Troy is the epitome of a hole in the wall restaurant. I definitely would never have come across it if it weren’t for Unilocal and boy would I be missing out if that were the case. Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you; once you step inside, you’ll experience everything that you’ve come to love about family run restaurants. My meal started out with some complimentary turkish hot tea that just hit the spot. Although it is complimentary, I did have to request it. Nonetheless, it was simple yet delicious. For my meal, I decided to go with the mixed plate because I wanted to sample a variety of meats. It comes with kofte kebab, beef doner, and chicken tantuni served over a bed of rice and a side salad. They don’t specify what type of meat the kobte kebab is, but it is definitely the most flavorful of the three meats. The two mini patties were succulent and packed with spices. The beef doner reminded me of a lighter spiced beef shawarma. It was good, but did not stand out. The chicken tantuni was unique to my palate so it took me a few bites to realize I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a subtle spicy factor to it from the peppers cooked in, but it is not overwhelming. With each bite I took, I became a bigger fan of the chicken tantuni. The meal ended with a complimentary dessert called tavuk gogsu. From a quick google search I have found out that it is a milk pudding like dessert made with chicken that is flavored with vanilla and cinnamon. Don’t let the chicken part scare you away! It tastes nothing like chicken. I wouldn’t have known it had meat in it had I not done a quick google search. To me the dessert was just average; I would have preferred something a bit sweeter. Overall, I definitely recommend Troy. I had a great experience and I love the that I got an all-around taste of Turkish cuisine for the modest price of $ 13.

We love it. I brought my husband here once and he is selective about what he eats. A little hesitant at first, but he was open to trying it out with me. The Iskender is now his favorite and he was craving it this week. I like the mixed plate to try a little of everything Kefta, Doner and Chicken. Today we brought the kids there and our little one that is selective like my husband, liked everything we ordered. Score! The best part about it was I ordered a Turkish dish that was not on the menu and because I’m pregnant, the owner said she would do it for me. Awe! So sweet. Highly recommend. Be prepared for it to be a little warm inside. I noticed it both times.

This family run Turkish restaurant is the delicious, real deal. Excellent, absolutely fresh, good portions, and in a surprisingly cute on the inside corner spot of an otherwise dumpy gas station mini-strip mall. You know when you try someone’s food, and it just stands out because they have that silver palate for seasoning thing perfectly, and the knowledge for cooking it well? The food at this place is like that. Simple, fresh, perfectly delicious homemade Turkish food. It is wonderful. We had the lamb Kavurma plate, beef doner plate, the Turkish-style grilled chicken wraps, and we started with the Havuc Tarama dip which they serve with warm fresh soft pita. It was all so really, really good. In order of my being my favorite: it would go lamb, chicken, and then the beef. Try this place! They are something special. I’d satin is especially perfect for lunch.

It is 5PM on a Thursday and I decided to try something different. So Troy was my something different. I was alone in the restaurant when I entered. I asked what was popular and pointed to the beef doner. The gentleman described a dish that had tomatoes, yogurt, pita bread, sauce and butter. I thought it was going to be a fancy wrap of some sort. Hearing him run the microwave should have been a clue to leave. However I am here to try something different so I stayed. A plate was presented with stew looking stuff in the middle boarded by rice and yogurt. It was lukewarm with a milder flavor than I expected. It was the beef iskander. I called the woman over and asked if it was fresh and she recited the ingredients. Someone came in for take out of about 5 items and they used the stove, so his was likely fresh. So for this trip I got out for $ 16.50 including a $ 1 tip. If I come back, I will make sure it is cooked fresh Oh, there goes the microwave again for the last part of his takeout.

We tried this place out because of its Unilocal review, and I was wowed by the deliciousness of Troy. While parking was especially limited, the food was beyond my expectation. Get the grilled chicken and you will not regret it. Usually grilled chicken can be dry and dusty, but Troy made it well spiced and unusually juicy. After dinner, I was unexpected surprised with tea and dessert. The warmth of the tea complemented the cinnamon rice based cake we received. I was pleasantly surprised a small place next to a gas station packed such a great dinner. I will be returning for more grilled chicken.

My daughter and I ate at this cute little Turkish restaurant yesterday. She got the shaved beef salad and I had the chicken tintuni(?) plate. Both came with hot tea and a dessert. The food was simple and tasty.

Expensive! For a restaurant that has view of gas station… Not much flavor and not your typical turkish place.

My friend and I read great reviews abut this place and let me say that the reviews did not sell this place short. The Turkish couple who own the restaurant are so sweet and hospitable. The atmosphere is really comfortable and inviting. This restaurant is definitely what people would consider a «hole in the wall» and a superb find! My friend and I both ordered the mixed plate, it’s worth it! If you honestly want to try a little bit of everything, get this! The plate features three meats(crushed meatball, chicken and lamb) over rice with a small salad on the side, Turkish tea and dessert. They also have a very refreshing yogurt drink(served cold) that’s just a little tart, but it compliments the food. Ah! Just eat here, it’s delicious and worth it!

My Mixed Plate is so tasty! My husband liked the taste very much. It is kinda oily but it taste good so I don’t care about the oil anymore. The plate comes with rice so the Asian in me got so happy about it. The desert is different but it is good too — like a flan but made in different way. The SERVER is wonderful and awesome! It is a little slow because he is the only server this day and time BUT because he is wonderful — 5 Stars for yall!

This is quite the little Turkish café that offers quality, family-style service. Our waiter was patient and attentive as we were their guests. I had the Kisir salad, which is a tremendous scoop of boulgar salad that has the refreshing taste similar to a tabouli salad. It was light and delicious, served on a bed of chopped lettuce. I was satisfied with it being my dinner. The hummus and pita were fresh and homemade. The pita was airy and soft, and the hummus was aromatic in chickpeas and spices. We had two orders of hummus. As for dessert, we had a delicate pudding called Muhallebi. It was served in a nice, square portion enough for two people. It tasted like a gelatinized rice pudding with sprinkled cinnamon on top. I can surely go for another round of it. Parking: I think it’s important to mention how limited the parking space is. Since Troy shares a small shopping strip with a gas station, there isn’t an actual lot to park in. Rather, the only parking spots are aligned in front of the actual businesses. It took me 10 minutes in my car waiting for someone to leave their spot. It helps to car pool.

I’m glad to have Troy in our neighborhood and always support local businesses. I wasn’t particularly thrilled with our recent lunch there, however. It was the first time we’ve been since it was remodeled. There were a couple of other parties there when we went around 2:00 on a Saturday. The main difference I noticed is fresh paint and the ordering counter moved to the end of the restaurant near the kitchen. They also now take your order at your table rather than you ordering at the counter. The table service was my main source of disappointment. We were seated and offered drinks, which came out fairly quickly. Then it was almost 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. The restaurant wasn’t busy so I wasn’t sure what was keeping our waiter occupied. We ordered hummus to start. I ordered chicken tantuni on a salad. My wife ordered the beef doner in a wrap. The hummus was unremarkable. It was served with pita, which also wasn’t anything special. The chicken tantuni was nicely seasoned and they give you a good serving. I was surprised that the salad was just a bed of greens. I should have asked but expected to see onion, tomato or other salad fixings and perhaps a salad dressing. It was just plain lettuce so kind of underwhelming. My wife liked her beef doner wrap. The beef is cooked on a spit, like the meat for a gyro, but has different seasonings. Back to the service. We noticed that our waiter apparently finished his shift and left the restaurant right after taking our order. Aside from when another person brought our food, nobody checked on us again until we were finished with our food. Our drinks, which are served in fairly small glasses, had been empty a long time. When the waiter did come back, it was to bring our check. My wife had to ask for some more tea. As I said, I like having small restaurants like Troy in our neighborhood. As is clear from other Unilocal reviews, a lot of people like it. The food is decent. The people generally friendly. I’ll probably go back to support the business and try other items. I just hope that the service is much better or I won’t return often.

This was quite the treat. I was shopping before Thanksgiving with my wife and we decided to try it out for lunch. We almost missed the place. The parking is TINY. When you get to the corner of the two roads and you see the Valero gas station, go right in there. It is in the same parking lot. In fact, it is so small of a lot that everyone starts cramming into random locations. The owners seriously should think of just marking lines to make it easier for all. It’s likely that they will get more customers. If the parking looks full, don’t worry — they probably have space for you. Inside it is smallish in a nice intimate way. Almost all the seats are designed«family style». In fact there’s a 30 person table running thru the center of the restaurant. Can’t find a spot? Just slide on in with the rest of the folks. For lunch, I had the Turkish Style Grilled Chicken Turkey wrap. It was fantastic. The pita bread seemed to be hand made. It was certainly warmed up beforehand. The chicken and spices made me feel like I was in a foreign land enjoying myself. No sides, so consider that. I thought it would be accompanied by something. Wasn’t. My wife got the beef doner wrap. It was like a gyro, but with beef and no sauce. It was an instant hit. Again, awesome pita and no sides. That was fine, as I wasn’t too starved. We had trouble getting out. The waiter was too busy with the credit card machine that was having a fit. So, no refills on fluids and very slow at the end. I don’t hold him to the problem — likely all the pre-sales crushing the Visa network. Leaving there were a ton of trucks & cars in random arrangement. I felt sorry for the gas station and it was tough weaving to get out. Did I mention they should draw some parking lines in that tiny lot? I only wish I worked next door. I would be there almost every week.

Well this place is a winner! A simple menu, a pretty basic location and silly low prices took us right back to eating street food on happy trips to Istanbul. It’s not out of this world special but the staff are speedy and truly charming, the casual family atmosphere feels like you’re sitting in someone’s kitchen and the food is delicious, well flavoured and authentic. We love it. We’ll be back for sure!

I finally made out here with my family and I was happy I did, because the food and service was excellent. I always saw the ad in the community Impact newspaper. Sometimes there’s an ad in there with a buy one entrée get the second half off. We were greeted immediately, the menu is pretty simple which is good makes ordering faster, because there’s aren’t a million options. I went with the Beef Iskender, which consists of great tasting white rice, yogurt, and well seasoned beef with a tomato sauce,(not like the kind you find in Italian cuisine). The portion size is above average. Your meal includes tea hot or cold, your entrée, and dessert all for around $ 11 average price I’d say. The muhallebi was great it’s a diary style dessert, similar to flan. The entrée was absolutely delicious my meat was very tender and enjoyable. My meal came in less than 10 minutes. I was there around lunch time on a Saturday and there were a few patrons dining. The service was really good. Orhan was my server, and happens to be on of the owners as well. He was very patient and understanding since I had my twin toddlers with me. He also wanted to ensure we enjoyed our food even if it would have been at his expense. Fortunately there was no need for that. My meal was superb. I’m looking forward to returning and spreading the word at work, since my co workers are always up for great tasting quality food and excellent service as well always helps. Troy is off the beaten path in the Valero gas station at Mesa Dr. And Spicewood Springs. Parking is ample however if Troy is packed it will be tight. The ambience is very cozy and relaxing. I also liked the décor on the inside. Thanks to Orhan for this Turkish cuisine restaurant. He also let me know they have live music on Thursday nights and BYOB! I’m not an expert but the food is great quality and I haven’t had this type off food since I lived in New York city. Now I am curious to find out if they have Turkish Delights…

This is my kind of place. A hole in the wall in a small strip mall with limited parking. Décor is minimal but their focus is on the food. Their menu is simple. Choose: Wrap, salad, or plate Choose: Kofte Kabab, Beef Doner, Chicken Tantuni, Grill Chicken, Beef Iskender, Beef meatballs, Seasoned Beef, Diced Breast You are done. I chose the Iskender plate. It comes with seasoned rice, diced toasted pita covered in Beef doner slices, topped with a tomato sauce and finished at the table with a drizzle of melted butter. There was a huge dollop of yogurt on the side. The plate also comes with free Turkish tea and to end the meal, a Turkish dessert pudding(Tavukgogsu). You order at the counter than find a seat. They have a large communal table in the center with 2 or 4 person tables to the side. Yes, that empty space in the corner is for live music. There were two ladies in the kitchen cooking like there was no tomorrow. Two gentlemen manned the front section. Both of these men were smiling constantly, genuine smiles. The Turkish tea is brought to your table and the waiting begins. Since all the food is cooked after you order it, it does take a while to prepare. It took about twenty minutes and my plate was ready. First bite is the rice, perfectly seasoned. I know it is only butter and salt but bland rice is not worth eating. Next fork is a combo of a piece of pita, beef and tomato sauce. Wonderful flavors. The slight crunch of the pita, a beautiful char on the doner, and the tomato sauce added to the doner taste. I finished my entire plate. We were served another cup of tea while we waited for dessert. After waiting for 10 minutes, we decide to leave. That is when we were sent back to our seats for the desserts. They delivered what looked like a white flan. A spoon full told me this was a milk pudding. Almost a rice pudding without the rice. Not too sweet nor fatty. The price per person was about $ 10.00 each. The reason for only 4 stars is the inconsistency. I believe my plate was to come with a salad. It didn’t. The delay after we finished to get our dessert. It wasn’t crowded but there was constant running back to the kitchen because they forgot something

Before I kick off this three star, it’s important to write a disclaimer: The food is really good, the people are really nice, the spot is adorable. A three star(IMHO) is a positive review. It’s «everything is as it should be» and«I’ll most likely return.» I’ve been reading all these incredible reviews about Troy and on a sunny Saturday, I was happy to get the opportunity to try this sweet little spot. Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, quite near a gas station, is a unique addition to Austin’s food scene. It’s about half community seating, half individual tables but the restaurant is small so you may want to call ahead and make sure they don’t have a wait. We sat at the community table near two families(both of whom had a spilling incident of course.) I highly recommend the Beef Iskender if you’re choosing a beef dish. It comes with a giant dollop of yogurt. Like more than you could ever eat unless you are a yogurt fiend. And you know, maybe you are. We also ordered the three meat dish and were warned that it might take 20 minutes. It was actually 40 minutes which is pretty different. The doner beef on the three meat place was definitely less inspired than that from the Beef Iskender, even though I have to assume they’re from the same spindle. The chicken had great flavor but was kind of sparse and the two tasty meatballs were a little spicy and herby… but teeny. Both dishes came with rice that was uninspired and uninspiring. The reason for a three star I suppose is that it was half great: beef iskender, the opp to try something new, the flavorful meat, the cute spot… and half meh: the rice, the meat vs. rice vs. yogurt portion, the wait and the prices. Our total was about $ 30 and that seems on the higher end for a lunch date. Next time I’m back, I’ll try the hummus, the kisir salad and try and hit it on a night with sweet tunes.
