Four of us went for breakfast. We all had omelettes and they were fantastic. Great biscuits and gravy. Food arrived as ordered. Along with a generous quantity it was the quality that won me over. Coffee cups never came close to being half full and all the staff was really nice. Our server Debbi was really on point. When we come to Bako this place is going to be a must.

My favorite place for breakfast! When you come in, they treat you like family! Food and Service is amazing! I always get the Chicken Fried Chicken, with Lonnie’s hash browns(bacon, cheese, onions) or I will get the Spinach, Mushroom, Tomato, and Swiss Omelette and add white turkey! I’ve been there for lunch as well and has their Pastrami and their Burgers with cheese sticks. Everything is really good. Never left disappointed!

Best breakfast in Bakersfield. Huge portions, delicious food. I usually get the Chicken Fried Steak breakfast. It is more than enough to split between two adults.

If we lived close by we would be here every Saturday morning! The staff was friendly and made us feel like we were guests in their own home, instead of just patrons of a restaurant. Pancakes are huge… And delicious. Our kids couldn’t get enough. Order the biscuits and gravy and country potatoes! You’re welcome. It cost only $ 45 for our family of 6 to eat our fill.

As good as it gets. Love the food and love the servers. Biscuits and gravy are the best in town. Portions aren’t as big as they used to be but they are still more than a healthy person should eat alone.

Good breakfast(3) with excellent friendly service(5) at a good value. Bill and I tried the Hawaiian omelette, pastrami omelette, Dons hash browns, home fries, biscuits with gravy. The B&G was excellent but the omelette were dry. Will return for the for the B&G & home fries and unending refills of coffee.

I would have to agree with some of the top reviews of this place. It is quite popular the food is good with large portions. The staff was attentive and friendly. The sausage patties are handmade and large, about the size of a quarter pounder. I would definitely come back next time I’m in town.

Had late breakfast at this café diner located in the Oildale area. Place was packed in the afternoon but the wait didn’t seem long. Ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs and country style potatoes. CFS came with a fantastic country gravy. It was very very good — one of the best and biggest meals I ever had. And the coffee was fresh, hot and always filled as busy as it was that I had 3 cups :) Warm and friendly hospitality from the entire staff. No BS… this place knows how to make damn good breakfast!

Absolutely outstanding!!! Service, food, and atmosphere all were mind blowing! The menu is huge so I suggest taking some time to view it online before arriving. So many things to eat, so little stomach space! Huge portions with slam dunk flavors and to top it off, our server Carla was super sweet and attentive while juggling a full house! I can’t wait to go again! We left a little while ago, and we are still talking about how amazing everything was. If you pass up this gem, bummer for you, cause you’re truly missing out!

I have been wanting to try this place for a while now, but it is hard for us to swing by because they close at 2pm and our work schedule usually doesn’t allow it. Today we were out early so we stopped by. The parking is a little snug. Even when it’s not so busy, there is limited parking. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a smile. The staff seems very helpful and friendly. We were seated with menus and asked for our drink order. The menu is very extensive! My husband and I had heard so much about the chicken fried steak that we knew we had to try it(it’s what we grew up on). Like all the Unilocalers have said, the helping are large! Even the drinks are large! Our meal was more tha. enough to split. We also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy again because we heard people rave about them. The actual cfs was good. It was tender and cooked just right. I prefer a little more batter ony cfs, but it was just right for my husband. The gravy and mashed potatoes were a little bland for me. I do like that they use real potatoes; they were chunky just the way I like them. I did really like the green beans. The onions gave them a good flavor. The biscuits were big and cakey. I am more partial to the flakier kind. It’s more of a preference than a negative. But for me, like the potatoes and gravy, they were on the blander side. Overall, the service was great and quick and ths food was alright. I would like to return to try some of there other menu options when we have a chance.

What a great find! The place is very quaint and has a very warm, cozy atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious. The Western Omelette was fluffy with really good flavor. Country potatoes were flavorful with diced onions. The service was outstanding. We would definitely go back. The location of the restaurant was not in the center of Bakersfield so it was busy but not overly crowded.

We love this place! Great food every time we go in. All the servers and staff are very friendly and quick. I always get the Lonnie’s special hash brown; they add cheese and bacon to your hash browns. So. Good. One of my husband and my favorites places to eat. Watch out for those mornings though, crowded!

This has been ago to place for a great breakfast and lunch spot if you hit it just right and it’s not overflowing with diners. This time we timed it right got a seat right away. Took awhile for someone to acknowledge that we were there but once that happened we were all good. There menu is all comfort food with enormous portions. *sigh* so I opted for a grilled cheese on sourdough with fries and a dr. Pepper. My husband chose the French burger with a salad with ranch. Hi salad was brought out first and it was a nice size with dressing on the side. He said it was fine but didn’t finish it. Our meals followed in a decent amount of time. Our drinks were in these I think 42oz cups so no refills needed here. My husband said the French burger head too much bread so he opted to eat it with a knife and fork. Said it tasted ok just too much bread. My grilled cheese looked like they used plastic cheese and it was dry as a bone. A few bites and I was done the fries were the only thing I like along with my soda. Maybe we’ll stick to breakfast.

I cannot love this place more than I already do. We keep coming back and they keep surpassing us with their friendly quick service and amazing food. We have had breakfast and lunch and are never disappointed. I have had their breakfast burrito a few times and it’s even good the next day. Gravy is amazing!!! Homemade biscuits so yummy! Their burgers and sandwiches are wonderfully. Their corn ball things(not sure what they are called, fritters maybe?) are so good! The waitress kept saying we should try them with syrup and we kept saying no thanks, they were great with honey butter. Finally she brought us the syrup to try. Oh thank you ma’am! So good! Both ways. She was right! Their service is quick and efficient. We never went without drinks even when they were busy. And we have yet to go when they weren’t packed. Earlier in the morning, later in the morning, early afternoon, later afternoon. They are always packed but that does not slow them down! You may have to wait a bit. Sometimes we’ve had to wait 15 – 30 minutes but once you are seated the wait is almost nothing. They have a groupon which we used once and it saved us a little odd our meal. But price wise I cannot complain. We have gone with 3 adults and two children(that eat like adults) and our meal was less than $ 50 plus tip. I cannot find anywhere where we can sit down and feed my two hungry boys for that price. Love love love this place!!!

Very nice local joint. I come here every time I visit my grandma in Bakersfield. We love this place! It has a small town family environment, and the food is always good and at a reasonable price. Last time, we went around lunch during the week and had no problem getting a table. They were also very fast with our order. I would definitely recommend!

Imagine the excitement on my face disappear as I come to find out this highly rated restaurant was just another one of those family-run diners that served average-tasting food with slightly more than average portions. Dammit, Bakersfield. Don’t get me wrong, the place itself was pretty nice despite being easy to miss on the road. You have that nice, homestyle feel and rustic décor. We sat in the«reject» room though, the small addition in the back of the restaurant, which is probably why I want to justify the service was slow and less than spectacular for us. As a carbaholic, the biscuits and gravy hit the riiiight spot and their hashbrowns were HUGE. I had the chicken fried steak while my bf had the NY steak … for breakfast. Heavy on the stomach but yanno, that NY steak was actually really tasty. Everything else was just ‘okay’ and a bit on the bland side. Those portions for the price is literally the only star factor of this place, so naturally this doubled as dinner for us. I don’t hate this place but I don’t exactly love it. Probably would come back if I was too lazy to make breakfast when I’m in the area.

Huge portions of ok food. Got the Chicken fried steak and tasted mainly of pepper. The gravy? Pepper. The steak? Pepper. The eggs? Pepper. Not a terrible taste but lacking in variety. My wife got a veggie scramble and the eggs were rubbery while the veg was mushy. I feel like I’m making it sound worse than it is. It’s not a bad meal but not a great one either. The portions are enormous so you might consider splitting a plate. But overall not really my cup of tea. Then again, perhaps I got them on a bad day.

What a breakfast! Tons of food for the money. We both got pancakes with eggs and sausage; I had fresh strawberries on top. Amazingly good— this will be our breakfast spot when in Bakersfield! In a city that values breakfast, this stands out. Don’t miss this place.

I dont know why my review never posted for this fine establishment. We come to this place often and it is always busy. Their breakfast is outstanding and the portions are out of control. For lunch they have a great menu and their burgers are large and very delicious. The bun could use a nice toasting but overall a great meal. This restaurant is out of the way but definately worth the drive if you want to have a great meal at a reasonable price.
