Been staying across the street for 2 weeks and this has never been open, night or day. Out of business?

Who can resist the sirens’ call of the tacos at a mom and pop taqueria truck? «Not I» said the Unilocaler. I don’t know how they do it in that cramped space, but this semipermanent taco shack prepares some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. This one is located on the Northwest corner of Merle Haggard Drive and the 65 Fwy in the parking lot of the Shell gas station. There are a few outdoor tables between this building and the Shell minimart as well as a tiny triangular bar with four stools attached to the building itself(see picture). I ordered the taco plate which came with 2 large tacos(I chose carne asada and carnitas) which are just like street tacos with a generous serving of meat, onions, and cilantro, wrapped in a double layer of corn tortillas. The side of beans were tasty whole beans, not refried, and the rice was moist with a good texture. The carne asada taco was good, but the carnitas taco was the one that made the biggest impression on me. It was easily the best carnitas taco I’ve ever had. I also ordered the roasted corn on a cob which is served with butter, parmesan cheese, and chile flakes which was delish. The menu says that there is mayonnaise on the corn, but the lady serving me reassured me that they don’t serve it with mayonnaise. Their breakfast menu served all day and they take phone orders so you can call ahead and your order will be ready for pick up when you arrive. I will be returning here quite often! I just wish there were better seating options.

Why isn’t this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives? They’ve got some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. Don’t let the outside fool you, this place is the REAL. DEAL. excellent service is coupled with delicious, authentic tacos and BBQ. Absolutely fantastic.

Above average Carniceria food. Excellent carne asada tacos. Excellent carnita tacos. The best foods are local dives this is a local dive. Try the chile verde burrito! This is a little shack that sits beside a gas station on Merle Haggard Drive and Hwy 65 in Bakersfield. We hit this place on the way home from LAX returning from a trip to Maui.

Best damn tacos this side of the Rio Grande! The lengua and asada tacos shocked our taste buds and made a lasting impression of what a taco should taste like! Our expectations were exceeded and will be hard to match! We live on the opposite end of town, but will definately be making the commute!!!

Don’t judge this book by its cover! A little gem of a roadside taco stand conveniently located in the liquor store parking lot, Choco’s Tortilla Factory is a welcome break from your standard road stip freeway interchange fast food stop. The service starts with the owners who will most likely be there when you are. They actually care about you enjoying what you order. I got the Santa Maria style tri-tip sandwich. It was as good of a version of it as I have had anywhere else in California. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well. The cost is more than fair and the portions are not skimpy. They have assorted drinks on offer as does the liquor store they share a parking lot with. Choco’s will be our standard stop when we’re passing through from now on! One last thing, I always look to see how clean a place is before ordering and I did not see anything that caused me concern, it looked plenty clean to me. HAPPYTACOS!

I love the food here. I generally order a large carne asada taco and a bean and cheese burrito. I get my drinks from the Shell station next door b/c it’s cheaper.

Chocó’s Tortilla Factory was formerly known as Chocó’s Tacos until they«fought city hall», whatever that means. It’s more of a hybrid of a Mexican restaurant and a taco truck. It’s a semi-permanent taco stand in the parking lot of a Shell station. The carne-asada tacos are amazing! Warning to the faint hearted: the abundance of fly traps may make it hard to stomach the food and leaves you to question other hygiene matters. All and all it’s a hole in the wall in its truest form.
