Vip Lounge

I first visited the Vipper back in 1999 and have been going ever since. Back then you could smoke until your lungs were black and it was a much seedier place. Clyde was the doorman and even though he was old, he could still intimidate the tough guys.
Fast forward to 2016 and it’s a much different place. The cigarette smoke and Clyde are both gone and the place has become a little more mainstream. While retaining some of its dive character, you can find more of the college and young professional crowd having sips here on any given night. Beer is still cheap and the cocktails are still strong as ever, but now there’s a modern jukebox and TVs inside. I definitely recommend this place when looking to have a drink at a low key place during the week, but it gets ridiculously crowded during the weekends.

Seriously how can anyone give this place more than 3 stars? Only bottles of beer and I’ve never paid less than 5 dollars a beer.
It does have the feel of a dive bar that I enjoy but that’s why it’s gets the two stars.

Hands down my new favorite bar in Bako. I probably would have never come in myself because it’s in a strip mall and the name makes me think it’s a strip club or something but I’m glad my friends suggested it!
We waltzed in on a Friday night and it was empty except for a big group of guys. We were carded at the bar. It was so easy to order drinks without a huge crowd. There was plenty of lounge seating so we grabbed a table in front of the bar. The music was spot on for the vibe of the bar — it was mainly hip hop. By the time we finished our first round the bar suddenly got kind of packed! We then had Jell-​O shots and gummy bears that were reasonably priced. I think I spent $ 10.50 on a shot of fireball, a Jell-​O shot and gummy bears! :O

I was once told when I turned 21, «The VIP Lounge is the bar you take girls you don’t want to be seen with.» This isn’t entirely untrue, but I love it anyway. Drinks are strong and cheap, and the crowd ranges from all ages and walks of life. It’s a great place to get drunk and people watch.

There’s a special place in my heart for this divey joint.
Dim lights, loud music, and a faint cloud of Aquanet and Camels.
It’s where people go to get drunk. Nay, shitfaced.
Sticky red pleather booths and swivel club chairs complete the décor.
Don’t mess with the little old lady behind the bar — I’ve seen one too many dudes kicked out for just being rude. Plus, who is rude to the bartender unless you’re asking for a garnish of spit in your beer.

This is your definition of a dive bar. I liked that there was a variety of ages and walks of life sitting at the bar. I ended up sharing Spotify playlists with a 60 yr old next to me while the 20 year old across the bar tried to buy me drinks. They make the drinks strong, be careful. They have TVs everywhere and a jukebox that people were ordering a variety of song styles from all night. If I was in town I would frequent this place after work.

Great bar great atmosphere

I would have given it more stars but my last experience there was very negative. If you go in and see a girl behind the bar named Heather, do yourself a favor and just walk out or ask if someone else can serve you. Not only was she rude, but she will take advantage of your inebriation by charging you more on your bill than what you’re supposed to be paying. I’m sorry, but you cannot play dumb and add more money on someone’s bill. Horrible worker.
There’s another girl that works that that is actually gorgeous, unlike the other one, and who is actually nice. I don’t think I got her name, she was a skinny gal with blonde hair, but she is fantastic at her job, polite, hilarious, great personality, great at making drinks, and won’t charge you extra on your bill.
The other downside to this place is the horrible music that plays when there is no one paying for songs. A lot of depressing, slow music that is background noise. It puts a damper to a person wanting a good night out.

I frequent this place with my coworkers, since we work down the street. All kinds of people from all different ages are in here, it’s really comfortable and we love the jukebox. Drinks are stiff, atmosphere is relaxed. Will always come back!

Love the atmosphere here, perfect place to go to relax and have a beer, not so much if you want to watch a spots game because the music is much louder than the tv’s so you won’t be able to hear what’s going on in the game. Overall though i rely enjoy because the bar tender is very nice and good at her job.

This place is my favorite bar in bakersfield, since it has less drama than the others, it has a slightly older crowd, the drinks are very POTENT (just how we like them) and has music, what more could you ask for?

Looks very Ron Burgundy lounge like but not in 1978 san Diego. They have what I want to drink so their selection is, therefore, satisfactory!

Stopped in to have a drink and was greeted by Julia who is very friendly and made our visit very pleasurable. Love the atmosphere and staff, will be coming back!

I like VIP, it’s my go-​to bar when I just want a chill place to have a drink. It’s very dimly lit, very intimate. It makes me think of a place where cheating spouses would go to be with their significant others; it’s just really low key. Their drinks are decent priced & stiff !!

This bar is so chill! I stopped in on a Saturday and I couldn’t believe Julia from Mexicali was bartending! She is the best of all time! Now that I found out where she’s working I’ll be there all the time! What a cool surprise to find her again! Love the VIP!

I am from Boston. This bar absolutely owns. It’s got darts, babes, and whiskey. What else would you ever need?

Finally got to visit the VIP, and we had a good time. For affordable drinks, good service, and fun times with friends, then come here.

Look, the VIP Lounge really isn’t anything ridiculously special. However, you can’t help but love it.
Don’t be fooled by the suburban strip mall location; this place has some mad character. The drinks are strong and cheap. The service is friendly. They allow outside food. The televisions are plentiful. The cheesy, swivel chairs with glittery red upholstery are rather comfortable. The restrooms are clean. The toilet paper is surprisingly (almost disturbingly) soft. However, the biggest character feature is the toilet whose tank is sealed with a duct-​taped strip of a flattened Newcastle beer case. Don’t ask – just look at the photo I uploaded.

You probably already know her, the chubby blonde bartender who thinks she’s Hot. WELL, SHE SUCKS!!! I’m in the service industry & in short, I am a good tipper. That being said, I was there tonight (Christmas). Everyone was havin drinks and celebrating. Especially the NOT HOT bartender who“s letting guys shove tips in her sweaty cleavage I wait while she collects her money. Finally, she takes my order. 3 Buds, thats it! She then holds my beers running her mouth to some guy for a good min. I gave her a 50cent tip which she deserved after I sat down the chubby bitch threw the quarters at me… so I had to put her fat ass on blast no one should’ve ever hired her flabby fat ass she’s lucky she’s in bako cause she would never get a bar tending job anywhere else she needs to get on a treadmill and stick to light beers. I’m no Unilocal gangster thats not going to say my name so… Rob Boyd said it hahaha

This place was A-​OK.
Cheap booze, good and cheap cocktails. Their beer selection kinda sucked balls. I got 4 drinks for 15 bux… on a Saturday, thats a good thing in my book.
No douchebagery at all either. Much surprised for bakersfield.
