I came here for lunch one day with my coworker. My first thought when I walked in was whoa, this looks like a loungy dc nightclub with the dark interior and glowing lights. Not exactly somewhere I’d go to lunch for sushi and thai in a strip mall but hey, the world is full of surprises! As for food, I got the spicy tuna roll and yaki udon. Don’t know if I would order the yaki udon again. The portion was big and it was tasty but it mainly consisted of noodles and only 3 pieces of shrimp. The spicy tuna was good though. It wasn’t the sort of minced tuna mixed with spicy sriracha mayo but contained actual pieces of tuna. Oh Fetty Wap also seemed to be the music of choice at the time I was there. I didn’t mind it but thought was funny. It definitely made me want to go up on Tuesday that’s for sure(considering I was actually there on a Tuesday!)

Thank you so much Kenji Fusion! The delivery man got stuck in the snow then walked in the big snow to make sure I got my dinner. It was quite tasty and I’m very appreciative. I hope your car got unstuck!

I’m pregnant and went to kenji fusion with my husband for dinner just now, this place offers all you can eat sushi which is the only reason we went there(my husband loves sushi) I can not eat sushi tho because I’m pregnant. So I was going to order something off the regular menu. The rude waitress and manager told us that unless I paid $ 25 for all you can eat sushi, that my husband could not. They said we needed to pay $ 50 in order to eat. I explained I can’t eat fish, that I wouldn’t be eating any of my husbands food. I wanted chicken. They told us that we both needed to order all you can eat sushi or we had to leave. So we left. Horrible customer service! How dare they discriminate upon me for being pregnant! Their policy of «the whole table eats all you can eat sushi or none of you can», is ridiculous. They were rude and unprofessional.

This is my new favorite sushi spot. Its quiet, and the rolls are amazing. Service was excellent, food and drink excellent and worth the price of the food. Will go back over and over.

First thing first for this review, they don’t accept the discount given on Unilocal. That’s right, they DIDNOT use it when I checked in with Unilocal. As a Unilocaler, I’m disappointed that this establishment did not honor the discount to Unilocalers. Yea– there were a couple of us. So my fellow Unilocalers, did this happen to you? I was introduce to this place by a friend who had her birthday party here. She reserved a private room in the back that can hold up to 30 or more guests. The ambiance was nice and beautiful. It had a lounge feel to it. Low-lights with black lighting, stone like floors, and the tables either were booths or chair seating. However, I can’t speak the same for the service. The waiters was not at all attentive nor hospitable. I waited an hour to get refills on my drinks. The waiter even forgot my order. 2 hours passed by and I could barely flag down the waiter for a check. Basically, our party had to flag down each of our waiters to get some kind of service. Food: I ordered the Sushi & Roll deluxe, dinner set. The sushi was delicious– tuna and salmon rolls. The set also served some sashimi– white tuna, salmon, mackerel and tamago. Which were all decently fresh. The set comes with a small salad. 3 stars for the food. I paid $ 35 total. Yea, the gratuity was ummm, yea. Omg – not worth it. Conclusion: As much as my girlfriend raved about this place hoping it was the bomb-diggity(also because it’s close by her) I wouldn’t give this place a second chance just because the service was AWFUL. Food was okay. But that service though– I mean come on, they didn’t honor the check-in on Unilocal.Hmmmmm~ not cool my dear friends.

Great food but not kid friendly, confusing all you can eat eat sushi menu, a night club atmosphere and mediocre service. If you like an uncomfortable dinning atmosphere while listening to hip hop music this place is for you!

Worst place ever. Servers unaware of menu and extremely rude. «Manager» was just absolutely unprofessional. Added several items I did not order to my bill as well as dollar amounts without item descriptions. In addition, she included a «required» 18% gratuity — we were only two people!!! When I asked for an explanation of the charges, she refused and called the police! Yes… The police! When the police arrived the manager was ordered to remove the ridiculous charges. While paying my bill, one of the officers suggested I never return to this place as the police get called for similar matters rather frequently. Would not ever think of returning. This place is a massive rip off with cheap nightlife décor. Wake up Kenji Fusion, you are situated in a overpopulated ghetto strip mall.

The food is relatively good here. I’m a big fan of the sushi entrees; the fish is always fresh, the portions are generous, and the presentation is beautiful. This is one of the few places I’ve been to where they don’t drizzle the octopus sashimi with any sauce. My personal favorite specialty rolls that never disappoint are the Zebra roll with extra tobiko, the Yankee roll, and the Hot Chick roll. The sushi lunch special is great too: 8 pieces of sashimi, 4 pieces of sushi, Miso soup, and a California roll all for $ 15. However, I stay away from the Thai entrees because I’ve had much better Thai elsewhere. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous as well, overall a nice atmosphere to dine in.

It was ok until I drank a huge gulp of nasty water. It had bits of rice and green chunky stuff. Looked like it was a used glass. How bloody disgusting is that? The wait staff isn’t exactly knowledgable with menu. He seemed such a dud. Come on. Have some life in ya when taking our orders down. Sigh!!! Not coming here again.

Got take out on a Sunday night in with my boyfriend to complete our Netflix & Chill session. $ 53 for mediocre, below average sushi. I mean I still ate it but if you’re looking for good sushi I would look elsewhere. You can taste that the fish isn’t fresh. If they were cheaper I’d be able to be nicer about it maybe?

This review is for their delivery. It was delicious! We really enjoyed the General Tso’s(much better than the usual overly sweet version dripping in corn syrup), and the Pad See Ew. We live a bit far for delivery, and it still arrived warm! I haven’t tried their sushi, but if you’re in the mood for good chinese fried junk-food this is your place! We will be ordering again, right now in fact! Get ready mouth!

Disclaimer: delivery is never as good as eating in the restaurant. Though true, you still can have expectations. I ordered the Tom Kha Gai to start. It was ok, but needed more lemongrass to get that lemon bite to it that I appreciate from the soup. It was more liquid that substance, which was a few mushrooms, sliced red and green pepper, some onion, and chicken. Just ok. I wouldn’t recommend it. I ordered the fatty tuna sushi, which was $ 15 for 2 pieces. Meh. I love fatty tuna and this quality was sub-par. The Marci Sweetie roll was another ok, grilled squid, scallop and avocado in rice paper topped with eel sauce. I couldn’t taste the scallop. You get a taste of octopus but mainly eel sauce. Last was the cali roll. Also meh. Cali rolls are supposed to be like the club sandwich of Sushi — hard to mess up. My biggest issue — there was NO picking up the sushi in one piece. It was packed so loosely that I was fishing rice from my soy sauce along with the sushi that unrolled in scroll fashion. The same quality of rolling was true for all the sushi — makes a mess. I don’t mind working for my food when it’s intended to be work — think crawfish. For the price and product, I wouldn’t recommend Kenji Fusion.

1 for service. 2 for food. –5 if you have a special Groupon/Livingsocial/Specialicious deal I suppose my intuition on this place was correct, after all I work within 5 mins of this place, noticed it opened, and for whatever reason — just never put forth the time to go sit there and have a meal. As we all may know even though promotional values ‘expire’ at a certain date, the amount you spent towards the ‘deal’ should still be valid up to 5 years past the expiration date. — especially when noted in the fine print on the printed voucher. I brought my voucher in for lunch to dine in — expecting the $ 15 to be honored, understood that $ 30 wouldn’t be. The dude who took our orders didn’t know the menu, and actually asked us to repeat our orders at least 3 times, and after several rounds of clarification(which didn’t include modifications or anything special… just STRAIGHTFROMTHEMENU) we put our order in. No one checked to see if things were ok, or even bothered to come refill the water. Mind you there were only 4 tables that were occupied at the time with less than 10 customers during the lunch hour. The food itself wasn’t so bad, but nothing special either. Bento boxes were prob priced a bit high, noticed they had a 2 roll lunch special for $ 9.25 that comes with EITHER soup or salad, not both. Most places I’ve been to offer both the soup and the salad with lunches. I thought that was rather stingy on their part… really? Miso soup and some lettuce with ginger sesame dressing is not likely to cost more than 50 cents total… why would we really have to pick one or the other?!! When the meals actually came, the yakisoba chicken noodles looked alright, and there was a cute garnish on it. The bento box was probably larger than it needed to be for the portion of food they provided, the california roll was certainly smaller in diameter than usual, their shumai was dipped in batter and fried, not the ‘true’ shumai. The salmon tasted fine and was cooked well. not overdone. Nothing to rave about regarding the food, absolutely nothing to be pleased about regarding service.

This is a surprisingly beautiful restaurant for a strip mall! The lighting and color palette is more nightclub than fine dining, but you have to admit the lights are pretty cool looking. The interior is also a lot bigger than what you imagine standing outside the front door. I ordered one of the lunch specials consisting of two choose-your-own rolls(yeah, I’m still on a sushi bender). I opted for the salmon and avocado and the shrimp tempura roll. Both were delicious. The salmon was buttery smooth and the shrimp tempura was tender and crispy. Neither was made very well, though. The rolls were very haphazard as opposed to the precision I am accustomed to from sushi chefs. There was nothing wrong with the ingredients — I stress this because I do not want anyone to get the wrong idea. Definitely order sushi here! It will give the chefs more practice on the preparation. Incidentally, I think I chose the worst seat in the house… at the sushi bar, at the end and face-to-face with a microwave. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we all know that microwaves have their places in most kitchens. Mostly we like to think that all places are serving up Michelin quality food, but they really aren’t… that said, I do not want to encounter a microwave smack in front of my face at my place at the bar. Just saying.

This place is soooooo underrated! Every time I have come since they opened last fall I have wondered where the people were?! Kenji Fusion offers Japanese, Chinese, and Thai food. Their sushi is amazing and hot dishes are equally great. Even though they do not seem as busy in the 3500 square foot restaurant, they have an ample amount of delivery business to keep them going. The dishes are not as big as you would typically see in your traditional Chinese restaurant, but the quality more than makes up for the shortage of quantity. Items I have tried here: Kung Pao Chicken, Chicken and Broccoli, Beef and Broccoli, Philly Roll, Cali Roll, Rock and Roll, Spider Roll, Rainbow Roll, Hot Chick Roll, spring rolls, edamame, all of the nigiri and much more. I have not been let down yet! Arigato!!!

My experience wasn’t a pleasant one… Unfortunately! Don’t wanna get into much detail, but long story short: customer service is not their top concern, the way a business should be! Didn’t wanna replace my friends sushi, looked annoyed for being conceded with our order, literally at the end the waiter,(short and black hair) roughly put the check on the check. Ah. Not good. Will not return. Really bad first impression. If you go, don’t have the highest expectations. You might just be disappointed.

3.5 stars Ordered delivery on a lazy Sunday. Put in the order at 830, food came at 857. A++++ Chirashi – was decent enough. But hefty at $ 21. I’ve had less costly chirashi that was fresher and came with more pieces. The rice was okay – not as close to sushi rice as I like it, but I ate most of it. Spicy salmon/tuna roll: nothing too exciting. Rolls were small, too much other stuff blended in, could hardly tell what fish was what. Was a little sad looking… The rice was falling apart. I would order from here again mostly because there aren’t many sushi places that deliver. I might even go in to try some chef’s special and peep the staff. They seem efficient, just based off of the delivery.

Kenji Fusion has Thai, Chinese and Japanese offerings(hence fusion). The décor is also a fusion in that it is night club-esce with dark walls, colored LED lighting and hip-hop nation playing overhead. Round paper lanterns and a cherry tree give splashes of color. The location is also a fusion of cultures(Edy’s Peruvian Chicken, Olive Garden and the Filipino Global Market). The location choice should serve Kenji Fusion as there is good foot traffic for the GNC and Verizon Wireless. I sampled the following: — Cucumber Rolls — Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura — Vegetable Curried Fried Rice — Pad See Ew Vegetable — Yaki Soba Chicken — Matcha Tea(their default tea) The cucumber roll was fresh, delicious and well rolled. I like the toasted sesame seeds. The Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura had perfectly cooked Panko and no greasy residue. Of the three main dishes, we found the Vegetable Curried Fried Rice the best. All three main dishes had fresh vegetables and were served hot. On the negative, if I were rating on Pad See Ew alone, I’d have to give a 3⁄5 star rating as with Bangkok 54 and Duangrats within 5 miles, I’d rather have the 5⁄5. The noodles lacked the wok sear marks and the characteristic sweetness. Also, the menu indicated the Pad See Ew had egg & Chinese Broccoli(per tradition) whereas what I received was American and Chinese Broccoli, peas and mushrooms. Again, I like the idea of fusion in having Thai, Chinese and Japanese, BUT when ordering a known like Pad See Ew, I’d expect Pad See Ew with normal vegetables and flavoring. The food is worth the price and décor although different doesn’t take from the dining experience. If you are leveraging a Groupon or Living Social deal, they will add 20% gratuity to your check(I imagine they have not been tipped properly driving this choice).

I had terrific sushi rolls here off their extensive selection of rolls. The service was quick, responsive and pleasant. It also feels casual, as in, servers don’t seem formally trained. The décor is sexy but the lighting is too low for my middle aged eyes. I feel like the sushi here is exquisitely done and probably the best I have eaten in the DC metro area. The chef churns out some inventive rolls and I’m a roll a holic. I’m no sushi snob though. They always seem to have room to accomodate you! That’s a plus! If you check in to Unilocal, there is a 15 percent discount. What’s not to like.
