we like to have an occasional meal here! love the dinner food! I have always had a different plate and have always left happy and full. the portion size is good here and the staff is always very friendly! from time to time though there is a crowd of people that I don’t feel comfortable around so I avoid the place when I see a bunch of lifted trucks and a pack of «bros.» lol. other than that highly recommended for a local spot. I’m not a huge breakfast food water but we have come a couple of times for breakfast and everybody who was in my party loved it… I usually ordered lunch food lolz

The best breakfast spot in town. HOWEVER – today we told both a waitress(going in) and kitchen crew in Spanish(leaving) that they had a pile of cardboard boxes and loose cardboard completely across the sidewalk in the parking area on the side. My husband tripped on it and righted himself before falling down. I told them it is a dangerous situation. A lot of old-timers frequent this café, and many have mobility issues. This creates a safety hazard. We were there about 25 minutes after I told the waitress and nothing was done. Liability, people, liability!

Had breakfast here on 1−28−16. The service was great and friendly. Many of my reviews focus on the service, or lack thereof. So I think it’s important to note that the service here was top notch. On top of that, the food was great. I had the chile verde omelette. I consider myself a chile verde expert, having grown up eating it and plenty of other Mexican food. A fact to which my stomach is a testament. :-) The chile verde was perfect. I rarely rate a place this highly, but in this case it’s deserving. PS: the price points are also well set. Breakfast for two including coffee and taxes was just under $ 25, not including tip. Give it a shot, you won’t regret it.

Friendly, fast service and tasty food! They use Certified Angus Beef and my favorite is the French dip sandwich. Be sure to have a side of their green beans cooked in bacon– just like my grandma used to make.

The service was good. From the parking lot it appeared to be busy but when we walked in we were able to be seated immediately. I ordered a mimosa and my boyfriend ordered a Bloody Mary. The mimosa was good and my boyfriend raved about the Bloody Mary. I ordered the snake bite omelette with sausage, pineapple and jalapeño. It was delicious, I also ordered the biscuits and gravy. The meal was very good. Boyfriend ordered the pastrami and it was the best pastrami ever!!! The service was good as well.

My favorite place for breakfast. I’m not a breakfast person in general but if I’m going to eat it this is where I want to be. I love everything I’ve had here. The service is a little slow but it has never bothered me, surprisingly, because I love coming.

Just had the most awful experience! Wanted to try this local«dive» and that’s exactly what it was. My husband ordered a margarita and it tasted straight like lime aid(have him heart burn with the one sip he took). When we told the waitress the drink wasn’t any good, she assured us that people come from all over for the food… No offer to even remake the drink. We told her we would just cash out(I mean who wouldn’t with such an awful first impression). She brought us the tan and actually charge us for the drink. I told her, excuse me, you are going to charge us for this drink when it’s disgusting and my husband cannot even drink it? She said, if you don’t want to pay for it you have to talk to the bartender… I’m not taking it off. Bottom line… The tab was $ 12. We left the drinks and a $ 20 on the table. We will NOT be going back not only due to the quality, but the service

I’ve been going here for years and the food was always good but lately its slipped and I haven’t been real happy about it. Service is always good but the food is something else lately! We ordered one plate of bacon and eggs, eggs were supposed to be over easy but came out almost hard, bacon was hardley cooked, greasy and rubbery. Kids ordered pancakes and they were like cardboard, I had to use a knife to cut them and that is bad! Me I ordered what is touted as a Chilli Colorado omelet, fat chance, it consisted of chunks of beef with some bell peppers and onion! WTH? Anyways would have given it one star if it wasn’t for the service. Oh did I mention all of the food came to us cold!

Great Bloody Mary. Food was very good. Only knock was the time. Took forever for the food to Come Out, and when it did, it had obviously been sitting for some time. Nothing worse than luke warm onion rings. Quality food and great people working there. Don’t shy away because it is a bar, it is good food with good drinks.

Ok. I was a fan of this place and honestly the food is great. Let me preface by saying the group I was with and myself have all been in the bar/restaurant industry for a long time. We came today, Sunday at 9:30 with two others. Bar seating? Nope! Even though there were five empty tables?! Weird. Put our name on this list and honestly we watched the«manager», for 35 minutes, wait for the place to clear out and then seat each server(which was two) with a four top, a two top, a six top etc all at the same time. What?! What?! Who does that? Then the«manager» had the nerve to run around and bark orders at everyone… Thank god she was wearing snowflake tights and Ugg boots or we would have never realized she was in charge! Hint the sarcasm? SNOWFLAKETIGHTS?! We actually came here since they offered bar beverages… Again… What?! Twenty minutes for a $ 10 Bloody Mary?! You say the bartender is backed up… Yet when I turn around she’s leaning over, boobs spilling out chatting it up with a man three times her age. By all means girl, do whatever you feel comfortable doing to get a tip, but also do your job! You aren’t backed up… You just have um priorities? You make your staff look bad. Hope you tip out well. All in all. You go cooks! You guys are the MVP’s. Also your hostess this morning and your busboy they should be promoted. Or paid a hell of a lot more than the«manager» or as the busboy said«highest one up right now» because she, you know the one dressed for success in her pajamas, knows nothing about running an efficient restaurant. We discussed your entire restaurant and all the things we would fix in the TWO hours we were there for brunch. Call us if you need help!

I don’t know how long J & M’s Café has been around but I have lived in Bakersfield for most of my life and before last week I hadn’t heard of it. My boss discovered it while I was on vacation and he said they had the best omelettes he has had in town. I have been here three times and each time I have had a different Omelette. The first time I went I had the Snake-Bite Omelette which was recommended by my boss so I went ahead and tried it. The egg was cooked very nicely, there is nothing worse than a crispy omelette in my opinion, the omelette had odd ingredients but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. It had beef(if I remember correctly) jalapenos and pineapples and was topped with cheese. It had a great contrast between spicy and sweet and if you are looking to try something different this isn’t a bad place to start. My second time through I had the Philly Cheese Steak Omelette. Honestly this was my least favorite out of the three, it had a little too much cheese on top for my taste but I still enjoyed it enough to eat all of it. The Omelette had all the ingredients you would expect in a Philly Cheese steak sandwich. My third and most recent time I had the California Omelette which is highlighted on the menu. It came as advertised with tomato, bacon, avocado, and cheese on top and inside. I have had California Omelettes before and usually they are nothing special, but this one sure was. The bacon which I was expecting to be scarce was actually heavily involved in the omelette and it was very thick bacon that had an incredible taste. The tomatoes and avocado were fresh which made it absolutely delightful. All 3 meals came with the option of hash browns/country potatoes and toast/biscuits and gravy. The waiting staff was very friendly and quick to refill drinks. However the last 2 times I was there it was an unusually long wait for them to take our order. But overall nothing to complain about. If you are in the Rosedale area go check this place out if you are looking for comfort food.

Great breakfast. Chile verde omelette is my fav. And the breakfast shots!!! Ask for Katey or Tori they’re the best, hard workers and super sweet girls plus they’re major hotties.

We tried: –the regular eggs Benedict with crispy hash browns. Really good! Next time I would ask for extra extra crispy hash browns and light on the sauce. –Pancakes with eggs and bacon: definitely try the pancakes. Best in town! — Steak and eggs with potatoes and a pancake on the side instead of the biscuit. Didn’t like that the steak had some fat on it but it was good overall.

I’ve been coming here for years as I travel thru town. The staff is lovely, the bartender friendly, and they make the best chicken fried chicken I’ve ever had. If you make it in for breakfast, make sure to try the chicken fried steak and a breakfast shot; it comes with a piece of bacon and tastes amazing!

Welcome to Rosedale. If you’re asking yourself — what is Rosedale? Well, it’s lifted trucks, sleeveless shirts, flat billed caps, church on Sundays, bleach blonde hair, acrylic nails, and gravy. Lots of gravy. If you can’t find at least the majority of the above on a weekend, you might want to take cover — the Apocalypse is coming. Besides having to park half-way to W.I.C. because Bro’s can’t seem to park their trucks — J & M’s is a-ok. They serve hearty breakfasts for the bro in all of us. If it ain’t fried, it’s slathered in gravy. If you’re lucky, it’s both. Stick to favorites like biscuits & gravy, chicken fried steak, and omelettes. Just don’t make the same mistake I did and order the Eggs Benedict. What was that — Velveeta?!

I can usually tell if my breakfast will be good by looking at the biscuits! Biscuits were large and fluffy. Sausage and the gravy were excellent. I ordered poached eggs and they were cooked perfectly! Downside was service. I also do not like asking for a coffee refill. I placed my cup at the end of the table and STILL had to ask for refill even though they were not busy. Waitress got more friendly when we were finishing. Loyal customers are definitely treated better based on what I saw.

Went there the other day and I must say, it was really poor service, absentminded waitress who was mainly focused on her tips at the bar than waiting tables, it wasn’t even crowded. I understand the need to make money, but I’ve seen plenty of other waitresses that were able to maintain their tables while tending to the bar. The food was alright but not enough to return to. There are many other restaurants in the area to choose from.

The service wasn’t impressive. Nobody noticed we waited to be seated before we got the waitress’ attention. After we got the table, we literally waited for like 15 mins to get menus. After we ordered food, the service improved. I don’t know what they used to cook hash browns but they had a weird taste to it. Also, they used some weird bright yellow«butter» on toast. The food was just –alright– Nothing to look forward to.

Great breakfast, Great lunch and I just need to try their dinner menu. The portions are reasonable for the price and the cook is not short on the flavor. The owner of this place also owns The Village Grill but the menus are definately different, but both very tasty. The service is great here. They are always on top of filling up your coffee and or tea. I havent tried everything but it all seems fresh and or homemade. Everyrhing I have tried though I havent been let down. A must try place if you are looking for a breakfast spot.
