American Pie is slowly dying in my opinion. When I first started coming to this side of Iowa about 12 years ago, it was much busier and the food was better. Eating here now is just kind of sad. It’s your average truck stop diner food in my opinion. Cheap ingredients, greasy, and quick made. The waitresses vary from sweet to grumpy. I also don’t understand for a place with little business and so small why half the tables always appear to be dirty when I come here. Let me put it this way folks if you gave me a choice between eating here or getting a cold sandwich at the gas station next door… I’d probably pick the sandwich. OR go eat at Ember down the road.

This place is ok, nothing to write home about but okay. I had the country breakfast with 2 eggs over easy the whites were runny and I hate that! Asked for hash browns done crispy and that is exactly how they came, yum! Half order of biscuits was plenty and not terrible. I love biscuits and gravy and these were not bad, again nothing to write home about but a whole lot better than many I have tried. The waitresses were nice and friendly and very helpful. This is not a bad place to stop for breakfast when traveling across Iowa as I was. Not much out here in this corner of Iowa !

Nice to have table service at a gas station stop. Food was good. Tried the cheeseburger and fries and chicken fingers with Mac and cheese. The salad bar looked decent but I couldn’t leave without trying the pie. I had banana cream and it was great!
