Fresh Donuts

This donut shop is tucked way back in the corner of a strip center on White Lane. They certainly don’t get much foot traffic, though they’ve certainly made some effort to advertise their wares. We were greeted as with entered the store by an Asian woman whom I assume is the proprietor. Mom and I began to peruse the donut selection and in less than a minute we heard «You want dozen?» No thank you, we said, and tried to keep looking for our donut choices. «More cheaper.» she said with a big smile, but once again our reply was no thanks.
Not even another thirty seconds went by before we heard «Buy 5 get 1 free?» Now we were starting to get annoyed. «NO THANK YOU.» I said firmly.
«You want free donut?» This lady just does not give up. I shook my head vigorously. «You NO want FREE DONUT?» Now, how did she manage that look of extreme surprise and judgement? Had we not made it clear yet that we would choose our own donuts, both type and number, as we saw fit?
«How about hot chocolate, smoothie? More better for you!» Let’ just say that if this wasn’t one of the LAST donut stores in all of Bakersfield that I hadn’t written a Unilocal review for yet we would both have walked out at this point. My mom turned to me and said «Be sure to mention in your review that she was uncomfortably pushy» I know that in the donut business you survive don’t make much on each individual sale, but trying to push more product on me over and over and over is like beating a dead horse. Make one attempt to upsize my order and then move on.
The glazed donut was just okay, not bad but nothing special. The sugar coated was much better, fresher, fluffier, with a better mouth feel and a better taste. Would I EVER come back here? No on your life. Breakfast is supposed to be a refreshing and relaxing meal, not a wrestling match between consumer and clerk. If I want some WWE action I’ll pick up my remote and start surfing my satellite television for it.

I don’t know what it is about their glazed doughnuts, but it’s like if I could eat them all day and not gain weight believe me I would. The owners are super cute and friendly and they have crushed ice soda! A large is a dollar and everytime I go in (usually in the afternoon) there is no one in there. I have yet to sit down and enjoy the place, but it’s a place I would hide away at. And plus… they have free wi-​fi!
