Well it’s the second trip for us as I was in the mood for some Mexican spice, and besides my husband loves their Chile Rellenos. I heard they make awesome Peach Margaritas(from another Unilocal review) and they do. And the chips and salsa were great too. We then ordered the Chile Rellenos dinner, as well as something different(the Carnitas) and we shared both. The rice was perfect as were the beans. The Carnitas are even better than the Chile Verde I had during our first visit and so tender and flavorful. Yeah I know they aren’t exactly cheap like many other places but the food is always worth it.

I had shrimp sautéed in garlic with spicy Diabla sauce, the food was amazing and completely authentic, the cucumber margarita was refreshing with just the right amount of alcohol. Service was top notch, can’t wait to go back. Great environment, really good music, all in all great dining experience.

Nice bar. Nice people that work there, however I ordered fish tacos(recommended by the manager) & it was the worst dinner I’ve ever had. One thing to be burnt, but quite another that the fish obviously frozen and then microwaved. Those fish patties looked like something you get from the frozen section of Costco. They didn’t even heat it up right lol With that being said, I would give the place another try because they have good people working there & they make a killer skinny cucumber margarita.

I almost hate to give this place a good review because they may get too busy but I sure want them to stay around. The food was delicious. Chile Verde and Arroz con Pollo was what we ordered. And don’t miss out on their house margarita on the rocks. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars was the service. The waiter wasn’t very attentive.

I really wanted to love this place. My best friend and her husband ate her and immediately insisted that we needed to eat here asap. She told us about the Valentine’s special, so we dedicated to check it out after a movie. We did the steak and shrimp Valentine’s special. It was a great deal; the two steak and shrimp entrees and two margaritas for $ 30 sounded good to us. The service was good at times. Our waitor came by several times but kept forgeting to bring water. The chips and salsa were good. Salsa had a good flavor to it. The margaritas were excellent. The best part of the entrée were the shrimp. They were perfectly cooked and had a great flavor. The steaks were good, but didn’t have a lot of flavor. The biggest disappointment was the rice. Some of it was hard like it had been sitting for a while. I know we ate steak and shrimp at a Mexican restaurant, so we will have to come back and try out the other selections. We also came in at 7:30 for dinner and they locked up the front door as we were finishing up our meal. So with all that, maybe we just caught them at not the best moment. I want to go back and try the chili verde since several other Unilocalers have talked about it and it is one of my favorite things.

Stopped for lunch while driving thru Bakersfield. Staff were so friendly and the service was very good! The food was excellent!!! I had Chicken Fajitas and my husband had Chicken Quesadilla. Both were so delicious and seasoned perfect! Chips and fresh salsa were really tasty and not too spicy– but just right! Next time we come thru Bakersfield, we will definitely be back for more awesome food!

We had the whole place to ourselves and had a really great time. The food was stellar! I had a tamale and taco combo that was wonderful. I will definitely be back here. The waiter told us about a Sunday brunch that sounds amazing. He was very knowledgable about the food that was being served. Great place!

I had the chile verde burrito from the lunch menu and that was a great choice. Chips & salsa were on point. The restaurant is small & intimate but hopefully soon they expand. Shortly after we arrived(during the lunch hour) & were promptly seated a lot of people started getting there, although there wasn’t enough seating the waiters seemed very accommodating. I’ll be back soon ;)

Small quaint and not your chain Mexican Restaurant. Chili Verde bean dip was amazing!!! So amazing that I ordered chili verde with rice and beans! My husband had the carnitas which of course I had to try for myself. Amazing! My new place to go eat Mexican!!!

I’d totally give this place 5 stars if they pulled the tails off the shrimp in the fajitas. I don’t know what it is, but I hate digging in to the food to pull off the tail to put it in my tortilla. Other than that, everything was delicious, service was great as well.

Came here with a friend for lunch. The atmosphere is intimate, warm and slightly upscale, and our server was friendly and attentive. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced, and there were several tempting options. Food came out almost immediately. Yay! I had enchiladas suizas and my friend had the chili verde burrito. Chili verde must be a specialty here. I tried it, and that alone will bring me back here. So why four stars and not five? Stale chips and watery beans. Not bad enough to keep me from returning though. I see a date night with my husband here in the future.

Since I lived in Mexico I am now very particular about Mexican restaurant food. The food at this restaurant is absolutely excellent. The service is excellent. We will very definitely return. Delicious tamal, enchilada, rice and beans. The wife had their special tostada with beef and loved it. We cannot wait to try other things on the menu.

Our first visit of many to come! Very friendly, Cozy décor… Small but they had a banquet room working for a larger party! We had great drinks, and fantastic service! The salsa was good, the guacamole was excellent! Husband had the chile verde and claims it’s the best he’s had in a long while! It was so good, he got and extra order to go! I had the chicken fajitas and they had great flavor! Lots of food! We will be regulars!

Really great food. Haven’t had red mole like that since my mom’s…and she makes a hell of a mole. Love the cozy feel and gorgeously remodeled given the age of the building. The owner/bartender/waiter is the best. I would go back just to hang out with him again. Wish their name was catchier, because I’m afraid part tons wouldn’t be drawn in, but I hope I’m wrong and these folks stay open for a very long time

Best place to eat in town, tried a few items on the menu and i loved every single one of them, best place togo for your lunch, service is reallyfast everything is made fresh as i have tried a million places in town and nothing compares to this one, mexican food like no other. The drinks at the bar are one of a kind, the owner is very friendly and cares about all his customers and greets them with care. Feels like your at home when eatting there my menu item was the enchilada del mar a combination of fresh sea food cooked and served to perfection with a side of fresh beans and rice. Will be coming here more often, thank you all staff from the red grill onions, best experience ive had at a resturant. –lks

I visited two days in a row to make sure this was a five star experience.(I do it for you, kids!) Now, there’s no question about it; five stars are well deserved. Kevin P first told me about this place as it’s quite near his downtown office. Parking can be tricky. Street parking is 50⁄50. I like to take my chances in the Kern Superintendent of Schools parking structure where there’s always a chance at a spot and there’s security cameras. Plus it’s only half a block a way. The restaurant is super small. Nestled in between that giant renovated bank on Chester and a salon, this is definitely one of those places you have to search for. On both visits we were immediately greeted by friendly servers, not just one, but all of the servers on the floor smiled and welcomed us. There’s only about 10 tables in the whole dining room, with a large bar centered in the middle. A nicely stocked bar, I might add. Maybe I was delirious with hunger, but this place may just have the best chips and salsa in town. Seriously! The chips were thick and flaky — almost like a hybrid between a flour and corn tortilla chip. The salsa was obviously fresh, with loads of thick cut onions and peppers. The heat between the two days was a little different, but that only confirmed my theory that the salsa was fresh made each day. The first day I had menu anxiety and ordered the first thing I saw: a chicken quesadilla. While it was a delightful quesadilla with marinated chicken, thick gooey cheese and a fluffy tortilla — it’s probably not the best representation of their culinary skills. This next time, I tried their Enchilada Blanca on the lunch specials menu. The same marinated chicken graced the interior of this enchilada, with thick savory white sauce. It was quite good, and with a side of veggies that were cooked to the perfect al dente texture, it was a nice rice & bean alternative. I had a bite of Kevin P’s chile verde burrito which was fantastic. Totally different than some of the other chile verde’s in town; this will definitely be my next pick off their lunch menu. Service is impeccable. This is the kind of customer service that all restaurants should emulate. All servers were going out of their way to make sure patrons were happy. At the end of our lunch we were even offered to-go cups with soda.(A To-Go soda is a sure-fire way to this diet-coke lover’s heart!). Next time you’re downtown and looking for a great little restaurant with super friendly servers, try the Red Grill Onion. Just save me a spot!
