over. The bartender just IGNORED us completely. These incredibly drunk guys walked up to the bar – one even half pushed me aside – and she just looked right at them and asked what they needed. One of my friends is here from Europe, and I wanted to show her why I love Austin so much, but this was not the place to do it. I love Austin, I really do, which is why I drive there from Houston whenever I can. But Stage didn’t do it for me at all. And I won’t come back.

This place is surprisingly large, and great for larger groups. Pretty awesome to play cornhole with friends while in a bar on 6th. There is usually some good talent playing as well, typically rock/country type groups.

The Stage on Sixth is definitely a very nice venue. Here on a busy-ish Saturday night. The bar is divided into three areas… a very busy area with the stage, a less busy area with tables and a bar(great for getting a drink without fighting the crowd in the main area), and an outdoor area with bean bags and another small bar(plus a grassy area with no clear purpose). I guess the venue should get 5 stars… nice layout, plenty of room for a crowd, clean, and a great sound system. The reason I’m giving it 3 stars is that the band was a solid meh for such a nice place. They played run-of-the-mill classic rock covers, and, with all the great bands around, weren’t worth sticking around for.

Normally we have a good time here. But we went on a certain night(must have been college night). The place was full of snobby college kids. Yuck. So we didn’t stick around. We’ve been on other nights and the live music is pretty decent.

I wandered here on Thursday night, after a happy hour turned into an even happier night out. The place was nearly empty, but I could tell that it would be fantastic, even if it had been a Friday/Saturday night. They had a live band, which was surprisingly good, even though I hate country music. There was a shortage of men-folk, but I was compelled to dance! Thankfully, there was a doorman who was willing to humor me with a quick dance. They have a great back patio area that was more like hanging out on a friend’s deck in their backyard. I had a great time, and I would not be opposed to being dragged in here again!

This was our first stop of 6th St. so I might be biased, but I had lots of fun here! They have a live band which you can hear from all the way across the street(I think that’s how I got suckered in). And they get the crowd pretty riled up. My favorite part must be the outdoor area. They have super jenga and bean bag toss set up for your entertainment needs.

6th’s place to party & rockin’ live country music Texas & Nashville-style. Probably new most talented rising stars are featured here… but dunno, since I don’t follow this style music much. Since I play guitar, I did still enjoy the music. Hit the dance floor & two-step the night away, or do what I did and just relax on the patio sucking down brewskiiiies.

I LOVED the live music here last Saturday-saw the Space Rockers, and their music is SO much better live than their videos I had seen online! The place wasn’t too crowded, but it was nice, and not too loud. However, good luck getting served here-I had to beg just to get service for a beer.

Great bar for live music and with a small capacity, there’s a chance to see something pretty special here with whatever act is playing. In my case, it was Jack White at SXSW — an unforgettable experience!

This place isn’t your run of the mill country bar. The Stage on Sixth is the Austin rendition of the Stage on Broadway in Nashville. The Stage is a huge venue, with a large outdoor patio in back. The music can range from Rock, Pop and of course Country, usually from the same band! There is no cover, but drinks are a bit pricey. There is often some drink special though. The dance floor is a bit odd, not the best for two-stepping but it is large. We always try to make it to the Stage when The Martin McDaniel Band is booked. The Stage on Sixth is always a good time, we have never been disappointed.

I was on vacation in Austin for New Years, and all told I had a pretty delightful time, despite the really quite large number of typical party people that everyone hates to see(if you don’t know what I’m talking about, then you need to go to a bar meant for young people on a weekend). My group and I spent most of our night at the Stage, due to the low cover and the redneck-quality of my friends(they own it, it’s fine). The band was absolutely amazing. High quality funk covers switched at midnight to a fairly impressive range of modern pop/hip-hop(which is particularly amazing for a four piece cover band that didn’t appear to have any dj-bizniz). The Stage as a venue was pretty solid. Drinks were above average price, the place wasn’t too crowded, and the bartenders were quick-ish. Regardless, nothing here really stood out as amazing or terrible(besides the band, which was only partially the Stage’s doing, really). I don’t want to downvote it, but it’s pretty standard bar fare, just in a really large building.

The Stage has such high potential to be a hot spot for live music downtown, especially on 6th street. The whole building in HUGE! They have a large dance floor and a full on bar. Their outside space is just as large as the inside and its private. You do not walk outside to another bar right ontop of where your out and you do get a feel of privacy. Though they seem as if they would just be a country bar they have played some rock and blues. The several bands that I have had the chance to see were great. A lot of them played their own music and did cover songs. The drinks were decently priced and strong. The service was outstanding. The bartenders I’ve had were down to Earth and just seemed to enjoy the conversation through the breaks of the bank. The Stage(like I said) has such a huge potential factor to be fantastic! I can not wait to see what they have during SXSW!

The Stage located in Nashville, TN is a very popular place, right in the center of activity on the famed Broadway street. There are long lines to get in on weekends. Ironically I was walking down 6th Street recently with a friend from Nashville and we walked by The Stage in Austin. It was her first visit to Austin and 6th Street and we had just rounded the corner and came across the newly opened The Stage. We both did a double-take. «Is this is the same ‘The Stage’ as in Nashville?» I asked the bouncer and he said yes. Too funny. On a street famed for its crammed bars in tight spaces The Stage on Sixth has a ton of room. This includes both the inside and the massive outdoor patio out back that is big enough to line dance in. Because it is newly constructed you will find it to be very clean. They don’t just play country music but I still think of it as more a country bar. They have good drink specials and more than one bar(goes back to the roomy factor). The vibe of The Stage on Sixth is different than the one in Nashville though not in a bad way. I think it has a lot of potential and I will be interested to see what role it will play in the coming years in regards to what kinds of bands that will grace their stage and what kind of crowds will show up. It is definitely worth checking out.

If anyone was around when this place was BOURBONROCKS! remembers that this location is awesome. It’s on the edge of 6th street so if you make it here you actually want to be here. I missed bourbon rocks so much when it closed because the drinks were cheap and they had live music and so much room to dance. Well The Stage on Sixth, took everything that made the old spot good and actually improved it. How? The designated stage area, is huge. They got rid of the stupid different levels and made it all flat. There are a few tables with bar stools but mainly it’s just a giant dance floor. The house band that was there the night I came was very entertaining, good mix of 80s, 90s, and current hits. Drinks were still cheap and strong. I started my night out here, ended up somewhere else, but should have just stayed here. It’s very clean and actually draws a bit older crowd.

Not just a country bar. Heard some blues and a little rock n roll as well. Lots of room and a big dance floor. My favorite on 6th St.

Great band on Fridays, good prices for beer, and the staff is so friendly! So awesome to have a huge country bar on 6th street. The only thing that was lacking was dancing… not a great place to two step, but the bar itself is a lot of fun!
