This is truly a gem! For as much as I have always loved Jake’s, I just can not get past today’s Taco Salad. I had croutons added to the salad because I’m not a Frito/Chip fan. About four bites into the salad, I bit into the BURNT croutons. Yuck!!! It wasn’t just one, it was every one of them! I couldn’t eat any more of the salad because I could not get the taste out of my mouth. This was a ToGo order and when I tried to call the phone just rang. The cake however looks as appetizing as always. I picked up a piece of their Lemon~Vanilla cake also which smell so aromatic that it reminded me of spring. The taste was just as luscious as the chocolate. So sorry for the 2 today Jake’s but I hope if I return it will be a better meal experience

I love this place. They have great tri-tip, the best 1000 Island dressing anywhere, chocolate cake that is the best I’ve ever had, chili is great. In fact all of the food is great. What makes this place so good though is the people. They have assembled the best staff. Their employees stay long term which shows they are a quality company and know how to treat people. I will be a loyal customer always.

Traveled back to Bakersfield a few weeks ago, and had to update my review. Jake’s is possibly the best restaurant in that whole city. The barbecue is great. Get a burrito, and don’t forget the chocolate cake. Seriously.

Let me tell you Jake’s tex mex has the best deep pit around I love going here but it’s very very very busy and the chocolate cake is to die for you just want to get one grab two because you want to take one home so if you never been here give them a try the right off Oakstreet but the parking is terrible

I placed an order for a wedding about one month in advance. The lady that helped us was great and very attentive. We ordered for 40 people which was way more than the attending the wedding. The food was great-everything was tasty and came with huge portions of sides like salsa, BBQ, and salad dressing. The ordered was delivered on time and the driver even helped us with heating the food in heating dishes. Overall, they did a great job and will be ordering again for catering.

I didn’t remember this place being so good. I remember loving the cake and the cookies, but I didn’t remember liking the rest of the food. That all changed today. I ordered the taco salad with chicken and beef: it was delicious! I would order it again tonight if I didn’t already have so much left over because of the portions here. Truly, this place was on point for lunch today.

It’s almost a requirement for a Bakersfield resident to like Jake’s Tex-Mex and I fall in line. The food is pretty consistent and can fill a real comfort food craving. The taco salad is perfect for tricking yourself into thinking you’re eating something healthy and sure is delicious. The popularity of this cafeteria style restaurant can clearly be seen by their packed parking lot and sometimes hard to find seating. I have driven over for lunch before only to leave because there was no parking available. I think the location makes it a popular destination for lunch so try it during the less busy dinner hours.

Good authentic Tex Mex and delightful cafeteria service” Got to love this family oriented approach to Tex Mex. Join the folk ordering from off the wall menus as move to the staff dishing up your selections. Several choices of BBQ, chili beans, corn bread or try the dinner salads. We had cold beers and took home a piece of chocolate sheet cake for later. Love the place and recommend you stop in for a delicious meal.

I love Jake’s! The employees are always nice and the portions are always huge! It’s always busy but the line moves quickly so there’s no complaint from me there. The parking though? It sucks! The lot is tiny and I almost always end up parking a block away and have to walk over. Yet still, this goes to show that the food is worth the walk and the wait. My favorites are the chicken, pit beef, and tri-tip in that order. The potato casserole is good as well as the tri-tip chili, the chili beans(with their delicious jalapeño cornbread! Yum!) along with every side I’ve had. Everything is good. Their salads are tasty with many mix-in options as well! Their desserts are simple but so good! Chocolate cake, yellow cake and cookies. How can you go wrong? The cake is moist and the frosting decadent! Yuuuummm! The awesome thing is they cater as well so you can have platters of their food at your next event! If you use them, invite me yeah?! Especially if you get some cake! Anyway, I love that it’s a local place and the service is fantastic! They pick up your trays for you, probably to shoo you out since they’re so busy but who can blame them?! Good food, not he cheapest(quality is always a little pricey, you get what you pay for) good service, crappy location/parking but overall a gem in town.

I would give them 5 stars except they are a little pricey. This establishment has been around since I was a kid and they have continually delivered great food through the years. I had the Tri-Tip sandwich with pico, my wife had the Taco Salad! Our meals were both very fresh and filling. I was pleasantly surprised when they offered me BBQ sauce in a small pre-warmed bottle that I could take to the table. The BBQ sauce was out of this world and made the Tri-Tip sand which.

So this place is a Bakersfield staple. My favorite is the pit beef and I get it just about every time but the tri tip is delicious too! Getting either of these in a sandwich with cheese on top is a great lunch option. For dinner we get the plates usually. As for their sides I have tried the cowboy potatoes(only good if you eat them there), the potato casserole(always good), garden salad(all toppings and tossed in the restaurant is perfect), and my husband loves their homemade macaroni salad. The cornbread is good but I get the plain one because I’m a sissy when it comes to spice. Then there is the cake… to say I LOVE the chocolate cake is an understatement. It’s so yummy and moist! The ratio of cake to icing is what makes it top notch for me. Love me some Jake’s Tex Mex!

Everything about this place is awesome! I saw it was right around the corner from my hotel and decided to give it a try… worth every penny! The vegetarian burrito is so unique and delicious — best part is the sweet corn! Their chips & guacamole also hit the spot. As a former vegetarian, I occasionally like to have a meatless day and really appreciated the thought they put into offering interesting meat-free options. All of the employees were really friendly and went above and beyond — even with my solo to-go order! Definitely wish we had one back home.

First of all– bravo on the ranch dressing on the vegetarian burritos… My only complaint is that there wasn’t sunflower seeds on every item on the menu. Second of all, the parm broccoli side dish was a little too… Parm broccoli. It was a hodgepodge of ingredients slathered in some white Mystery sauce that had no flavor. It reminded me of something my grandma wouldn’t make. Thirdly, I love taco salads. However I left completely unsatisfied with the plethora of bland ingredients on mine: garlic chicken, guac, sour cream, cheese, and Fritos. My only solace was the pico de gallo hot sauce of which used 4 containers of to offset the flavor. In all seriousness, good portions, nice service, and nice enough ambience. Poor flavor yields a gourmet version of Taco Bell in which my wallet will only prefer to get the latter.

Jakes is located on the East side of Oak Street between 18th and Truxtun Ave. parking is tight but available. They serve deep pit, chicken, tri tip, and fantastic sides. It is a little buffet style but the food lends itself to the style and you get it fast. Jakes is clean and sanitary. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Not a lot of kids here. They are kid friendly in attitude though. My daughter really liked it. The food is perfectly prepared and delicious. It is good olé stick-to-yer-ribs Kern County style Tex-Mex food. Everything is simple and feels like you are at an outdoor country barbeque. The main event for me is Jakes Cake! It is a sheet cake that comes in Chocolate and Lemon. The cake is moist and perfect and the butter-cream frosting is thick and heavy. Oh my goodness it is like crazy good! Remember, Jakes… Cakes… Sinfully good.

I am a huge Jake’s fan! I always get the same thing. Nachos. Always nachos! Why? Because they are amazing. I always get them with Fritos, garlic chicken, chili beans, salsa, cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. They are delicious! I could definitely eat the chicken on its own, but the nachos are too hard to resist. I can never leave Jake’s without dessert. Their original cake is good, but I’ve never been as crazy about it as other people. My first love was their chocolate chip cookies. They are absolutely perfect! I then graduated to cookie sandwiches, which are made of two chocolate chip cookies with their famous cake frosting between them. Delicious! I also recently tried their lemon cake and it was also amazing. I liked it far more than the chocolate cake. Jake’s is little more on the expensive side. The nachos are about $ 12, but they are worth it. Not to mention, an order of nachos can easily be split between two people. Jake’s can also get super busy. There is minimal seating so I usually call my order in and pick it up. That seems to be the best option.

It lives up to the hype! I moved to town recently and have been waiting to try the famous Jake’s and finally got the chance last week. It was bomb! I had a vegetarian burrito and a slice of chocolate cake. I had previously tried the cake at work and it is magical. Seriously. The best chocolate cake evar! My friend and I went on a Monday at 12:30 and the line was at the door. We moved through it fairly quickly and found a good spot to enjoy our meal. I want to come back and try the other menu items which I’m sure are just as good as my burrito was.

This place is delicious and fun. I usually get the nachos. It is cafeteria style service and seating. The parking lot sucks, but the décor is cute and clever. It is fun to come here once every few months, but it’s not my regular go to.
