Not bad. Maybe not my sort of restaurant — it’s one of those normal«American» restaurants — nothing wrong with that but not really my thing.

I’m a sucker for a good happy hour and this is the best! Great wine selection and super fresh oysters! I like the alternating cheese selections too. Even the bread and butter is not your average bread and butter. I tried bone marrow for the first time here. I was impressed. It was like an earthy beef butter jelly spread, if that makes sense. Ha! Doesn’t sound appetizing but it really was yummy. I would go here all the time if happy hour wasn’t literally an hour. I just don’t usually have enough time after work.

My wife and I love this place. The bartenders are always friendly and they always have great specialty cocktails in the mix. We usually go there on date night as the food is good, the staff is friendly and most important to us it is local. If you come over to our beautiful island and have a thirst make sure you stop by.

We arrived in town late and were looking for some quick take-out. Boy did we get more than we bargained for. We had our order in 30 minutes and it was spectacular. The black-eyed peas and sautéed greens were amazing, as was the giant Atlantic Squid fettuccine. We had a rich blu cheese with apricot and cardamon jelly which was fantastic. The albacore tuna main was perfectly prepared even with the commute but the pork chop with grilled kyle was the best dish we had all week. Friendly staff got us in and out 40 minutes after I placed my order. What a great surprise.

We have a new favorite restaurant on Bainbridge Island after the Four Swallows closed a couple of years ago. Service was impeccable and food exceeded expectations. Clams were great but best part was the sauce which I finished with a soup spoon. Delicious soup and blue cheese salad. Wine doubled the cost of the dinner but was only marked up around 40%. Will probably have by the glass next time. Martini and Manhattan were well made. No complaints. Just a good evening and will go back and introduce to friends soon.

Hitchcock is a great place for the island, but could have been better. This is definitely still a place I’d bring friends or family to for special occasions when visiting the island, but I don’t think it measures up to some of the high end restaurants in Seattle. We were able to get a table for 6 right away on a Sunday night which was nice as they don’t take reservations for groups. The service was overall excellent, though they did forget one of the appetizers we ordered. The wine selection was extensive and they had a few good local beers on tap as well. The menu changes often and reflects what they get in. The cheese plate was excellent with a good selection of cheeses and paired jams. The sour dough bread they serve is also very tasty and goes well with many of the appetizers. The olives were incredible, absolutely the best olives I’v had and the olive oil was awesome on the bread. The tomato and cheese plate was also nice with fresh soft cheese and huge plump tomatoes. The octopus entrée was a little disappointing though. It looked outstanding with nice big tentacles covered in a smokey paprika like seasoning. However, the taste didn’t match the looks. It was cooked well and not rubbery, but the seasoning was off to me. It was overly smokey, almost burnt tasting and I know it wasn’t from the cooking. Call me an octopus purist, but I would have preferred a simpler seasoning that let the ocotpus stand out more. The octopus and pork pasta was nice, but surprisingly could have used a little more seasoning. Dessert was very good, especially the pastries, and the Theo chocolate torte was good as well. They’re huge though, so be ready to share.

This is how food should taste and be served. I love living in the PNW and this place is part of why. When friends/family visit me out here I must take them on the ferry and do a tasting menu at Hitchcock. I love the intimate feel, the smart yet warm staff, and quality in every bite and sip. I can’t help but get a tasting menu with the drink pairings every time I visit. I want all the best the chef has to offer and they never disappoint. The bartender starts with an appertivo that delights and excites your taste buds and each drink after is thoughtfully paired, poured, and mixed. The only con is that it wouldn’t be reasonable to eat here every single day. ;)

The happy hour bites were pretty good, but the cocktails… Disappoint. The bartenders choice made us feel like college freshmen again in the worst possible way. We asked for gin and tequila cocktails, respectively. We wound up with a gin pink panty dropper and tequila & oj. I couldn’t do the gin drink so I asked for a Collins instead… I gave up and just drank my gin and Sierra Mist before going up the street for something else.

I’m not sure what all of the low ratings are about. «I had to wait 15 minutes!» Seriously? Chill out and have a cocktail, lady. I’ve experienced nothing but stellar service and great food/cocktails at Hitchcock. It’s my go-to recommendation for newcomers to the Island who want a taste of the PNW. It’s a little spendy, sure, but you get what you pay for. This place certainly isn’t an everyday spot for me, but it’s the default when I want to have a really, really good meal. These guys source some killer ingredients, and have the culinary skills to back it up. You know when you get a plate of something delicious, you take a bite, and make the involuntary ‘mmhhhhmmmmmm’ sound like Homer Simpson? Yeah, that’s going to happen at this place. Eat here, and be sure to get a reservation on busy nights because it fills up quick!

The hostess should be working as a telemarketer. No, that’s an insult to telemarketers! Beyond rude. And we were just informed that she is the bar manager. Pathetic. Seriously, work on your manners.

5 Star, WARNING… don’t trust it! Those that know the game, know they are playing it. Sorry to point out they have a Marketing Company getting them PR and fake reviews, none stop! A fake review come out, right after a bad review. Instead look for real reviews from like VIP dinner at Open . To be VIP reviwer you must eat there and at dozen others. FYI Hitchcock has ZEROVIP reviews from … Why and others VIP rating of 1 star not showing up… WHY? As a Top VIP reviewer on for nearly a decade. Reviewing 48 of the top 100 in USA and WA. I’m shock that my Hitchcock review went MISSING on , WHY??? FYI Our review of Hitchcock We tried nicely point out … 6 dishes… ONLY1… was«NOT » returned for safety and taste reasons. Beside the food being unsafe to eat, it was WAYOFF the mark. For a so called… Farm to Table, Foodie, with a Chef tasting menu, we all expected more, especially after reading so many positive reviews !! This was not our 1st time, however it was our last. They have missed the mark far to often, especially compared to an average Chef menu in NY, LA or even Seattle. This might be understandable in the dead of WINTER, or off season, but this was in PEAKSEASON for a Farm to Table during July 2015, the best summer in NW for over a decade. Nevertheless the OVENBAKED Chicken was deserving of a few Stars, all else was just average. The point… this was the worst review I’ve ever given in a decade, moreover it went missing. So don’t trust ANY positive reviews on Hitchcock, especially on nor those pictures, nothing looked nor tasted great!

Amazing birthday celebratory dinner we had here and long awaited. We had heard amazing things about the restaurant and particularly the tasting menu and booked a table. Easy on and off the ferry to the restaurant. For a chilly Wednesday evening in July the place was not busy when we arrived shortly after 7pm but was surprisingly more so upon leaving after 9pm. The restaurant is dark and cozy and we were seated in the back section where we were in view of the small open kitchen with brick oven. We chose the tasting menu to get a lot of tastes and only opted for a substitution for the oysters as we are not big fans. We each got a glass of wine which was very affordably priced. The dishes that were brought out to us came out well paced and each were very suitable portions. Our dishes were: Roasted and pickled beet salad with ricotta salata Poached turnips Charcuterie of coppa with arugula salad White almond gazpacho Salmon tartare Bread service Crispy skinned Neah Bay salmon over favas and peas Palate cleansing sorbet Pork chop with warm peaches, farro, and a crème fraîche panna cotta Cheese plate with two cheese and crackers Spiced cake with rhubarb sorbet Chocolate mousse torte Coffee Everything was perfectly seasoned, cooked and presented. We especially loved the salmon, pork, beets and chocolate dessert. The only thing that we weren’t huge fans of were the turnips as they were just sort of flavorless, as turnips can be, and didn’t love the sauce with them. Otherwise fantastic meal that really didn’t make the night feel special and celebratory. I would have appreciated a candle in one of the desserts for the man but can overlook that! Will be back.

Short review: At this price, it needs to improve execution and refinement, but has great potential. The good: Great tasting and good looking culinary skills here. Nice ambiance though a little cramped in the front. Capable bartender. The bad: Front of the house, though friendly, is slow to seat you, and disorganized with clearing tables. Had to wait 15 minutes past my reservation time to get seated. One person took our drink order then the other person came by, unaware of the first order going in. They were out of two items on the dinner menu without telling us until after we were finished deciding on our orders. Wine stemware are sad little tiny mini glasses — I couldn’t swirl or get a nose on my red wine. These«issues» you expect at a $$ place. But at this pricepoint, I expect more in this affluent little island town. The ugly: 3-stars — will come back again and revisit to see if it’s improving.

This was our anniversary dinner while on Bainbridge. Our table was not ready(people lingering) so we were sat at the bar, given an apéritif and a small bite to hold us off until a table was ready. After about 30 minutes, the bartender came back with another drink and house cured olives and said«I am going to keep doing this until we get your table.» GREATSERVICE!!! Dinner was very good. It competes with the Seattle Top Guns nicely. The goods were the olives, my pork chop, cheese plate, and the roasted hay ice cream(yes Hay) over bread pudding. The salad with the egg was a miss. It is definitely worth the trip. Service throughout the night was excellent.

We’ve eaten at the deli a few times in Georgetown so we decided to try the restaurant on a day trip to Bainbridge. We stopped by while we were in Winslow and were able to make an early reservation for 5:30 which gave us time to catch the ferry back to Seattle. We shared the baby greens salad which was excellent with a nice wedge of blue cheese, and the bone marrow. I would have given this 5 stars but the bone marrow, while tasty, was really hard to eat because the bone wasn’t split in half. Trying to use a spoon to dig at the whole bone was hard and slightly unappetizing. I had the gnocchi with pork ragu, greens and chorizo. Amazing. Simply amazing. The layers of flavor in this dish were really complex. I was thinking it might be a bit heavy but it was actually very light and perfect for the season. Husband had the spaghetti dish and said it was good. I didn’t taste it so I can’t comment too much on it. Dessert was carrot cake with roasted hay ice cream and pea shoots. Again, amazing. The sweetness of the hay ice cream and pea shoots were a nice light accompaniment to the rusticity of the carrot cake. I would take the ferry JUST to come eat here again. It’s that good.

Went to dinner with a friend and we ordered the tasting menu. It was a delightful selection that ran the gamut of everything from seafood to meat dishes. Many were very straightforward and well prepared, with the occasional dish that made you go «wow. Interesting»(I’m looking at you, smoked goose). But the standout to me really was the rhubarb dessert. I could have maybe eaten 10 of them. In fact, if anyone wants to send one of them to Chicago for me, I’d let you ;) Overall, great food, nice atmosphere. Busy, but still quiet enough that my friend that I hadn’t seen in years and I could catch up. Wine was also outstanding. Would go again any time I’m back on Bainbridge.

Not a big fan of being forced to order only the tasting menu if you’re a party over 8 people. Luckily one person in our group bailed and we were able to order off the regular menu. I was interested in the tasting menu but the entire table has to order it or no one can. So many rules for a restaurant! I had the pork chop and arugula salad, both were delicious. The cocktails were maybe a bit too creative and the flavors didn’t blend. We tried 4 different cocktails from the menu. One person at our table sent both of her cocktails back and opted for wine instead — I would recommend just sticking to the wine menu. Three people at my table order the steak special, at $ 85 it was overcooked and came with no sides. My $ 25 pork chop came with greens and polenta. The gnocchi was average. The desserts were similar to the cocktails, they try too hard without putting much thought into how the flavors blend. We shared the dandelion root crème brûlée, rhubarb cake and chocolate cake. The rhubarb cake was good. Hitchcock is ok if they didn’t try to be so pretentious. If they are trying to compete with restaurants in Seattle, they are missing the mark. Tilth, Art of the Table, How to Cook a Wolf, etc are in a far superior league than Hitchcock.

I’ve eaten at Hitchcock on several occasions. I liked the food, and so did members of my party. We are all chefs who meet together to eat. I was blown away yesterday when I called to reserve a table for ten, there seemed to be some bizarre policy requiring that parties over 8 are forced to eat the tasting menu!!! No other choices! It’s $ 65. I asked what that menu would be, the man I talked to couldn’t help. Didn’t know what it would be. So what’s the assumption here? We are going to order one entrée and share it between 10 people? Or are we a bunch of prats who couldn’t order off of a menu? This is not a Michelin starred restaurant, It’s a decent restaurant in a small town. Why the massif ego trip? Or is it just laziness ??? Too bad.

Perfect example of a dimly-lit, pretentious, hipster, foodie, enclave. Menu offerings are«gourmet dumpster» at best. Yuck. Stay away! Do Bainbridge a favor by not frequenting this establishment; maybe they’ll get replaced by a KFC Or a CPK.

After the deli, we were really looking forward to dinner here. Outside of the olives, everything was underwhelming. Overly done pasta on the one plate and a critically undercooked pork chop on the other. The waiter was a little off putting and so we just suffered through the meal paid the toll and vowed never to go back. Add to the insult, my wife was violently sick when she got home. Not our best Bainbridge moment.
