Troubadour Saloon

The only time I come to this bar is when it’s SXSW.
We’ve played this place a couple times. I know that the people working there, like running the showcases don’t actually work there normally but they sure are nice.
The bartenders there are really nice too. The door guy could be a little less of a tool, but he’s got power so what are you gonna do.
The two missing stars are for their bathrooms, holy sucky! Come on fix them!

Most bars in Austin have a credit card minimum… so I am not suprised by this… The one thing that can be sometimes hard to stomach is the fact that you pay a cover… I can deal with this, especially when there is a great band playing. I also need to let it be known, that although this is a small little hole in the wall place, they do their damnedest to get some bigger names in the door.
While you are here, make SURE you have one of the Ryan Margarita specials… he takes the time to squeeze the right amount of lime in all of his margaritas… and they are EXCELLENT.
If you walk by and hear a great band playing, head on it… the money raised at the door goes to the bands… have a margarita and tell them Cheyne (Shane) sent you…

In their Myspace «Who I’d like to meet,» they say: Friendly Folks/​Bands who want to jam… And those they make dance.
Quite often, those who want to meet friendly folks are friendly themselves. The staff at Troubadour’s is one of the friendliest I’ve met. The first time I went there, I didn’t quite know what to make of it — if it’s on 6^th Street, I almost automatically have a bias against it.
But when we were there last night, I got a clear sense of the place: they are genuine, down-​to-​earth, don’t attract a certain «type» (at one point, the ages seemed to range from 20s to 50s), and they appreciate the musicians who play on their stage.
Ryan is a great booker, their soundman (can’t remember his name) knows how to set the levels right (I especially pay attention to the sound levels when my boyfriend is playing on stage!), and the rest of the staff is just plain friendly.
They are all a bit on the wacky side, too, so they can be pretty funny! The door man likes to yell silly things to the passersby. Don’t take any of it personally, though.
