My family and I love this place! You can taste the freshness and quality of the food best in Bakersfield! Food, coffee and service is always excellent. Today I went in with coworkers and our server, Sylvia suggested the spaghetti with meatballs so I tried it and it was AMAZING, flavor was GREAT! Give this place a try you won’t regret it. Best coffee shop in town by far!

I come here with Marge and Maggie nearly every weekend. Their food is always excellent and all the staff are attentive.
Emily has been our server many times and she is always so helpful and treats us like family.
The owner is alway so attentive to his customers.
Again Marge and I are very impressed with the customer service. Roger and his staff are always there to make sure our service is top notch.

Delicious! We stopped in after an 8K run. The coffee was good, the French toast was delicious (almost like a funnel cake!) and the bacon was so crispy. I was not impressed on my prior two visits but today’s visit will keep me coming back!!! The service was excellent and it was great to have breakfast outdoors.

The staff is friendly and the food was delicious! Came in early morning for breakfast and it was a great experience. Will definitely be back

The place was very nice, inside and out. We walked in and sat ourselves. The waitress immediately got our drink order. She was very nice but that’s when the good service ended. She didn’t come and check on us often and did not refill our drinks. The food was pretty good. I had the Cajun Shrimp Omelette. I’ve only been to one other place that has this and I was impressed. Overall it was good. I would go back but the service does need some work.

Literally the best place I’ve ever eaten in my entire life!!! If you like ihop or Denny’s you will love this place and never go back to those chain restaurants! Waitresses are super nice and courteous. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ would recommend

The food was alright, but the service was extremely slow. Will not be going here again.

Parking was easy for breakfast, plenty of it.
Biscuits and gravy rocked! Their gravy has black pepper and the biscuit was large and moist.
Chicken chicken fried steak exceeded my expectations. Flavorful, Moist and not greasy.
Service was really good, I didn’t need to ask for anything, coffee and water cups were always maintained.
I will return.

Bad Server (Valentino): Friendly guy but he got our simple order wrong. Ordered egg white omelet with English muffin and Kids silver dollar pancakes no whip. He brought kids chocolate chip pancakes with whip, when we ordered regular pancakes no whip and brought me biscuit and gravy instead of my english muffin.
Food took forever to come and this happens: We got seated fast, got our drink order 5 mins later, then another 15 mins for our food order and then it took 35 mins for our food to come, not to mention he had brought our food to the wrong table originally. The sad part was it wasn’t even that busy. Normally when food takes that long you tell the guest and give them some type of update, he didn’t even come to our table until the food got there, and didn’t even apologize for the miscues for the order.

I met my wife and children here for lunch today and everything was top notch. The atmosphere, the smell of the food cooking as you enter the establishment, and super friendly greeting by the staff. Our food was ON POINT! Veggie burger was very flavorful and my salad with raspberry dressing made my meal amazing. My children all enjoyed the fresh fruit side with their meals and informed me that «we need to come here more often». I agree!
Our server Joana was absolutely FANTASTIC from start to finish on any of or needs and had such an AWESOME spirit about herself. You’ve definitely got yourselves a Great staff here at O.R.G.

Checked this place out for the first time and it was bomb-​diggity!
First the service– Our waitress was super friendly! I couldn’t even finish a cup of coffee before she came and asked if I wanted some more. She definitely cared about making my dining experience a pleasant one.
And the food– I had the Cajun Shrimp omelet and all I can say is ddddddaaaaaammmmmnnnnn!!! You don’t know what your missing. I’m interested to try different things on the menu but I would go back just for this omelet! Ca-​jun? More like Caj-​yum!!!

I’ve been here a number of times and must say that I have never been disappointed. The food is great, as is the service. They have a new menu item, chicken Parmesan sandwich, that is to die for. Today I had the bacon portobello mushroom omelette, and it was cooked to perfection. The hashbrowns have the right amount of crispness,. They now offer delivery. Our waitress, Emily, is the owner’s daughter. Friendly, cheerful, and efficient. You must give this place a try. They don’t serve dinner. It can be very busy on weekends and at lunch. Don’t go if you only have 30 minutes to eat. They don’t rush out the door so they can fill the table with a new customer. That is a plus.

Definitely a hidden gem… Everything on their menu is great, you can’t go wrong! Try their specials or go for their fluffy pancakes or eggs Benedict’s (lots of options). Their ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ burger is awesome if you love bacon!

First time trying this café. I had the waffle combo and it was delicious. Service was solid as waitress consistently returned to the table checking if there was a need. I shall return sooner than later as there were several items on the menu that I want to try.

Old River has an ample breakfast menu that is sure to find fans amongst any crowd. As can be expected, there are the typical omelettes, waffles, pancakes, and scrambles. They get creative with some omelettes (sriacha shrimp or cajun come to mind!). All breakfast plates come with an array of side choices, including multiple options for those trying to eat a bit healthier. If you really want to indulge, they serve massive biscuits with their gravy (sausage base gravy served here). I haven’t tried their sweet offerings, but from the looks of pancakes and cinnamon rolls going by our table, I can’t wait to try!
As for lunch, Old River is home of the ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ burger — half hamburger, half bacon! A must try in town amongst the Bakersfield burger offerings.
Décor inside is cute — a casual cabin feel that makes you feel like you’ve relocated to a diner up near Kernville or another fishing community as opposed to a suite off Stockdale Highway.
Service is fast and friendly. What I really admire is that on weekends they have enough staff to keep turnover going and waits short. We’ve also had multiple occasions where the manager or owner has stopped to ask for input on the meal — a small thing that doesn’t go unappreciated.

Excellent food. Excellent service. The Eggs Benedict are perfect every time. Even when they’re busy they take care of their customers. Breakfast is always good. Lunch is great too!

We have now been here a handful of times. The food comes out to order, including their burgers, which is rare. Service is very attentive and friendly. They have outside eating and do breakfast and lunch. All around a great diner.
Their tea is also always fresh and tasty in case that is your drink of choice.

First time here. Heard about this place from walking the walk path. I have to say customer service is top notch. The staff is very engaging. The portion size will not disappoint you. There is something for every one to enjoy especially picky eaters like me.

Fyi, I’m not a pro. I’m just a regular guy who loves to eat. I started Unilocaling for the sole purpose of helping others find delicious places to eat.
Today I came across this gem for the first time. Old River Grill is a small restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. Though it’s small and prices reasonable, it has a quality of food that is through the roof.
I ordered a Killer Kern Burger. (I wanted to get the 50/​50, but my girlfriend isn’t a fan of bacon and we were sharing to try the different plates. The ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ has bacon in the meat!). Regardless, this burger was amazing. It has spicy fried jalapeños that blended in with the cheese. The two huge pieces of bacon were thick cut and not too fatty. The thick half pound burger was tasty and so fresh. The chipotle sauce tasted amazing spread across the buns and it left a delicious residue on the freshly cut tomatoes and lettuce. I want to say this burger was one of the best I’ve had in Bakersfield. Yes, up there with the Eureka and 24^th St Deli at the car wash burgers. This is pretty much a gourmet burger at a diner price. It’s filling and served with a bed of delicious, hot fries. (~$ 11.99).
We also ordered a turkey avocado sandwich. Definitely just as delicious. It felt light and hearty. We had that with a small bowl of fresh fruit. If this wasn’t my first time and I didn’t have the disparity of trying the burgers, I would’ve had the sandwich to stay true to my «diet» lol. The sandwich is just as delicious and is super fresh filled with tomatoes, lettuce, sliced turkey breast, two big slices of bacon, cheese, and mayo on perfectly toasted bread. ($ 9.99).
I really liked the atmosphere. There was a refreshing feel to it with plants and original paintings on the walls. The location is amongst a bunch of office buildings. It feels like an oasis amongst a dreadful desert of the 9 – 5.
I will be making this a regular spot for me. :)
