This is one of my favorite galleries in ATX. I am always impressed by their shows and they are consistently well curated. It is an art gem in the city.

This may be my favorite gallery. I love the feeling of the space, how intelligently it’s curated and how the rooms flow so seamlessly from one to the next. There would appear to be a reason that Wally has weathered the storms and managed to succeed at the highest level for so long. I will attend as many openings as I can manage.

I have been patronizing this gallery for many years; in fact, Wally always inquires about the not-so-young-anymore youngsters. As was mentioned in another review, Wally has an incredible gift for identifying talent. We have a growing number of paintings from her gallery from a wide range of artists. There is never a time that I walk into that gallery and I don’t want to buy something new. I appreciate that the gallery also updates me when new works by artists I have collected or inquired about arrives. This is my go-to gallery in Austin.

I went to a packed opening show for Ian Shults last night which left me pondering the idea of having my husband build an extension so I could fit some more of his pieces in my house. I don’t know what magic powers Wally has, but her eye for talent is amazing. Run, don’t walk to see this show. You may find yourself craving a post coital cigarette afterward.

What’s best about the Wally Workman gallery is Wally herself. She’s a spitfire/sparkplug, intimidating but kind, tiny but huge, and a grand personality to help represent our art scene. She embodies the cool Austinite flavor, takes careful and passionate care in her choice of artists she chooses to represent, and her openings are always a blast. If you’re an evolving artist, good luck, but if you admire, she’ll share your curiosity and excitement for the work, regardless of your commitment to buy anything. Get on her email list… Collection is grand, the patron, grander.
