This place is mediocre at best. The bright fluorescent red bar in the back didn’t make up for the bad service. The only redeeming quality were the prepackaged mints at the end of the meal. Grab em on the way out!

After reading a few bad reviews with disgruntled people. I decided to stop by and check the place out. Fresh paintings adorn the walls and makes you feel at home with the employees greeting you. I came in for their brunch with coworker since we are here for company business. At $ 8.95 for buffet. That is reasonably good when you have carnitas, tacos de papa(hard shelled potato tacos), and chicken fajitas to choose from. Along with plenty more items I was done with two plates. If I am in the area in the near future this is one place I need to come back to. Gorgeous gal works there greeting customers. :-)

This place is so good! I’ve only ever been during the lunch hour, but have had their buffet and lunch specials. The food is delicious and the service is awesome. Not to mention the price: $ 8 buffet, drink included. They offer the typical Mexican entrees(rice, beans, enchiladas, etc.) but also offer a few truly authentic entrees, which change on a daily basis. Oh man, I’m hungry

New location on Ming is wonderful. Draws nice crowd both family atmosphere and great bar scene. I recommend happy hour menu very unique and playful. Best Cadillac Margaritas in town. The ambience throughout is great for any occasion. Has outdoor seating with great décor. I recommend the fish quesadillas and the chicken nachos good for sharing.

Love this place. I order the same thing all the time, seafood enchiladas. It’s so good I haven’t moved to anything else. The staff is awesome and has always been so courteous and wonderful. Their second location is closer to my house but I love the original plus the bean and rice portions are better as well. Good salsa and Margarita! Of you have an event at the Rabobank good first stop. I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. And on the weekdays their lunch specials are good and at a great price.

Was very disappointed when I left this restaurant. In the beginning everything was OK. Besides the chips that tasted like they had been fried in old oil. After they brought our food no one ever came to check on us, me and my sister sharing a drink because no one came to refill hers. After we were done eating we waited 15 minutes to get our check! I actually had to get up myself and go get someone to bring my check and also the check for the table behind us! 5 minutes later they finally did. But a table with a group of 4 next to us kept getting service every 5 minutes and the waiter never acknowledged us.(Not being dramatic either) I will never come to this restaurant again.

I’m in the area for work and needed a place to eat lunch so I decided to come here with some friends. I got the fajita salad and it was delicious. My friends seemed happy with their food as well, and best part is, we had plenty of time to eat and go back to work because the food came out pretty quickly. I came back for happy hour and had a good experience again. Cheap and good margaritas and tacos!

I have to say that I’ve given this place a second chance, just like a bad love affair. Maybe love is better the second time around? I have been impressed by the superb service, wonderful happy hour until 9pm! The food is ok, what I had been happy hour food, the tacos are good with their hot and secret sauce made with habanero, but one must ask for it. The rest of the food has been ok, nothing to brag about. This place is exceptional for cheap eats and drinks while on happy hour, other that that, I’d doubt I’d dine here. Needless, to say, I’m a regular now, I’m here on a weekly basis and look forward to continued patronage of this establishment.

Great Service — constantly checked in /very receptive to our requirements — food was served in very reasonable time and good food — had the Grande Taco — carnetas and the wife had Chile Relino — not bad — not the best — but a good meal — the margaritas was good too:)

Always pleased with this place every time I come. Normally, when I find something I like, I order it every time, but here I have ordered something different every time. Not once have I been disappointed! My favorite would be a tie between the chile verde(quesadilla or fries) and the shrimp tacos.

I’ve been to this restaurant many times. I’ve always been happy with the results. Sometimes the service is questionable. As if the right hand has nothing to do with the left. Other times it was perfect. Here’s what I’ve found out about this restaurant. If you call and make a reservation for a large party, no one will have any idea what you’re talking about when you arrive. When the arena across the street they will not have a Happy Hour. Unfortunately they are very inconsistent with the rule. The more people you serve, the more money you will make. It’s simple math. It’s day one of business 101. If you have Drink and Food Specials you will make more money as well. They also get very busy when an event is at the arena. I guess when they get busy they run out of cups. It was so tacky of them to serve drinks in plastic cup. You come for a nice dinner and you end up drinking from plastic cups. Here’s a helpful hint. Buy more cups and hire a dishwasher. We also noticed that the portion size of a few dishes diminished. Shrinking portions, no specials, along with below average service make me an unhappy diner. I’ve always been that type of person to give you several chances to improve. Maybe you just had an off night. Maybe someone called in and the staff is short. Many things can happen to make your experience less then enjoyable. I get it, things happen. However in this case, I’ve given this restaurant multiple opportunities to correct their problems. Each time I go it’s something different that is inconsistent from the time before. I’m hoping the next time I go, they have their inconsistencies figured out. I’ll definitely keep you posted.

I work just down the street so we frequent this place and I can’t really say bad things about it. The hostess is always super friendly, the servers are nice and efficient, and the buffet always has the regular/traditional buffet options(rice, beans, cheese enchiladas, chile verde, and fajitas) but they also have a bunch of other options including albondiga soup, salad, desserts, ceviche, pork and fish/shrimp options. Every day. I’ve been enough times to know that their food is consistent and their service is good as well. Still, I frequent this location because the food is good and the location is simply very convenient. Close enough to walk to. AND buffet + drink for under ten bucks. Can’t ask for much more!

When you first come in you think, wow, kind of divey. The staff was really friendly. The drinks were really good and the food was pretty good too. It wasn’t very busy and of course that helped.

Very average Mexican food. I had the carne asada. It came with a cheese enchilada, rice and beans. The steak had not been marinated and was on the tough side. Everything else was pretty good. If I were to come back, I would try one of the house specialties. That may be a better choice.

My husband and I come here for date nights. We sit at the bar and drink and order food from the happy hour menu which is delicious! We usually get tacos de asada and chile verde fries which are great ! The service has been exceptional all the time we come and the Bartender is always very attentive and his drinks are amazing! Can’t wait to come and try the food from the menu. And the best part happy hour is all DAYLONG! Pretty cool if you ask me!

This is the 2nd time we’ve been here for lunch to celebrate a birthday in the last month, so there’s been large groups, 13 – 19 each time. At this visit, my friend asked the host to seat 12 of us & he seemed bothered by it. One more of us showed up & he said, «Is there anyone else showing up?!?» Dude-relax. I normally don’t get buffets because I feel like everyone’s breathing all over the food. but everyone else was getting it so I felt it would be easier if I did, as well. Everything was bland. Bland, I tell ya! From the enchiladas to the meatball soup(albondiga soup)…(especially the soup).to the battered fish. The fajitas were cold & the fruit was mushy. Felt rushed-they picked up our plates and gave us our tickets right after. Haha. Like no more refills for you guys. We were in and out in 35 minutes! I get fast service but this felt rushed. The type of rush where they want you to leave. The service −4÷10 The food-5/10 I won’t be back for a while.

Rating Mexican food is always difficult for me. In an area where every other restaurant is Mexican, or Mexican-inspired, everyone is bound to have their favorites. The«best Mexican in Bakersfield» has often been up for debate in the local Talk threads, and there’s never been any clear-cut winners. Maybe because Mexican is like«American». It’s an interpretation. Each place having their own specialties. We’re lucky to live in such a diverse area where a multitude of regional dishes abound. Unfortunately, Sol Y Luna falls short of being one of my favorites and lands on par with all the other ‘good-but-not-great’ Mexican. There’s nothing that makes this place stand out from the rest. I didn’t see any specialties, but that may be my error. I’ve tried a few dishes, but the best of the bunch were the Fish Tacos. I would give these 4 stars alone. The fish was moist and tender, the sauce just spicy enough. Two tacos were plenty for me, but a full grown man may need more. I noticed both tables beside me had ordered the fish tacos, too. I guess I’m not the only one that likes these tacos. The service is pleasant, but sometimes hard to get someone’s attention. Of the handful of times we visited, twice I had to flag someone down to get a refill. I really hate asking for service. The place is large and I’ve never had a problem getting a table. This would be a great option for a business lunch, or for taking a group of people.
