We stopped in for a bite before our trip back to NYC. We had the sweetest service and great food at affordable prices! We will definitely stop in again on our next trip up.

Hubby and I headed to Sunset Café about 2 weeks ago, we had eaten here shortly after moving from Niskayuna(12/2014)and downsizing to a 55+ condo in Milton. We had obtained coupons from but forgot them! At any rate we enjoyed a great meal, well prepared and nicely presented. Service was good and the call ahead paid off with a window view of Front St. My steak fajita’s were delicious and hubby liked his selection. Drinks were reasonable(good wine selection) and it was a very pleasant evening. Comfortable place, friendly service and attentive owner made this a special evening & I highly recommend this cozy spot!

Oh, Sunset… you have the best margaritas around, and I love your quesadillas, chipotle meatloaf, and cajun pasta, which make you one of my main-stay places. But a couple of simple things would make you so much better — the salsa was so disappointing last time we went… just a scallion or two away from tasting like plain tomatoes — and the tomato chunks were off-puttingly huge as well. And again, I have to complain about the hot sauce. Red Hot is for chicken wings. No one wants it as a stand alone condiment. Get some Melinda’s and do us all a favor. I’ll keep coming back, but I’m really getting tired of Red Hot.

Notice off the bat that there wasn’t a waitress. The owner acted as the waitress, Which was odd and disappointing. You rarely saw him and his service was not that good. IDK what the situation was due to not having a waitress but it’s one he should invest in because he isn’t that good of a people’s person. As for the food, We had a couple of burgers and there were so-so. Nothing to write home about and slightly below par of what we are use to. The desserts were the worst part of the experience. First would be the cheesecake, which honestly isn’t that bad and I love the brownie crust for it. It was ruined by the fact that it’s covered in this awful tasting chocolate syrup. It ruins the whole dessert. You couldn’t take even a nibble without getting a mouthful of it and it sucks. The peach cobbler was flat out awful and didn’t taste like a real cobbler. I ordered it to go and when I got home I took a few bites and immediately threw it out. Overall, It was a very unsatisfying experience. It’s overly expensive and the food/service is no where near as good as what we are use to. It’s not a place that we would visit again and we wouldn’t recommend it either.

Above average choice for a casual meal. The manageable menu has a few twists that lift it from the ordinary; there was a bit of apple chutney in my pulled pork sandwich and andouille sausage in my potato salad(I couldn’t actually find it, but the potatoes were fresh and tender and the dressing well-balanced). There are several Mexican entrees and side menus of specialty cocktails and house-made desserts(the fried ice cream seems to be a favorite). Prices are more than fair – my pulled pork on a generous Kaiser roll with choice of side was $ 8.99. The location is an older building right on Front Street. You go through a little entry hall to reach the dining room; duck your head if you’re tall. The room was a tad chilly on the first snow day of the season, but I solved that by leaving my coat on.

Just left. We waited for drinks for 10 minutes. The server actually brought us water and said they were«making» our drinks… glass of wine and bottle of beer. Food was not good, cold, and service was very, very slow. Tables around us were also asking the bartender for help in getting drinks, food. The table tent with the wine, beer and desert list was sticky and cloudy. All together a very disappointing experience.

Food is excellent, I’ve been here multiple times and have enjoyed everything I had. They don’t skimp on the drinks and you definitely get your money’s worth. Wait staff are nice but sometimes don’t come back to the table often enough.

Sunset Café is THE place if you want really good wood-fired Southwestern food. I don’t know if this is why the restaurant is soooo hot in the summer so I tend to stay away during warmer weather but their Quesadillas are FANTASTIC. I highly recommend the Shrimp Quesadilla year round and the Veggie Quesadilla when in season. Their corn chowder is to die for, and my husband loves the Cowboy steak. Did I mention the awesome onion rings? Note: Everything here is freshly made, so do not expect your food to be thrown together and delivered in 5 mins. This is a relax, drink a beer or margarita — and dinner will be with you shortly. If you’re in a hurry, this is not the place to stop. Only wishes I have to give it a 5 star rating would be for AIRCONDITIONING and please, pretty please bring back your awesome Crème de Brulee on the dessert menu!

The food is really delicious and the atmosphere is really fun, but the service is really slow:-/ we always have to plan for that when going there. Sometimes is takes 45 minutes to get your food and you may be sitting with an empty drink for a while. But aside from that I would absolutely recommend it to those who don’t mind the slow service.

I came here with my Mother the other day, sunset always has great margaritas! I ordered the house marg w salt, they also have a good assortment of beer to choose from. My mother and I ordered the quesadillas, spinach and mushroom and the shrimp quesadilla. They have about ten different quesadillas to pick from. I would highly recommend the shrimp or pulled pork and for veggie eaters the spinach and mushroom is delish! You can’t go wrong with any of them! If you’re looking for a dinner or lunch with good drink selection and a cute atmosphere, sunset it is!

We drove here from Saratoga specifically to get fast service during track season as opposed to the craziness of downtown Saratoga. There were two occupied tables in the whole restaurant and both already had their food. Another table came in 20 min later. That table got their food before us. An hour later our table of 2 got our lukewarm meals. The chicken fajitas were no where near sizzling and felt like they had been under a heat lamp for most of the wait time. When the waitress asked how they were, I told he’d «just alright, not hot but I’m hungry after waiting so long so I’ll eat them». No apologies for the ridiculously long wait time. Just offered to throw it back on the grill which would only have made the chicken tougher. Even the tortillas themselves were cold in the little«warmer». Inexcusable in such a slow restaurant and not so much as one comped drink. We are locals and this was the third new try for us this week. We can’t wait to return to the other two restaurants. We won’t be back here.

Reasonable food, reasonable prices. I’ve been several times. I was never really blown away by anything, but there’s nothing to complain about either. I like them, and I would definitely go back if I were in the area and hungry!

Decent at best. Food was decent at best. Service was slow and terrible. Took our menus before we even ordered. Had to ask multiple times for drink refills. Was my first time here and I would not be returning again.

Casual and very good food. Good beer selection on tap and bottles. Yummy pulled pork sandwich with apple chutney on top. The pulled pork is flavorful and a little spicy. Excellent service. Friendly. Will become regulars here!

My first experience at Sunset Café proved to be very nice. When my gf and I first walked inside we were confused with the setup. The entrance is narrow, musty corridor that makes you think you entered a funeral home. Once inside the dining area we were greeted by tacky décor(random strings of lights hanging, various weird art pieces and paintings on the walls), but luckily those seemed to be the only slightly negative attributes of this restaurant. SERVICE: Our server was very nice and attentive. I wish she’d given her name so we could give her a shout-out online, and unfortunately the best description of her is that she’s a pretty blonde with dark eyes(Very specific. I know. :-/). She was quick to refill our waters and kept tabs on us frequently, so we never had to flag her down for something. FOOD: We thought the food here was delicious. For an appetizer we ordered the fried calamari($ 7.99), and I could tell it was fresh vice frozen. Some places try to pull that stunt, and it’s annoying when they do. Fortunately, the calamari here didn’t have the rubbery texture of the frozen kind. Unlike other places which typically serve marinara sauce with calamari, this was served with a white sauce and lemons. It wasn’t sour cream; it tasted more like a Greek yogurt sauce. We each had quesadillas as our entrees. My gf got the pulled pork one($ 8.99), whereas mine was filled with shrimp($ 9.99). Both were served with sour cream(they didn’t skimp on that) and salsa, which appeared to be homemade. We had no complaints about these. They were delicious, and thankfully they were sizable portions. My guess is they were approximately an inch thick, so they were stuffed quite well. We shared fried ice cream($ 3.99) for dessert, which we also really liked. Sunset’s fried ice cream is unique in the sense that it doesn’t have traditional breading, but rather it’s encased in crushed corn flakes. It was certainly different, but it was very good, and it’s also topped with caramel. VALUE: This place seems reasonably priced for most of its offerings. A few things were a bit higher than average(i.e. ribs), but overall the bang for the buck is good. If you’re a dessert person, this is a place to buy them because Sunset’s desserts don’t cost an arm and a leg, and they’re decently sized. Before tax our bill was 30.96, which for an appetizer, two entrees, and a share dessert isn’t bad. You’ll probably leave this place full and happy. TL;DR = Sunset Café offers tasty food of sizable portions for reasonable prices.

While I was in the area I was looking for a place for a fast lunch. I came upon this place and saw that it wasn’t that busy. I entered and ended up sitting at the bar and ordered a unsweetened ice tea and a chicken csaer wrap with fries. While waiting for my lunch I was reading other reviews I totally agree that they need to get the A/C working because it was hot and muggy in the restaurant. Food came out and it looked good, the dressing that was in the wrap was tasty, could totally tell they make the dressing in house. The fries were cooked correctly. Over all a really good lunch. I would come back if in the area to try out some of their dinner entrée’s. Just would have to be in the fall or winter because the their lack of air condition.

Could’ve been 5(++) stars but, actually, its 3 ½ stars and here’s why. Our dinners were ABSOLUTELYOUTSTANDING but the temperature in the joint was nearly unbearable. Sweat, literally, dripping off my brow. Wicked hot & humid outside, very old building, and the a/c just wasn’t … nearly … up to the challenge. The only slight coolness, at all, was in the bar … on my way to the men’s room.(Yeah, I thought about it but she’da killed me, y’know?) Almost left but glad we didn’t. Not sure if it was a temporary a/c breakdown … should’ve asked but didn’t. «Cowboy steaks» for both of us. My wife forced me to finish her’s and if I could always be sure that it’d be cooked so perfectly I’d order«medium rare» every time, anywhere. Mine(medium) was great but her’s was absolute perfection. BUT!!! Ya really gotta do something about the a/c, folks. SWELTERING, both inside & out, last night but, judging from the nearly full house(on a Thursday night), y’oughta seriously consider some investment in some much needed a/c upgrades, y’know? Only other«complaint» is the manageable(for us) but not-so-friendly handicap access. Love the old town/old building atmosphere and, because of that, we understand but just wish there was an affordable way to make«old stuff» more accessible, is all. We’ll be back … but probably not when its real hot outside.

Have gone here quite a few times but the last two times were not good. Food was good service was terrible! First time soup came same time as meal(waitress forgot).Tonight we ordered second drinks when the waitress asked and fifteen minutes after we finished our meals we had to ask another waitress for our bill and asked what happened to drinks, she stated waitress didn’t know we wanted another drink(forgot). Very poor service will not return.

I’m from the Southwest so I’ve had many quesadillas in my day. A new friend took me to the Sunset Café in Ballston Spa. Frankly, the last thing I wanted was Tex-Mex or Southwest anything, but I decided to deal with it. We had the potato soup for an appetizer. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t completely wow me. For our entrée we each ordered the spinach, mushroom and cheese quesadilla. For a few dollars more, we had them add steak done medium. Bottom Line: This was the BEST quesadilla I’ve ever had. Really. The steak was done perfectly and there wasn’t one single bit of gristle, which equals maximum food happiness. Please know, I HATE gristle and fat and I never would have ordered the steak unless my friend urged me to. I think this entire quesadilla experience may have changed my life for the better. *Update: I took my family to Sunset Café since I wanted them to taste the best quesadillas in the world, which they did(and loved). My husband ordered the meatloaf which came with a chipotle sauce. Holy guacamole — this was stuff you dream about — and I don’t even care for chipotle flavor. I’m not kidding, this meatloaf with its potatoes… oooohh. I actually broke into his take home box and ate some meatloaf. I just nibbled from the underneath so he wouldn’t know. Crazy right? It was THAT good. What is up with this restaurant? I think they have people brewing enchantments in the back. «Eat this and you’ll think of it forever. Mwaaaahaaaa.». We ate there about 2 months ago and last night hubby said to me, «I keep thinking about that meatloaf.». Oh, and the quesadilla was still as kick-a** as ever. Sigh. I love yummy places.

This is my second review for Sunset Café because the first one was placed in the Filtered heap! Just for the record, I do not know anyone personally at Sunset Café, and there is no advantage to my leaving a positive review(are you listening, Friends at Unilocal?). My first experience was such a pleasure that I returned once again, and had another very good meal. Great storefront restaurant with cool atmosphere, moderate prices, parking on the side street if not available on busy Front Street. Had the steak quesadillas this time, and they were excellent. Can’t wait to share this«find» with my friends!
