FLICS is the place to see international and independent films that are not shown any where else in Bakersfield. The films shown are well written and differ from the Hollywood formula of having numerous explosions and shootings. My friends and I always have discussions after the movies, which range from«What?» to «Wow!»

An amazing break from the run of the mill«blockbusters» at local theaters. Flics brings great movies to Bakersfield you might not have seen otherwise, at least not in a theater setting. Most movies are not rated for the whole family so make sure you check the rating before you take the kids.

FLICS takes the world-weary traveler on an international journey to explore distant lands, discover exotic cultures and languages, and enjoy breath-taking landscapes.(All from the comfort of their plush, red velvet seat!) Phil Neufeld’s thirty year FLICS saga guarantees the young and the young at heart a movie going experience that will not soon be forgotten. Housed in the historic Fox Theatre, FLICS extends a celluloid hand to its patrons and returns them to an age where substance still matters. A definite must-see!

Where else can you see 17 films for only $ 60 season pass? This is the best entertainment deal in town. These films don’t show anywhere else in town; this really elevates our cultural discourse. Films come from all over the world. Sometimes they’re in English, but more often they have subtitles. FLICS often gets films that are Oscar nominated, but never play at the major theaters locally. We saw Sophie Scholl here. And My Mom Likes Women. And sooooo many others. We didn’t love them all, but we enjoyed most of them! The Fox is the perfect venue, too. This old theater supports the whole cultural thing happening with these films. Concessions are a little expensive, but it’s very comfortable and there are plenty of seats. FLICS will report a rating that has been given to a film, but many international films do not have them. I like that, frankly, nobody cares. If your kid can read subtitles, fine. We will ALWAYS have season passes.
