omg. This truck comes to my work on weekly, and I just tried again. I just got the brisket plate with slaw and crème spinach. AMAZING. The brisket was marble, juicy and full of smokey flavor! I have had Franklins BBQ one time, when it was catered to my team for lunch, and I have to say. I dont recall quite the same flavor explosion I just experienced in my first bite of Wunder Pig brisket, slaw and the spinach. It is probably the best BBQ Iv had in Austin, and I grew up eating Lockhart BBQ wich is stellar! Great Job Wunder Pig! the cost was fair and the quality was superb! Also, the guy working the truck is super nice. 5 stars!

I just had these guys for lunch. They were posted up at my office on Bee Cave Rd. Ordered The Pig Vicious, after the guy at the window mentioned it was featured in Austin Food Magazine as one of the top 8 «Must have Sandwiches Before you Die» or something like that. Umm… HELLO this is seriously one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. It has smoked pulled pork, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and their cilantro slaw(which I was told about before). Pulled pork had a nice smokiness with a hint of tang and sweet. The sausage was nice and cheesey, of course a little spice from the jalapeño. That being said the cilantro slaw was a nice cool down to compliment. It was a freakin beast of a sandwich. Bread was great quality too. I did ask if I could sub the normal chips that’s ties to the special for the jalapeño creamed spinach. Two words — dang tasty! I’ll be back out there once they stop in again.

Had this company for a catered work lunch. Absolutely disgusting!!! The one gentleman that was serving was absolutely rude to a co-worker and i had to step in to solve the problem. The beans were runny/watery with the only flavor was the burned flavor. The pulled pork was full of gristle and tasted burnt, The barbecue sauce they had was vingear based and extremely runny and not very flavorful. The only thing that was edible was the potato salad. I left lunch hungry. I would never hire them!

I can confirm that the owner of the truck is terrible, he closed up early and missed my sale entirely where my sole purpose was to sample his food and then review his truck. Well, congratulations, now your review is that you prefer to shut your doors earlier than you posted you would and when people come up to deny them their food. Unfortunately, I was going to order several pounds of meat and allow others to sample from the truck as well. Maybe they would have enjoyed it also. It doesn’t matter how you cook if you can’t run a business.

Was served disgusting old«pulled pork» that had obviously gone bad and was preserved by stirring sugar into it. I’m usually good about eating food that isn’t the best but I had to throw it away when I realized the only enjoyable part of the sandwich was the pickles. I wouldn’t eat here if I was starving to death. Horrible.

I love this place! I usually get sliced brisket on a plate with potato salad and cole slaw. However, the special today had it in a bun with sausage and their jalapeño creamed spinach. It was awesome! I’m looking forward to having this again :)

Discovered Wunder Pig during a recent visit to Adelbert’s brewery. Their website mentions their daily location schedule. Austin has so much good BBQ. Most BBQ places have their 1 – 2 strong points that stand out in my memory. For me the pulled pork, creamed spinach, and coleslaw were remarkably memorable. The highlights for me were actually the sides. The sides were really that good. I could have just eaten a plate of the creamed spinach and coleslaw alone. The pulled pork was my stand out meat here. It had a lovely hint of tangy sweetness to it. The other meat was good, the pork was just better. The food truck isn’t much to look at, and I loved the hand written menu on brown paper. Large portions for affordable prices.

The lunch sandwich special was tasty. Brisket, sausage and creamed spinach on top. Texas toast instead of a bun would have made it tastier.

Wunder Pig was such a nice surprise! I can’t lie. I haven’t been impressed with the barbecue in Austin so I wasn’t expecting too much but my pulled pork sandwich was so great. I was skeptical because it didn’t have sauce on it but the meat was so flavorful, smokey, and tender. The potato salad was pretty good too. They had a few free condiments and extras(onions and pickles). Prices are also very reasonable. I’ll definitely be back to try more!

We loved Wunder Pig’s food and service so much that we had them cater our wedding! They served to 140 guests, and all of them raved about the barbecue. Mems does a great job of working with you to get the right meat and sides selections to fit your budget. He also helped coordinate the logistics of whether to serve out of the truck or to serve buffet-style, and his foresight helped us serve everyone more quickly. The brisket was a nice balance of fatty and lean, the sausage was just spicy enough to give a little kick, and the jalapeño creamed spinach and potato salad were excellent sides. The ribs are definitely worth the extra money as well! In terms of the catering service, it was top-notch. Mems made sure his staff had everything coordinated flawlessly. They served 140 people in short order, and everyone left full, happy, and talking about how great the food was. After we booked with Mems and determined the menu, we literally just showed up and ate on the day of our wedding. The entire experience was great, and we’d highly recommend him for event catering!

The owner is really terrific and friendly young man with lots of enthusiasm. Also has a good networking model on Facebook and so forth making him easy to find. However in a town with such high expectations for BBQ it was average at best, perhaps even a bit below average. The brisket was fatty yet dry, decent smoke flavor but far and away from great, sorry. However maybe we caught him on a bad day who knows but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Love these guys! We had them out to our brewery, Adelbert’s Brewery, last weekend and they were awesome. They are super nice so it was great working with them. They arrived early and got set up with plenty of time to spare before we opened which I always appreciate. Now to the important part, their food. Delicious! I had the sliced sausage sandwich with jalapeño creamed spinach. The sausage was super tasty and had a nice spice to it. Topped with onion and their mustard based BBQ sauce(they have two sauce options to chose from as I recall), I was a happy girl. The spinach was super delicious and spicyyyy in a good way. It was the kind of heat where you taste this amazing flavor with a little heat so you dig in for another bite, which is right when your lips and tongue start to feel warm. By the fourth bite, your mouth is nice and hot so you find yourself torn between shoveling more in or sipping beer to cool it down! Just be warned it has some heat so if you’re sensitive to that, try their potato salad! Overall, I enjoyed everything about Wunder Pig and look forward to having them back!

I got the two meat plate. The brisket had enough salt to survive a transatlantic sailing trip. The pork was bland and wet. The best part was the bag of chips.

Okay, I’m gonna preface this by saying the brisket and chicken here is great. It’s legitimately great barbecue. BUT… The person running this truck needs to get his stuff together. Really long wait times on account of only one person taking and making orders, and on two occasions eating here, something has gone wrong. Out of brisket, card machine went down, like… really? And you don’t even give out vouchers to the customers who get screwed in the process? I’m sorry, but as good as the food is here, the business is just run really poorly. I won’t be returning unless things shape up.

You’re visiting Austin and you’re either just arriving or about to leave. Stop here. Very authentic Austin Texas BBQ without the Austin prices. Old time flavors in new and creative sides, generous portions, and the meats!!! Ordered the pork ribs and was blown away. My wife ordered the brisket and it was just as amazing. Loved all sides, but the spicy kick in the creamed spinach made it the winner. We headed back to New Orleans full, comfortable and very satisfied with our last Texan BBQ.

This is a good spot to fill the BBQ void left on South First with the departure of La BBQ. The best features are the lack of line that is synonymous with the staples in Austin and a second round of meats smoked specifically for the dinner rush. That being said the BBQ was good, specifically the chicken. They were out of the brisket, and I look forward to trying that soon. Owner was very nice and talkative. Jalapeño cream spinach was a great side and did I mention no wait? I look forward to returning soon.

Wunder Pig is wunderbar and the best part is that it’s just a few blocks from our house. We still haven’t tried Franklin’s(lines were just too long when we’ve driven over there). But we have had La Barbecue ribs and brisket and Wunderpig is just as good. To satisfy a BBQ craving I trekked to Wunder Pig at 11:30 on a recent Thursday morning — was first in line, but more people arrived soon after. My husband had gone there a few weeks before, around 1pm, but they were sold out. I ordered two one-meat plates, with pork ribs and brisket, which we split at home. The sides that day were cut corn and creamed spinach. The ribs were fantastic! Brisket good, too, but I’m personally partial to pork ribs and these are right up there with the best of ‘em(including my husband’s tried-and-true). Since we no longer eat corn at home and never make creamed spinach, I wasn’t excited about the sides when ordering — but then, we tasted them. Wow — so delicious! And a nice change from the usual potato salad and coleslaw. So if you live in Bouldin Creek or Travis Hts or downtown, don’t bother driving over to Franklin’s or La Barbecue on the east side. So. 1st St. at Live Oak has its own stellar BBQ trailer. BTW, the ribs are $ 18 for a pound, if you just want meat. $ 16 for the brisket.

Sorry, but not great bbq, however I’m a BBQ snob. Brisket was ok, but a little salty and maybe cooked the day before. Ribs were sweet and too salty, and maybe cooked the day before as well. Tried to order pulled pork, but was persuaded towards the ribs bc of time needed to pull pork… BBQ sauce was tangy and didn’t compliment the Q. The potato salad was interesting and not to my liking. weirdly sweet. At $ 16 for a 2 meat plate and potato salad I will pass next time I’m craving smoked meat on south 1st.

Stumbled upon Wünder Pig yesterday after shopping at End of an Ear. Friendly staff who were enthusiastic about sharing their story with me. Hard to believe that the quality BBQ places continue to spring up around Austin. I’m a fan of options though and having something this good close to the record store puts a huge smile on my face. Ordered a two meat plate. Chose pork ribs and brisket. Both were perfect. The ribs are definitely what will keep me coming back though. So good! Sides were decent too. I opted for the jalapeño cream spinach and the spicy beans. They didn’t skimp on the portions either… I couldn’t finish what was served. Highly recommended.

I had the good fortune of sampling Wunder Pig’s ribs, brisket, sausage AND pulled pork. All were tender and flavorful, but the ribs are a stand-out for sure. These guys just opened and they’re already kicking BBQ butt. Guten Appetit!
