Best Mexican food in Bakersfield hands down. My office was a block away from this place for 11 years so I ate here weekly. My clients and friends who ate here also agree it is great. Although it is no longer on 19th street, I am told it has moved to a new location.

Sadly, this awesome little restaurant has closed. The location is currently being remodeled to open as a completely different restaurant. If anyone knows if this family plans to re-open somewhere else please get it posted — I miss their delicious food!

This little restaurant has really won me over. Very friendly family-run business. Good chips and salsas. Try the fish taco or their chicken Caesar salad for a lighter lunch. Expect to save some $$ over similar Mexican food in the area. The neighborhood is fine, I can’t believe an actual Unilocaler would expect some yuppified el torito ambiance.

This is a typical lunch spot for me when I’m downtown. The food is great, but the wait can be long during peak lunchtime. The routine here is order at the front counter, get your chips and soda, move to the salsa bar to fill up on mild, hot, or fresh salsas, find a seat, and wait for your order. The closer to 11:30am to 12:00pm, the longer your wait. The chips are freshly made, thin, and crunchy. The salsa is on point, with the hot salsa having lots of heat and the fresh salsa being amazingly fresh. The fajitas are my favorite dish, especially the shrimp variety with their perfectly fluffy shrimp. I’ve also sampled their regular tacos and enchiladas, both of which are also on par with the other sit down Mexican restaurants around town. The downside? Long wait times if you’re on a limited lunch time and the benches in the booths are harder than expected.

My family and I tried this place and were severely disappointed. We were the last table to be served after waiting about 40 minutes and when we brought it to the attention of our waitress, she said the other tables had phoned in their order before arriving – a blatant lie, as I saw them handed menus when they arrived. The pupusas tasted like nothing and had to be heavily garnished with salsa and veggies until palatable. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on the terrible customer service and mediocre food.

My lunch partner loves this place, but I just don’t get it. The food is a little bland. It isn’t bad or great, it is consistently average. I’ve had chile verde nachos, fajitas, serval different Fortas and it’s just ok. I am not sure if I am ordering the wrong things or what. Service has always been friendly, the prices are great and the boss seems to enjoy it so I’m sure it’ll stay in the lunch rotation.

This would have 5 stars if the customer service was a little better. The food definitely made up for the lack of customer service. They did not skimp out on the shrimp(I had tacos and my boyfriend had the burrito) the shrimp tasted fresh off the coast and the bursts of flavor were like a party in my mouth! I will definitely be coming back.

This seemed like a nice place to have lunch. My first taste of the bland Pico de Gallo made me think otherwise. Overall it was a fair place to eat. I added some salsa to spice the food up. The ambience was nice. The chili verde burrito was nice. I’ll probably come back and try something else.

Tried this place because of all the good Unilocal reviews and we were severely disappointed. The prices were about the same as our favorite place, El taquito, but the portions were about half the size. I got nachos with steak, and the boyfriend got a steak burrito. Something they use to flavor their steak tastes just like ketchup. I’ve literally never had any mexican food that tasted remotely like that. It was pretty bad. The inside of the place itself was ok. The little bar inside was cute, and they had a tv. But it was pretty empty when we stopped by and the girl behind the counter seemed really annoyed about having to take our order.

Good food. Fast, but in a crap part of town.

This place is a gem. They have the best chile verde ever. Spicy and delicious. I can further attest that everything I have tried has been delicious. Enchiladas, burritos, taco salad. Chicken, ground beef, chile verde. Amazing. Chips and salsa are also yum. Service is awesome. Prices are super affordable. I can’t recommend this place enough. You will not regret stopping by.

Quality food at a pay at the counter place, walking distance from the court house so if you have jury duty this is the place for lunch

Completely hidden spot downtown. It’s on a one-way street where parking can be tough, so don’t blink or you’ll miss it! I’m on the eternal hunt for a quick and easy lunch place. I had spotted large groups of people heading in to Costa Del Sol on a few occasions. I made a mental note to check them out and added it to my Unilocal Bookmark list. Ordering is done at the counter, which is always quick. There’s a few registers that they’ll open up if the line gets more than a few people deep. I appreciate their speediness on my lunch hour. The food is decent and fresh. I always opt for their salads which are too large for me to finish on my own. Sometimes the chicken can be fatty and stringy, but it’s not a huge dealbreaker for me. Be forewarned, the booths on one side appear much softer than they are. Take caution when approaching or you’ll be in for a surprise.

This place has been here for years and when I worked downtown it was my go to place for a good Mexican food lunch. It’s on 19th street so it’s that one way street that makes it awkward to get to but worth the hassle of trying to get a parking spot. I always get my favorite go to of cheese enchilada, rice and beans which never ever disappoints here. But today my friend and I were not too hungry so we decided to share a meal. We chose the chicken Caesar wrap which was really good. It came in a spinach flour tortilla, or I’m assuming that because it was green and when I buy them they are. It was full of chopped grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and a Caesar dressing. Very very good and BIG. When you come in you order at the counter, there is no table service and they give you a tray with chips and dishes for your salsa that you fill up at the salsa bar in the dining room. There is two kinds, pico de gallo and regular blended smooth salsa. Both very good I mixed them. Also you serve yourself your own drink, this is why I’m only giving this place a 4 star because I like table service. When your food is ready they do deliver it to your table. Also I see in the dining room a full bar, which I’m assuming it’s functional for happy hour and dinner or if you wanted a cocktail. There is a TV on over the bar for sports viewing enjoyment too. The ambiance is typical of any Mexican restaurant and is always clean and usually full of people when we are here. I think you wouldn’t be disappointed.

We were looking for a place to eat downtown and we discovered this place. It is a walk up, order your food, sit and wait-enjoy your chips and drink, and food is brought to you shortly. We really enjoyed the food. We got plenty of food and drinks for 19 dollars. The burrito was biggest burrito I have ever seen, which my husband, Which came with chips. I had green chile verde enchiladas with beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream. The enchiladas were so yummy. BTW, We took half of the food home! This place puts places like Los Hermanos and Que Pasa to shame.

Excellent lunch spot with good food and friendly staff. Everything I have tried is good, especially the Mexican Ceasar Salad and the tostadas

Nifty little downtown Mexican spot that’s surprisingly nice inside, given the plain wrap front. Had a very nice veggie burrito that was fresh and well-prepared. Busy at lunchtime for a definite reason! Cute little bar area, nice décor… worth trying when you’re in the area. Very comprehensive menu, including several Salvadorean specialties. I thought their guacamole and chips were excellent and the portion was large to boot. Try it and enjoy!

Good food and menu. The burritos are under $ 6 and are a good size. Need to try more items. Seemed very busy at lunch time. A lot of people were eating their tostadas. Must try that next time.
