Riverbend Bikes, Boards and Bites

Many Bakersfield residents are aloof to the fact that there is a thriving cycling community. Two such shops (Finish Line and Riverbend) sit upon the bike path so if ever you are in need of a mechanic or supplies, there is a shop readily available. I like to imagine that the two shops represent two sides of an economic spectrum: Finish Line is catered towards the more affluent residents of Bakersfield whereas Riverbend is more blue collar in scope.
Personally, I frequent all of the shops in Bakersfield and with differing reasons. Finish Line is «right there» by the bike path main entrance and conveniently carries many easy-​to-​get products like tubes that cost as much or less than even Sport Chalet [which are more able to offer lower prices given their size]. Action Sports is a good place if you want to invest in more high end bikes especially because they offer lifetime tuneups. For me, Riverbend is actually best for repairs and maintenance of products that the other stores will be less versed in.
Let me explain.
Riverbend has a wider breadth of customers who may own everything from a high end road bike to a Walmart BMX bike. That being said, Riverbend’s employees tend to be more knowledgeable from a pragmatic standpoint — they have experienced more, beseech learning, ergo, they can accomplish more.

George was awesome! He helped us get our bikes prepped for our trip to Joshua Tree. He’s knowledgable, helpful, honest and had some simple, yet great tips for us. For example we thought we needed a new bike seat, but he suggested we adjust the angle of the seat instead. He made a quick adjustment and the bike seat was as good as new. He could have easily just sold us a new bike seat and we wouldn’t have known better. He’s one cool cat. We really appreciate his help and would go back to Riverbend Bikes in a heartbeat. We recommend his services to casual and bike enthusiasts alike.

These guys are really great! My husband and I ordered a couple bikes through them. Through no fault of their own the wrong bikes were sent. But they worked with us to get us set up with some great bikes at the same price they originally promised, and gave us 10% off the helmets we bought too. Very happy with their service and our bikes!

Really friendly and thorough service. My bike tire was giving me problems, they said they would see what was up… A day later it was fixed. They explained what they did, we settled on a price (which was more than fair) and I was on my way. Happy to have a solid place to take my old 10 speed.

Tony helped fix my bike after it fell off our car on the freeway. He took the time to make sure my bike was safe and road ready for a 70 mile ride I had the next day. Great service and nice people!

There are plenty of bike shops in Bakersfield and before Riversbend opened I would hate having to go in to get my bike worked on.
90% of the time the other guys were well, snobby and sometimes rude. (You know it’s true) the guy is down to earth friendly and doesn’t make you feel like a idiot.

We took our son to the local skate park with his razor scooter so he could play around, and we noticed that the majority of kids had a different style of scooter. We asked where they got them (after looking at a few stores and not finding them) and they directed us down the road to Riverbend Bikes. We have been incredibly impressed with everyone that we’ve met there. We try to patronize local businesses whenever we can, but sometimes the local shops are just too expensive. Riverbend Bikes offered extremely competitive prices and exceptional service. A lot of shops try to push their expensive models, but they never pushed us to spend a lot — instead they directed us to the less expensive starter models and helped us find a quality scooter in our price range. They ordered it and called promptly when it came in. We will definitely be giving them all of our business from now on, and will happily recommend them to friends and family.

Our brakes stopped working while we were urban mushing on the bike path, and we saw this place so I took it in to figure out what was going on. It only took him about 5 minutes to adjust the brakes and the wheels, and they have worked fantastically ever since! When I asked how much I owed him he said don’t worry about it. We’ll definitely be giving this place our business in the future.

I ride my bike to work 8 miles everyday and this week I had a gear problem on the way into town. I took my bike to another shop in town and was very unimpressed with the service. I took my bike to Riverbend based on a referral and was treated awesome! They were very knowledgeable and helpful. I totally recommend Riverbend!
