So sad to learn that WurstTex has announced today(Sunday May18, 2014) that they will be closing permanently. They had the BEST brats. My favorite was the vegetarian not sure who the new tenant will be but WurstTex will be missed.

Just stopped and was recommended the Buckwurst by the great staff. Outstanding decision.

I’m German, and i really appreciate companies that hit a bratwurst right on the head! I had the buckwurst that was smoked venison/pork mixed with peppers and cheddar. It was mouth watering! The truffle french fries were delicious as well! I highly recommend adding sauerkraut and mustard to complete the german dish. I can’t wait to visit Austin again because i will be back! The owner(can’t remember his name) was also super nice! :)

Had the venison and pork brat. It was decent, but nothing amazing, and a little pricey. Made up for somewhat by great, piping hot, fries. Worth checking out.

Really good wurst and the truffle fries are amazing! I went to the food truck on 26th and it’s about a 10 – 15 minute wait after you order. The only thing about this place is that it’s a bit pricey especially for a hot dog. WARNING: they will ask you if you want sauerkraut/cheese on your wurst, THEYWILLCHARGEYOUANADDITIONALFEE so make sure you say no unless you want to pay an extra $ 2. Good food, but not a fan of the prices

I shall update… the owner responded and in a not angry way mentioned that he agreed and they are working on some additional tasty toppings. This is cool. Very cool. Defensive biz owners = bad new bears. Smart, receptive biz owners = successful biz people with happy customers. We will come back next time we are in Austin!

Great food truck for specialty sausage when you are hungry for it. not the best IMO… but really great. The crew at Wurst Tex do their best to explain the menu and the items that you may desire. I got a great Brat and some Fries while adding some Curry Ketchup that is reminiscent of my days in Germany. The food tasted great and their style was just as good… just not 4 stars for me. but boy they got close. Simply give them a try and taste it for yourself. I personally prefer the simplicity, cost, and flavors of «Best Wurst.»

Delicious vegetarian sausages that are crave-worthy. Buns are soft and toasty, and contain literally the best vegetarian ‘meat’ I’ve ever had, the 04 Delight. Over and over, Wurst Tex wins out over all the other food trucks. I don’t know where Wurst Texas is located now. All the food trucks on South Congress were shut down, and last I heard, Wurst Tex didn’t know where it would be relocating.

Wurst Tex headed up the craft sausage movement, and now look all around you. You will find stuff-meat establishments ranging from cured salamis to hot dog-centric restaurants all the way to food trucks cranking out sausages with duck, figs, and assorted sauces. This tenured SoCo joint has long provided meat fiends with classic pork bratwurst, a handful of unique options(i.e. turkey, bison, and the like), and convenience. The grub here just doesn’t do anything special for me. At many other eateries in ATX, you can find housemade sausages – you don’t have to come down to SoCo to get them. Regardless of whether or not you are a fan of Wurst Tex, you cannot deny that its simple menu does provide something that truly falls in line with no-frills eating, common to many trailers on this iconic strip.

Of all the food trucks on the block, I had to try this one first. The workers were really helpful since I can never make up my mind. I may have held up the line a little, but they were still patient with me. A+ for service! I’m pretty sure I ordered the El Wursto(spicy, yum!). It was the best sausage I’ve ever had. I’ve tried a few other sausage/hot dog trucks, but this is the one I remember. The picture I took does not do it justice whatsoever. It looks small and puny and greasy and too cheesy. But it filled me up and I was not feeling guilty whatsoever. The fries were delicious too. I will be back to try the truffle oil with fries. I heard it’s even better.

I ordered the O.G. topped with sauerkraut, which I thought was just okay. The line wasn’t even that long yet ordering took forever and getting the food took forever too. The guy wearing a fedora helped me and he was a bit rude and weird. Overall, I must have waited 20+ minutes for a mediocre hot dog.

I had the veggiano. in hindsight seeing as I’m not a big fan of fennel I should have tried something different, my fault. That said it still was pretty good.

So good, I can’t do it justice. But let me take a stab at it. Their sausages are great. Honestly, I’m not a sausage person. But I do know what I like. I tried the Buckwurst and… party in my mouth. But, at a place like Wurst Tex, you’d expected great sausage. What came as a surprise were the condiments! You have to try the curry ketchup and the whole grain mustard. Ohhh! Mix them. Food is one thing to talk about. Let’s give them a hand for their friendly service. Out of all the establishments in that food truck park, I think the good folks at Wurst Tex are the friendliest!

Out of all the food trucks, I say wurst tex is worth your $. My cousins all ate at the other trucks, and they didn’t seemed satisfied with their meals. Beautifull presentation. Nice choices. They were kind & splitter my fries for my cousin & I to have our own basket. My cousin got the OG& I got the one with habanero. I forgot,(brb on info) The fries were shoestring. You can have an option for truffle oil. I love their bun, it’s no average hot dog bun! They also give you a paper fan to cool you off~

We ordered the classic hot dog and the OG bratwurst. Both were very good and large. The grilled onions were delicious and cooked perfectly, just as the bratwurst and hot dog were. Great place to stop and grab some lunch. I will definitely be back.

Skip the OG and get any of the gamier brats. Load it up with kraut and onions, apply condiments, ???, profit.

I had the Elk and it was very tasty — what i liked the most was the kraut… it was so fresh and tasty, I wish I had access to that kind of kraut regularly here in california! Oh, and they also have a bunch of mustards and toppings… I looved the spicy mustard and honey mustard :).

I freaking heart this place. I never really feel this strongly about sausage or hot dogs until I come to Texas. The bratwursts here at Wurst Tex makes places in SF that have almost 2000 reviews look sad and needy. I kid you not! First, let’s talk size! Yes I have a feeling this is going to be a very innuendo’d review … but they are huge! Much bigger than any other place I have gone to for the same price. They really give you your money’s worth here especially with the sauerkraut and grilled onions. They also have a variety of different mustards which I loveeee. Whole Grain is a MUST! Second… flavor! Every bratwurst is packed full of juicy flavor of the specific animal or taste that you’re looking for. You will not find a dry dog here. Third! variety. Yes I have never seen so many exotic meats and exotic ingredients used … or the combination of such ingredients. Everything here is delicious, good, you can’t go wrong whether its Rabbit or Rattlesnake, duck or bacon, elk or whatnot. Everything is super delicious. The bun as well … also no dry buns here. As you can tell, I’m super excited about this place, so this means you need to go! Don’t make me threaten you with more exclamation points!

There are few meat items that I miss as a vegetarian. The first one is Sushi. The second must be a good sausage sandwich. Its not so much the meat that I miss — but the entire conglomeration of spices, textures, toppings and sauces. Try to do that with a Morningstar sausage as the base and you’re likely to gag. Every time I walk past The Best Wurst on 6th, I just wish that they had some kind of veggie option so that I could have those delicious-smelling, sizzling peppers and onions. Alas, their little cart is just too small to separate the veggies from the meats. Enter Wurst Tex. I’m walking down SoCo one fine First Thursday and I see a larger Wurst stand. Could they have a veggie sausage? Unlikely. I check the menu anyways. THEYDO! And not just one, or subscripted veggie option — but TWO mainstream options. «The 04 Delight» and the«Veggiano»! I’ve tried both and they are each savory in their own way. I recommend treating The 04 as if it were a polish sausage — cover it with sauerkraut and mustard. The Veggiano is aptly named to sound more like an Italian, spicy sausage variety. Grilled peppers and/or onions suit this one best. Wurst Tex, thanks for existing and not ignoring the veg’s in town. I’ve just about had enough of looking at that trailer park full of places I don’t want to eat at until you came along.
