I had a wonderful experience here! My friend and I went in at around 10am on a Sunday and we only waited around 15 minutes to be seated. The staff was really friendly. Their original benedict and french toast were super yummy!

Worst food I have had in a long time. Dry rubbery scrambled eggs. Home fries raw fork couldn’t pierce them. All the tables around us were getting the wrong food ordered. Bus boy asked how things were. Told him, he said that happens, you are entitled to your opinion. Raves by local news overrated. They need to go in undercover and order one of the daily specials. Nothing special about them!

Came here with the family for Father’s day. Good food, good atmosphere. Had the breakfast buffet. Everything was good. Then to top it off I had the best bloody Mary ever! This thing was huge, had a slider hamburger, hard boiled egg, olives, and best of all there was lots of the good stuff.

I live 3 minutes from this place and have only eaten there 3 times since it opened. In my opinion the food is bland, overrated, and I don’t like the taste of their eggs or bacon. The eggs are really thick and taste like powder eggs and the bacon tastes like it was cooked in a dirty pan that was used for something else. It’s basically a Denny’s at best, but with much higher prices and a fancy San Diego reputation. A 12oz orange juice will cost you $ 5 with tax for instance and that does not include a refill. I wish something better would move into the location that actually stays open past 3pm.

Awesome breakfast with my husband, I have been to the one in Pacific Beach and the food is just as great. The biscuits and gravy are amazing and the bacon was cooked just right, my husband enjoyed his French toast and eggs as well. They were very fast bringing our food and the food was nice and fresh. We will definitely come back! As a matter of fact I took my dad to breakfast a few days later and he had nothing but good things to say about this place. A must try for sure!

Great place for breakfast and lunch, friendly staff and servers. Nice to have a good neighborhood restaurant after waiting for 20 years for one. They serve a great banana split waffle as well as the country benedict, and sweet potato pancakes and waffles. Seasonal offerings are always a treat!

I’ve been here three times and tried three different dishes and each dish is really lacking in flavor and they are a bit pricey. I think I’ve had my last meal here.

I really liked this place, I had the Apple Pie Waffle and it was so so delicious and sweet. The waffle was cooked perfectly. I also had Bacon, eggs, and a few cookies. It was all really good. The only con is this place seems understaffed. I will definitely come back when I visit home again.

Found a hair in my food. When the assistant manager came to the table I showed her the hair and her response was«oh okay». I live across the street and eat out frequently especially for breakfast. «Oh okay» doesn’t deserve a return trip. The food is as mediocre as the customer service.

My mom and I went for the first time today. We both were very impressed with the food and service. Portion sizes are huge! You can share! We were seated right away at about 8:30ish. By the time we left, it was packed! And the line was out the door! I wish more people left better reviews for these guys. Can’t wait to bring my husband back. April 20,2015 Best service yet again! Jennifer was our server. Wonderful! Kathy the Asst mGr is also great!!! We love this place and will keep coming back! Thanks guys!

This place is real popular here in Bakersfield as i have heard of it numerous times. We decided to give it a try and got there around 10 for breakfast. I ordered the french toast combo with eggs and hash browns. My fiancé ordered Nutella crêpe’s with eggs and sausage on the side. When our order came it looked fantastic and had plenty of food! After digging in the eggs and hash browns were awesome but the french toast was soggy and tasted very eggy. The crepes were kind of dry and weren’t the best we’ve had. The food was okay and if i do come back id definitely try something else. Customer service was great and the establishment was very clean and neat! My fiancé and I were full and content and thats what matters at the end of the day! Food– 3 stars Service– 4 stars Cleanliness– 5 stars

Ordered the Golden State benedict. Waited a while to get them after ordering it and when it finally came of course it was a bit cold. I proceeded to eat it anyways because I was starving and didn’t want to wait any longer. Well, when I dug into it, I saw the avocados on there were a bit black. I separated it and continued to eat the rest of it and was a bit disappointed. The bread was soggy and it wasn’t anything to get excited over. It was just something to partially fill your tummy. So I guess overall experience was one that I wouldn’t want to go through again. So yeah, I’m not going to this place ever again of I can help it.

Enjoyed our first visit here today. Good flavor a on the biscuit and chicken fried steak. My hubby really liked his Border Benedict, especially the sweet corn cakes. The only disappointment was the potatoes. Bland and undercooked, came out cold. We were seated within 10 minutes, and had coffee within 5 minutes of being seated. Don’t come here expecting fast food… it’s a sit-down restaurant and you should enjoy the time for conversation. Our server Jennifer was very attentive, although it was a busy Saturday morning. Overall, very pleased

First time here. Been excited to eat here. Their marketing is pretty good, because their new creative dishes they advertise reach me and make my mouth water. So I’m here with the fam. We did wait to be seated a few minutes. This is more of a restaurant than diner– I expected a diner. The décor is very nice, modern, clean– neutral colors and laminate hard wood floors. There is a bar area/counter, booths, tables. The menus are cute and the dishes all look yummy! They have items that are not common, which excites me! I ordered Baja Breakfast Tacos– chorizo & egg tacos with cilantro, Pico de Gallo with BLACKBEANS! I’m Central American, I am a black bean lover and don’t care for Mexican rice or Mexican refried pinto beans. So I get excited about Black beans lol! One thing that was great, was the service. Our server, Jess, went above and beyond. When my husband asked about the biscuits and gravy, she offered a sample for him to try bc she said they change the recipe so often. My hubby is SUPER picky about the gravy. So it was awesome for her to offer that. Their gravy currently is cooked in bacon stock. I tried it too and wasn’t a fan. I’m not generally a gravy fan anyway, but it tasted a bit on the salty side for me. My Baja Breakfast Tacos were delish! Nice slices of avocado, black beans were perfect, and the fruit cup… it wasn’t just a cup of grapes or melons, just look at the photos I posted. I loved the fruit cup!!! Also they had 3 kinds of hot sauces: Cholula, Tabasco, and a Serrano Pepper hot sauce that was really good! My husband got the club sandwich. He didn’t care for the potato salad(like I said, he is super picky). I’m not a potato salad snob like him, so I would’ve been ok with it. Jess(server) had also offered a sample but my husband passed. She said that if he didn’t like it after receiving his order, she would get him something else. Sadly, he also discovered a long black hair in his food. My husband was very apologetic for being so difficult, but Jess was just as apologetic, comped the plate, and told him he could order anything else on the menu. She was just so kind, empathetic, accommodating, and down to earth. He ordered the same dish. My husband was also very impressed by her service. Side note, it must be hard nailing a recipe that will appeal to the masses. So the fact that our server was willing to give us a sample, was awesome. Little to no restaurants have done that for us. The kids plate(pancakes) was more than enough for a kid. My daughter is 10 and she couldn’t even finish her pancakes or fruit(she got the same fruit cup I did). Her plate would have filled ME up. My son loved his bacon Swiss cheeseburger. Overall, the food was great. Prices were a little high– $ 11 for just about each dish we ordered except the kids plate. Portion size is big. Service was EXCELLENT. We will definitely be back!

This place has potential. The food looks good to the eyes, ingredient seems good, but the taste is below expectation. I ordered something exotic last time, did not like it. I thought I give a fair chance by ordering ordinary French toast. First no no is canned, ugly strawberries. This place is In Central Valley, where all the strawberries are grown. Put some fresh ones on the plate. The egg is cooked right, taste bad, why? It’s cold. There is no such thing as a delicious cold sunny side up egg. The French toast looks beautiful golden brown, but cold and tough. The order came 45 minutes after we sat down. So the cook probably did everything right, but the serving staff cannot get it on the table. The servers look tired, worn out, stressed. Just like their cold tough French toast. If the manager is reading this, this one is on you. Oh the bill is $ 54. 8.25 for coffee. Ouch.

This review is an addendum to my first review in which I was contacted and apologized for my experience and given a gift certificate to come back and give the Broken Yolk a second chance. Even though the food was free my opinion will still be honest nevertheless. We were greeted by a rude hostess who refused to answer our questions about the Saturday buffet which was not full on the patio, and instructed us to wait 25 minutes instead for regular seating. Once we were seated Sonia, our waitress was pleasantly unprofessional as she complained about her previous job at Black Bear diner for the first few minutes of our dining experience. The service aspect of the restaurant is extremely lacking, as I also heard another waitress tell a table she would not take their food order with their drinks because she had to tend to other tables first, I thought that was rude since they were ready… anyhow… The food is lack luster and greasy, the Broken Yolk gives off cute café vibes but is nothing more than a sleazy diner you’re better off at Denny’s.

Mehhh. Stopped by for breakfast on Sunday. I’ve been to their other location in San Diego, and was surprised to see one in Bakersfield. It’s pretty large and they were really busy, so our waitress was missing half the time. We had the chicken fried steak, which was mediocre. I also had the pumpkin pancakes, which I’m guessing are seasonal. The sauce on top tasted like powder and was gross. I had about two pieces and was done. I’d suggest going elsewhere for breakfast.

Stopped in today to see what all the hype was about considering this is on the new and hot list here on Unilocal. Saw that newscaster, Aaron Pearlman, was here today doing a broadcast! So I rounded up the fam and we headed over to The Broken Yolk Café. I just don’t know if this place would qualify as a café… To me a café is a country place with huge portions and strictly country cuisine. The Broken Yolk has many Mexican food dishes also. Maybe the concept of a café has changed. This place is huge and modern. Didn’t strike me as a place to be called a café. We had the breakfast burritos and they were alright. The food was average. Service was average. Waitress wasn’t very friendly but not rude either. I didn’t really love anything and nothing stood out. Just seemed like another restaurant to me. I’ll probably be coming back to try the French Toast. The Broken Yolk Café, 3 stars.
