U-Haul – University Texas

The staff were extremely unhelpful. First, we tried to drop our equipment off in the drop off area indicated by the signs. The signs also said that an employee would be out to help us. After waiting a while for someone to show up, I walked in to see if someone could help. Even though I was being polite, they immediately became aggressive and made it clear they didn’t want to help. They had me move the equipment around in their lot and then decided they wouldn’t accept the equipment because it’s supposed to go to a different location.

Only one employee is good for this company, all the rest of this staff are so rude and disrespect, my problem is: this location is on my way to Restuarent depot and will be the best to have some propane from here, it’s not the first time for me to deal with the his location, many of times, but it always like this… hopefully their company will do something for these employees… but keep only one of them (I don’t know his name) …

Be aware. Make sure you stick around when they give you your final price after returning the uhaul. They told me I could trust them and I should leave, but then they misreported my mileage by 20 miles ! At .99 /​mile that’s quite a mess up. Pretty shady business

Best UHAUL experience I’ve ever had. I was helped by a funny nice guy with a beard, who had sweet tats. He was really helpful, checked me out an had me on my way in no time. Will definitely be coming back.

Terrible experience. Picking up the truck was fine and dandy. I rented my truck for 3 hours ($ 19.95+milage) and was charge for 4 days. Getting my money refunded was like pulling teeth. I was told that the GM would call me that day, and as the day ended I had received no call. I then talked to 3 more people to try to get the situation resolved, but to no avail. The next day they did refund me some money, the incorrect amount. When I called customer service back, they told me they had refunded the correct and that I was wrong. Try and use another moving company if you can. This place was a nightmare.

No issues here at all: easy in-​out and business as usual for a Saturday mid-​day rental. There was a little bit of a line but they were on top of their service and we got through relatively quickly. The customer service was just fine for my liking, and the pricing was what I expected considering the taxes and mileage fees. I rented a pick-​up truck for a few hours and it was in great condition and drove well. I made sure to put in 2 gallons after going my 30 miles and had no issues with them over gas, though the gauge did read slightly over ½ and I was to bring it back with ½. I might have over-​filled, but the extra $ 3 in gas is worth knowing that I won’t end up being charged for not filling it!

Deanna was patient, professional, and genuinely sweet (hope that’s her name — it’s what my receipt said). She even helped me carry boxes and supplies out to my car. Glad I didn’t have to deal with the horrible a-​hole guy I read about in the other reviews. Hopefully he got replaced because the ladies who helped me yesterday were too nice!

If I could give zero stars, I would. U-​Haul just lost a customer in me. I am so disappointed in their customer service at this location. The men (not gentle in any manner) at this location are borderline rude & could care less about the customer. Their personal conversations between themselves are inappropriate in front of customers.
My biggest gripe? I used less than a gallon of gas, dropped the truck of at the after hours & left the key. I was charged $ 36.00 for less than a gallon of gas. Unbelievable. That $ 36.00 cost more than the day rate of $ 29.95 to rent the truck! Even car rental companies NEVER CHARGE THAT MUCH. I’m ready to report them to the BBB of Austin I’m so mad!

Why do they even have the Propane service at this location?! They are ALWAYS OUT Been here 5 times and out of those I was only able to full up once. I think it’s easier for the guy behind the counter to say «we’re sold out» rather than actually doing his job. Worst location ever. Go to the burnet location for better service.

I had to go back and check the map to make sure I had the right location. Nothing in my experience matched the dismal reviews herein. My cargo van rental was swift and painless, and, when I returned the vehicle, the «Best Rate Guarantee» saved me over fifty bucks. The van was not pristine, but it was as muscular as advertised, and hauled every bit as much as I’d imagined. It’s worth noting that a homeless guy before me in line was buying some hitch grease (for ?) – a 45 cent purchase– and presented as disorganized and disheveled. The rental agent treated the man before him with patience and respect. So, I did not experience the pirates described below, but a U-​Haul outlet reliably dispensing propane, rental trucks, and basic decency.

DO NOT USE THIS LOCATION. The general manager, Jason, is surly, intimidating, and down right nasty to his customers. I went to return my U-​Haul at 3pm without realizing that I was supposed to return it a 9:30am. A simple mistake. He tried to charge me $ 40 extra for returning it late. He refused to waive the fee even though it was an honest mistake. I got on the phone with customer service at U-​Haul who said it would be no problem at all to waive the fee, he still wouldn’t do it. He had me in tears. I got back on the phone with UHaul and they advised me to return the truck at the Burnet Road location. I did so, and the staff there were wonderful-​took back my truck no questions asked.
Seriously guys-​if you’re returning a UHaul in Austin, go to the Burnet Road location unless you’re in the mood to be intimidated by a surly thug.

Horrible service. If I could give zero stars, this place would earn it. I reserved a truck for 7am. The ass (manager) was out back and still had the doors locked. No apology given. The next day… well you can guess what happened. Same story.
Unfriendly, expensive, and generally a horrible experience. I sent a complaint in and nothing happened. Nothing.

This is actually the «University of Texas» location, if anyone was confused about it saying «Cherrywood.»
This U-​haul was possibly one of the most stressful experiences of my life. I reserved a 14′ truck A MONTH in advance so that there wouldn’t be any problems getting the truck I requested on the day of my move. I also did the «early check in» online, hoping that I could get in and out. Boy, was I mistaken.
When I got there, there were about 4 other groups ahead of me. My appointment time was at 10, I didn’t get my truck until 11 if not later. The girl ahead of me came solely to get blankets that they forgot to put in her truck the first time she visited this location earlier that day and did not get helped for 45 minutes. There was only 1 guy in the office for about 45 minutes of my visit until another guy finally showed up. They moved with no urgency and were rude when people calmly asked if they knew how much longer it would take. I understand that it’s not necessarily their fault that it got so packed and they were understaffed, but at least pretend like you’re trying to move as quickly as possible.
Once I finally got to the counter, they gave me a 10′ truck and had no 14′ trucks available. They insisted I had ordered a 10′ truck, even though I had the online receipt to prove that I didn’t. I was so tired of waiting, I took the 10 footer. Returning the truck took only about 15 minutes (thank god) but man do those things guzzle gas. Having to return it with the gas tank at the same amount it was when you got it really jacks up the price. For what is advertised as a $ 20 truck (with an additional like 50 cents per mile you drive) once I re-​filled the gas tank it ended up being a $ 75 expenditure. Definitely not worth the hell I had to go through to get it.
Also keep in mind that the neighborhood around this area is REALLY sketchy. If you are a mid-20’s girl, I wouldn’t recommend filling up at any gas stations nearby. (Unless you enjoy someone walking up behind you and sniffing you and telling you «say girl, you look good. yeah, you look real good.») Thoroughly creeped out. I would save yourself (and your sanity) by not using this location for your next U-​haul adventure.

This is a great number to call if you want to sit on hold and listen to silly u-​haul ads for 20 minutes

This place is awful. They’ve screwed up my rentals both times I’ve used them. I understand that people return trucks late and all that, but figure out a solution when that happens. Just because someone has «my» truck out doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be able to shift things around. I really don’t care if your customer is late… if that happens, give me a heads up and find me a truck at another location.
Order problems aside, the people who work here suck. Only one of the guys is competent and helpful, and the rest are lazy and angry.

Called Uhaul to inquire about a hand truck (dolly) that I wanted to purchase. I told the guy I wanted to buy it and wanted him to check his stock before I drove over there. He transfered me to their corporate office! So the corporate guy (was actually friendly) asked me what I needed so I told him what happened. He said «how am I supposed to know if they have it? «we both LOL’d and I told him at this point it would just be faster if I drove over there and checked myself.

Easily the two least friendly employers I’ve ever encountered. One takes about 5 times too long to check out a couple boxes while texting and mumbles. The other just gives me thuggish glares. It was just uncomfortable. Public storage is directly across 35 and much less sketchy.

Ohhhh U-​Haul how I dislike thee. When I moved across town I rented a U-​Haul for one of those 19.99 specials. Please explain to me how I ended up spending almost 80– bucks? There was the gas and the insurance and then the insurance to insure the insurance, and then the tip for the cashier. I’m kidding. I have no idea how I spent so much. Maybe it was the warning that… if anything is broken we will charge you an arm and a leg, you better get the insurance: wink wink nudge nudge: Next time, get me some big strong men and a truck, Ill buy em a case of beer and a pizza. Now That’s how moving should happen!
