What a great place. It’s like stepping back in time. I brought in my antique lamp. They rewired it so I wouldn’t electrocute myself or burn down the house. Also new socket and harp. Was ready the next day. Very reasonably priced and the gentleman that helped me was too sweet for words.

Neil and his team are amazing! I had a chandelier that needed some delicate repair. It was done beautifully, and they were very kind in packing it so I could get it home. It looks stunning. Thanks so much!

my wife brought a lamp in for repair. She explained that I had installed a new switch and I could tell power was reaching the socket, but the lamp wouldn’t work. I could see how I might get a switch wrong, who knows. Of course the folks at Tipler talked down to her and made her feel terrible, but she left the lamp anyway.
She picked it up and was told the switch was installed wrong. Strange, but ok. Of course the lamp didn’t work when we got it home. We bought the exact bulb the manufacturer recommended. exactly. I tested the lamp and power was still getting to the bulb socket, but it wouldn’t come on. I brought it back this time to avoid interacting with Tipler employees. I spoke with a nice woman, explained what was going on and she agreed to talk to the tech. Probably worth mentioning that the lamp is a large floor lamp that weighs a good 40 – 50 pounds.
My wife picked it up and the same thing happened — treated rudely, told we were using the wrong bulb, talked down to — that seems to be Tipler policy. At least the lamp was working? no — of course not.

They repaired a red satin oak leaf glass lamp and helped us select the perfect shades for it and a celadon ginger jar lamp. Today, they gave us advice on creating the perfect lamp shades for our elephant lamps.

I have a standing lamp that I bought at Target about 10 years ago, but during a move, the turn switch was bent. It’s not a fancy lamp, but I really like it and didn’t want to have to look for a new one. I brought it to Tipler’s hoping they could save it. Not only were they able to quickly repair the switch while I waited, but the fee was very reasonable – much cheaper than a new lamp. Extremely happy with the service!

My young daughter and I visited Tipler’s for the first time today to have our lamp repaired. A repairperson took a quick look at the damage, removed the socket, went in back briefly with the part, returned and inserted back into the lamp, and voila! the lamp was fixed. I asked him for the charge and he declined. Very nice. Another positive note, usually a store filled with pricey charming restored lamps and lighting fixtures bristles at the sight of a little kid, but the older gentleman who works there took time to show my daughter all of the unique lamps created out of cameras, violins, and model cars. She left the store saying how nice everyone was and wanted to visit again. We will definitely be back.

Thought this was going to be a great resource for help and getting parts for a pendant lamp I’m trying to construct. Well if you don’t know everything about lamps or you have an original idea, don’t expect to have a meaningful conversation or get good help. I’ve been there three times now and I’ve been treated like an idiot each time. Shame on me I guess for continued returns. It’s a lamp shop, you’re not curing disease. Customer service and an open mind wouldn’t kill you.

I have an antique lamp from the 1920’s that I absolutely love. Mr Tippler loves lamps too. It shows in his interest in your cherished items. He is very knowledgeable and he cares about your treasured lamps. He took the time to tell me what he needed to do and when he told me about part of my lamp that was not fixable he showed me a part that could be used as an option that would not depreciate my lamp. I got my lamp back in just a few short days and it was not only good as new but what he charged me was more than a fair price. As an interior designer I will definitely recommend Tipler’s to my clients.

I took four old lamps here to be repaired and they did an excellent, old-​world job on three of them. The fourth, my most cherished, they said they could not find similar glass for the replacement shade, and so could not restore it to same condition. He really, really seemed to know his business. It’s just hard to believe that in all the world, with all the globalization and shipping options, not to mention custom glass work, there wasn’t some recommendation or option or referral he could think of for me, and that made me sad. I love this lamp enough to pay for custom glass work, if I knew where to go or whom to ask. I will probably take it to LA on my next visit there and see if I can find a solution. I was still very satisfied with my visit to Tipler’s for basic lamp repair; they are clearly upstanding and skilled. Probably even with complex repair; just not hard-​to-​find glass, in my case, at least. Incidentally, they don’t seem to restore. Just repair. I have an old doctor’s room standing lamp they did a great job repairing, but I mentioned cleaning and restoration, and I did not see evidence of such being done. Nonetheless, I was satisfied with the price.
And he is is a very handsome sort of man; I loved his attractive, foreign air of deep and mysterious lamp knowledge, paired with an accented soft-​spoken, gentle moving manner. That made the visit almost an adventure.

I found out about this place by googling lamp repair stores. I highly recommend going here! First, they have their own parking which can be a nightmare anywhere downtown! The man that helped me was so kind and helpful! It was quick and my old lamps I’ve had for years work again. Very pleased!

Well, after being in Austin for lo these many years, I have the good fortune to have built up a stable of workrooms that can provide just about any service that my business requires.
My wife recently commented that almost every lamp in our home was either restored by Tipler’s, designed by Tipler’s or purchased at Tipler’s. Neil Tipler at Tipler’s Lamp Shop has always come through for me, without fail.
Over the years, Tiplers has literally turned my boxes of rusting horribleness into beautiful, glowing light sources. From an 1850s Wedgwood vase with a broken rim that they expertly ground down and created into a stunningly beautiful lamp, to taking a hand-​carved artist creation and handcrafting the needed wooden accents to turn it into a show-​stopping piece of lighting, Tipler’s can do anything.
Now, listen closely my friends, the old adage of «You get what you pay for» is the thing to remember when using Tipler’s. If you want the VERY best job by the VERY best craftsmen, you will pay for it. To put it plainly, Tipler’s ain’t cheap. But then the finished product is always a demonstration of exactly why they are not. The service you receive and the quality of the job they do has always more than justified their pricing for me. They have completed several dozen jobs for me personally as well as jobs for my clients.
If you just want to jam a replacement cord from Lowe’s up your grandma’s old lamp and call it a day, then Tipler’s is probably not for you. But if you want a lamp that will make those who see it exclaim ‘Holy crap that’s the coolest lamp I have ever seen!” you need to use Tipler’s.
As always, I must state I only give five stars where I completely endorse the product or services the business provides. Tipler’s gets my highest recommendation.

Both of the lamps in our master bedroom had broken knobs (the plastic sheared off and you couldn’t turn them!) Needless to say, it was annoying to have to read by flashlight before going to bed.
I took both of the lamps to Tipler’s and they replaced the knobs as I waited (took about 5 minutes).
Best part? They did it for free :)

My mom had this lamp that she made in college and I inherited it and wanted to get a new lamp shade for it. I heard Tipler’s the place so I brought it in, they tossed the old lamp shade and I ordered a new one; picked out the fabric and size. Gave them my credit card number and they told me it would be about a month before they’d have it made and ready to pick up. I said that would be fine and waited. Never to hear from them again. I called about 40 days after and they had no record of me ever coming in. I did buy a lampshade for another lamp of mine, that they had available but the custom one fell through the cracks. I was so disappointed being that they tossed the old one and now I had no way of knowing the previous measurements. Lamp shades are pricey as it was going to be about $ 140 for the shade and so they lost my business on their own accord. I just couldn’t bring myself to go in again and try one more time… it just wasn’t worth it.

This is a review for their repair service. In less than 10 minutes a busted lamp was fixed for $ 20 at Tipler’s while I waited. It would have taken less time, but they only have one phone line so I had to wait while someone finished up a call. When I walked in, there were two other customers yet I had service in seconds. I’d love to afford some of the antique lamps they had in the showroom, but for now, I’ll settle for excellent service.

Just got back from Tipler’s. Sarah M is absolutely right about the setting. I am just excited to find someone to repair a very expensive and very delicate chandelier that we had taken down recently. We plan to repair the light kit and extend it by about 3 feet. Neil was very helpful, saw no problem with doing the job, and informed me that he «hasn’t failed one lamp yet.» I can’t wait to get this chandelier back up, which will be in about three weeks. I will re-​review when the bill comes in and see if I still like Tipler’s.
