At first glance, it looks like a hoarder’s paradise. Records stacked on records. The guy who owns it is nice, and he is very pleasant and knowledgeable. He will make recommendations if he doesn’t have exactly what you’re looking for. Some of his records aren’t in the best condition(mostly the sleeves). And he will try to up sell his Tejano record collection, unless that’s what you’re into.

Didn’t buy anything at this establishment we were actually leaving the restaurant across the street. The record shop is definitely a throwback vintage record shop. They had all sorts of genres of music in in vinyl and cassette form as well I believe. They were selling some cool vintage shirts on the outside which is why we stopped by. This is definitely a place for people that are looking for that classic retro kind of record shop.

I found this place to be a pleasant little gem. It is little! They are only open 3 hours a day on weekdays. This messed me up the first time I tried to visit, but I came back the next day. When I came in the guy was talking to somebody about turntables(he’s your man if you have a question). He immediately apologized for much of the selection being still unpacked in stacked bins. It looks like he’s still setting up this store(perhaps it’s always like this?), so give him a chance in the meantime. I got two steals and will come back next time I’m in Austin!

If you have vinyl running through your veins, this is the place to go. I kinda feel like this is the most overlooked of all the record shops in Austin. These guys know their stuff. Not only do they know about records, and pressings and availability… they also know about the turntable itself. This is very rare at most record stores nowadays. The selection is not as big as others, but it is quality and if you talk with the man working, 9 times out of ten you will get a discount. The records in this shop aren’t a bunch of knock arounds, they are all good records that someone wants. If I had a special request and wanted someone to keep an eye out for a certain record, this is where I would come. These people like their jobs and want to help. I’m a fan.

Strolling down South First with my special man friend this weekend during the Art walk and we journeyed into this joint. Let me say, I like the service I got at this place as the gentleman working was very helpful and knowledgeable. I am interested in building a vinyl collection with some old jazz/r&b standards like Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, etc… Also, I want a turntable and this place was very helpful in helping me determine what type/brand of turntable I should get and price points. I plan on coming back to this place based on the level of service and knowledge, as we were completely ignored at End of a Ear.

Turntable Records has returned to south first street! Locally owned record store, friendly staff and a solid selection for those of you who require or prefer physical media. Smaller selection than end of an ear, but give them a shot… they’re still getting set up, so pop in and say hello!
