One thing you miss when you leave San Diego is the California Burrito. Pretty much every taco shop in San Diego County has them on the menu but once you head north on the 5 past Oceanside, it disappears. What is this mythical food of the gods? It is basically a carne asada burrito with French fries and sour cream, which varies in amazing was based on the shop’s salsa selection. It is a simple combination, but an amazing one. Not long ago, Las Salsas put up a little sign under their menu advertising the San Diego burrito. No mistaking, it is actually a California burrito, and a dang good one at that! I hope they add it to their menu, because it’s awesome!

Love this place! The lengua burrito is a 10⁄10. The chips are great as well. Cool little restaurant tucked into the corner, eat here, you will not regret it.

Always very friendly wait staff, although not always fast at getting you out as they are usually very busy. Very good mexican food, but I’m disappointed they increased the price of tacos from 99c to 1.25 :( Cal burrito is tasty for lunch and they don’t charge me to add avocado…(shouldn’t a cal burrito already have it?)

I consider myself to be a burrito enthusiast, and what a let down this place is. The only saving grace was the chips but the salsa was terrible. I ordered a wet burrito with Carne asada. They managed to pack a whole cilantro plant in there along with thier bland steak which matches the salsa they offer. No amount of tapatio could cover up this joke of a cilantro burrito. The cilantro wasn’t even of good quality. The plates came out piping hot so heads up. There must be a severe stray cat problem because the parking lot reeked of cat feces which should of posed as a fair warning. All that aside it’s places like this that makes you really appreciate good mexican food. Avoid this place your better off at taco bell.

The tacos flavor wise are average but ok. The portions are really small so I personally wouldn’t go back.

This has become our favorite go to place for Mexican food. It’s a small place and can be crowded but it’s definitely worth the wait. Service is great, there is an entire self serve salsa bar and you can see the tortillas being made! That’s the kicker for me — homemade flour and corn tortillas! We’ve had a couple of different things but order anything where you get tortillas on the side… The corn tortillas were the best I’ve ever had! Very impressed by the food and the service!

Pretty good not bad for Bakersfield! You have many options to chose from. They have mole enchiladas and my husband likes the chile verde.

This is our favorite standby Mexican restaurant. The signage outside is lousy but inside you will find a bustling restaurant. There is awesome décor with old railroad and train photos in black-and-white. There is always festive colorful hanging flags. The restaurant is bustling and the staff keep up as much as they can. We usually go Sunday mornings for lunch. The parking lot has ample space and most of the cars are for this little restaurant. There are your typical tacos(pastor, asada, chicken, lengua etc) and tortas. They also have daily specials such as Chile Colorado, enchilada specials… Soup includes albondigas(meatball) soup. I really enjoy the lengua(tongue) tacos; these are shredded soft melting pieces of meat. Pastor is good as well. Most entrée plates come with a generous serving of rice and beans. Carne asada fries are great too. They also serve horchata. At the side is a bar with all different types of salsa. You grab a bowl and help yourself. The pico de gallo always has a nice kick to it with the chopped jalapenos. I always get some of that to add to my salsa mix. Another favorite is the green avocado-y salsa. It’s spicy too! The menudo is served on weekends only. It comes with 2 of their homemade fresh tortillas in either flour or corn as well as the sides of diced onions, cilantro and a lime wedge for putting into your soup. Order the guacamole which comes with fresh tortilla chips. These chips are pillowy… there’s no other word to describe it. I am in love with the tortilla maker. She is this sweet grandmotherly type and you can even tip her in her tip jar. It’s fun to watch the doughy balls be rolled out and then formed into tortillas. She makes them like I imagine an abuela would… with love!

I got the chicken villa and my hubs got the carne asana plate. Both were great. The chips and salsa were great too. We got fast service and excellent food.

Very good Mexican food. They start you off with chips and some salsa, both homemade. I ordered the Chile Colorado burrito, which was big and flavorful, with a Diet Pepsi, and it came out to less than $ 11! My only criticisms would be that there wasn’t a lot of meat in the burrito(mostly on the ends), and the restaurant itself is kind of small with limited seating. Overall very good!

Service is good. They came right away to give me a menu and got me and my daughter our drinks. My toddler made a mess and as sorry as I was the waiter cleaned it up for me. Toddlers for you. I was happy with the service the food was a so so for me. My rice was very mushy too much for my liking. The taco meat was ok… Anyways I would maybe be back for something else off the menu.

A couple key factors that went into the 4 star review. I ordered to go, so customer service was not a huge factor in my review. My initial feeling of the place was, hole in the wall, risky place to eat, not a nice overall parking lot. I am sort of a prude I like to be pampered, and feel safe when I go somewhere. There was a serious wait for people wanting to sit down and eat, easily 5 parties sitting outside, but all were talking about how good the food was and the wait was totally worth it. When I walked in it is very close quarters, it is not spread out at all, and not a clear direct path to the register to make a to go order. OKSOTHEFOOD, Come on we all know it is what really matters! I got Pastor Burrito, Nacho, and Chicken Taco. Pastor Burrito– WOW… I would return here just for this burrito, the meat wasnt Dry(like I have noticed before) the salsa, beans, rice were fresh as well. The Tortilla was also perfect, fresh and held together under my aggressive bites. Nacho– the reason they did not get 5 stars, very simple I actually prefer Taco bells nachos to these, that is sad to say… The Chicken taco though was also off the hook, the chicken was juicy, and the salsa again was fantastic, good heat but not overpowering.) So overall I would recommend this place, But I would take advantage of Unilocal and listen to people and get the carne asada fries, not the nachos. If you go I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Awesome place to have some delicious Mexican food. I’ve been here three times and each time did not disappoint! I fell in love with their pozole. Homemade tortillas! This place is worth every penny, the prices are not bad at all for the quality you get. The place is really small, that’s the only down side. So on a Sunday morning you’ll most likely have to wait some time but it’s worth it. They should really consider to expand to a bigger place.

Great little hole in the wall place. Literally. Service is friendly, quick and patient. Chips are great and the salsa bar is amazing. I got their enchiladas suizas, omg. Meat is soft, tender and amazing.

By far the most authentic and best Mexican food in all of Bakersfield. The place is kinda run-down, definitely dive-y, but worth it. Salsa bar is always a nice touch. I can only give this place four stars because upon one of our many visits, it was apparent that we were receiving the short end of the stick on service due to being the only English speaking in the building. We have been back since, and the service was better. BEST chips and salsa in town, as well.

We came by this restaurant again today around 2 pm and ordered a «menudo» to-go. It’s a huge menudo, at only $ 7.99. My husband said it’s the best menudo in Bakersfield! 4 stars. However, the service here is rather lacking(just like last time); people don’t seem to give a care that you’re standing there waiting to order since they are so extremely busy. haha… We had to wait around for at least 8 – 10 minutes just to place our«To-go» order into their system. Also, if you look at the salsa area, there are some flies flying around the chili peppers and such. Yikes! Overall, even though the menudo is fabulous, the service + cleanliness of the restaurant warrants another 3 star review this time around!

The food was excellent. It was very busy. Just by the amount of customers seated to dine in and the amount of take out orders, we could tell it was a popular place. I had the huevos con chorizo with beans, potatoes, and flour tortillas. It was so delicious! The portion size was very generous. I had enough to take home for lunch tomorrow! My husband had the sizzling enchiladas. I tasted his and loved them as well. He said, «They were awesome and I would order them again.» It was a great combination of enchiladas and fajitas. The tortillas had a nice crunch and very flavorful because of the hot, sizzling skillet. Our son had the kids enchilada. He’s picky about enchilada sauce and he said he liked his. He ate all, but 3 bites! Our other son had a corn dog… we don’t know where he comes from! lol I won’t even comment about corn dogs! lol It was very crowded with dine in and take out. We had to wait quite a long time. But, we really enjoyed our food. We will definitely come back, but the long wait will definitely detour us next time!

Blink and you’ll miss it. Actually, you’ll probably miss it even if you’re looking. Tucked away in a tiny strip mall, Tacos Las Salsas managed to put out the flavor and the service. So good in fact, people park at Mauricio’s and walk over to eat here(ya, the parking lot here can be a pain). Inside, seating is limited. It’s always busy around dinner time and it’s not unusual to see several groups of people sitting outside waiting for a table. Luckily, we walked in just as a group walked out. A waitress told us about 5 minutes and we stepped outside to wait, since there’s zero space inside. Just a quick minute and our table was ready. Within seconds chips and salsa were delivered to our table and our drink orders placed. This place is efficient! Thanks to Unilocal,we ordered the carne asada fries. We never saw these on the menu, but did notice as we were leaving it was posted on a small sign near the register. The portion was huge. Enough to share with 4 people as an appetizer, or eat yourself as an entrée. The pozole, which was that days special, was pretty good. It lacked a bit of spice and the meat was tough, but the flavor overall was good. My only problem was that the soup was insanely hot! I sat there for a good 30 minutes waiting for it to cool down enough to consume. Thankfully, the tortillas helped curb my hunger. In the end, I had to take the pozole to go. They packed it up in a container filled the quart size up! I didn’t realize there was that much pozole. Certainly enough for two people. Prices are reasonable, and the food is good. The star of the night was definitely the carne asada fries. There’s something really authentic and warm about this place.
