First time here and I loved it! Very friendly feel and the owner even stopped to chat with us. I wish someone had warned us about the portions! We ordered an app and 2 sandwiches and ended up each having to take a half each in a to go bag. Really would have preferred not to carry anything around but it’s still better than getting too little to eat. The popcorn was a nice touch as well. Nice local bar. Definitely recommending it to friends.

I live in canton and the boyf lives in Mt Vernon which means we usually hop between the two, occasionally in fells on the way. Which meant that even thought bar liquorice had been on our to do list since we met, it took months to finally head out across town to give it a try. He had been there before but aside from telling me about the candy on the bar, left most of the experience as a surprise. The moment we arrived I was charmed, the popcorn arrived immediately and was quite delicious, the drink list is extensive and the fact that you are encouraged to order off the drink menu is always a plus. I went with the night’s special, a vanilla whiskey and warmed cider drink that really hit the spot on a cold saturday night. We were hoping to eat light so we ordered the cheese and charcuterie plates, having become used to the other bars in baltimore that keep those offering sparse. To my surprise we were instead delivered two overflowing cutting boards full of delicious meats, cheeses, marmalades, bread and fruit. We took our time picking at our plates while the staff kept our glasses full. My boyfriend becoming kind of tired of the sweet drinks on the menu asked for a «bourbon drink, less sweet» and was delivered exactly what he was looking for. The biggest surprise arrived just as we were about to ask for our check. Out of nowhere a glass full of their infamous nutella bread pudding arrived, a gift from the owner because I was«new». A bar that really goes out of their way to make you feel like they want your business is truly something special. We will be making the trip across town much more often from now on.

I coulda hung out in Bar Liquorice all night, but I don’t think they’d let me curl up for a nap in the back. It’s a small space — the«kitchen» is essentially a sandwich press and prep table at the far end of the bar. There’s a cozy little lounge in the back with a couple of sofas to slouch on if that’s your thing. First thing — the staff here are great. The bartenders engage with the patrons, mix drinks to your personal tastes, and aren’t shy with recommendations. Jeff the owner is always looking out for his guests and making sure they’re enjoying themselves. They almost treat you like family. Anything you need? Have some snacks while you’re waiting. First time here? Hey, welcome back! Second — the food is tasty and huge. The fruit and cheese plate is enough to split between four people. For two, it’s almost a meal. Multiple generous slabs of soft and hard cheeses, berries, apples, grapes, marmalade, and baguettes. Sandwiches are piled with fillings and pressed between crispy slabs of herbed, buttered baguette. Honestly, my next trip’s probably going to be a cheese plate and a charcuterie platter, the better for extended noshing while you drink. Speaking of which. Third — the drinks are solid. My old-fashioned was mixed up with a sugar-beet liqueur instead of the usual simple syrup, and Mrs. N got interesting variations on the French 75 and kir cocktails — the latter with a fruit-infused cognac and a drizzle of maraschino cherry syrup. Four beer taps serve up an eclectic selection — I went with an easy-drinking gose(sour wheat beer) that was really food-friendly and cut the pork fat in my sandwich(their take on a Cubano). More brews are available in bottle/can. They’ve got a fair handful of interesting digestif bitters behind the bar, too. I sipped on some lightly chilled Becherovka to ease my monster meal of cheese and porky goodness. And last — it’s a Baltimore bar. Which means you’re going to sit down and either start or get pulled into a conversation with your fellow drinkers. So pull yourself up a barstool, grab some Red Vines, order up a drink and hang for a while. This is one of the best places to chill out in town.

great service as the owner is walking the floor to make sure everything is okay and explains everything with great detail. The small plates are anything but small. The three of us had two small plates and walked away so full we couldn’t even come close to finishing everything. Needless to say we didn’t need to order anything else for dinner. The place is a little tight which makes it cozy and intimate. No large parties here but great hangout spot for friends and date nights.

Great service. Really liked the friendly vibe and the hot Italian sandwich I ordered was very tasty. Jalapeño aolei was a nice dipping sauce for the sandwich. Good selection of local /east coast beers available. It’s a small little place. Probably a good place to grab a cocktail on a cold night out…

I chose to spend my New Years Eve here. This place is awesome. The Bartenders are very attentive and friendly. I had a drink in hand within 5 minutes of walking in the door. The owner is so down to earth. He introduced himself and made sure I was taken care of. They offer so many types of liquor. I ordered him and to tonic. They have huge TV’s and are very affordable. There is parking in the shopping plaza behind it but if gives you time to walk off your buzz. Don’t drink and drive! Visit this place if you’re in town.

This place is great. I don’t want to say that its a hole in the wall, but it certainly doesn’t get much notariaty, nor does it have a huge sign identifying where it is in South Baltimore. It has a friendly corner bar feel when you walk in; with an old fashioned classic twist. I must say a visit with Shaun makes it worth it — he knows his stuff and he seemed to encourage a dialogue. I love this in a bartender; I like to chat with strangers and I like to learn things. Its’ welcoming and so charming with the red and black licorice and tons of good and plenty in mason jars all around the bar. They also greet you with fresh popped popcorn, which was perfect because I was in a snacky kind of indecisive mood. I have a little bit of a cocktail bug these days and really relished a chance to check out the menu. My dear friend went with an Old Fashioned that Shawn managed to taste like a rootbeer, but not that syrupy fake rootbeer flavor, which is definitely helping me grow my taste for whiskey and bourbon and finished with lighting the orange peel on fire. I stuck with my favorite spirit — gin. Gin, with a little muddled mint and lime. I will be making this at home, for sure. My first round was delightful, so we stayed for a second. My friend opted for the stay classy. Bar Liquorice uses Ron Burgundy«Great Odins Raven», with a little fresh ginger and a simple made with honey. Next, they add a Laphroig 10 year float. It’s not my cup of tea, but he thought it was perfect. I went with a version of the French 75. And… also a cheese, fruit and charcuterie plate. Three meats, three cheeses, every type of fruit you could think of, plus a house made jam. The duck pâté was creamy and a nice gamey flavor. I liked it with the Cahill’s Irish Porter Cheddar and the stone ground mustard. They don’t skimp on the cheese here — huge chunks of gouda and a pepperdew and roasted red pepper cheddar. The other meats, a ham and a salami, were not as much of a star on the plate, but for$ 13, we split it among four and each had plenty of food. Oh, and wait… I forgot to mention the warm, crusty herb flavored bread that came with this. Unlike some other places, they give you plenty of bread and don’t make you beg for more every three minutes.

«I’m a salty dog» by: Kevin grade: 26 11/28/2015 We learn to argue somewhere in high school. Yet on Unilocal we share –our– opinions as if fact. You don’t like your first try at bresaola, so a place gets 2*. They canceled your res. 1*. They dropped a plate. 1*. It’s wrong to do but I’m gonna do exactly that. I love absinthe. I love chartreuse VEP. Sweet ass bourbon drinks are my wheelhouse. So when so I say BL is too sweet. you can take it as «FACT». Weird 80s vibe is hella Goodfellas when Henry gets outta jail the first time and they do the house up again. And. IT. IS. SWEET. Like grandma knitting you a sweater sweet. Except you’re Kevin McCallister and you’re gonna get beat up cause the sweater has a dinosaur on it. Both«bartenders choice» cocktails were anise dominant to extreme, orange peel and licorice not helping. And they were similar. why not«choice» to display different strengths? Bar treats are sweet. licorice, twizzlers, and candy corn. Popcorn was nice but not alongside sweet cocktails with twizzlers chunks stuck between your teeth. At the same time they’re free and one of the few spots doing this in Bmore(Benders, Mike McGuverns, Spirits…). So to hell with me I know sweet’s their thing, but I’ll stick to a saltier place. I’m a salty dog and I’ve got my opinions, but you might as well count them as fact. ***The Nutella pudding dessert was AWESOME, so I will be back. I’m not that salty

I came here just for some drinks and it was a great experience. The atmosphere is fun and laid back. The cocktail selection is very diverse and they even serve you some addictive popcorn that is drizzled with rosemary oil — so delicious. I got the Limoncello Collins, Sassy Doctor, and the Alias Pinot Noir. I wanted the Sassy Doctor to be cut with soda water as I don’t like drinks that are too sweet… I would say this was my least favorite drink out of the three. The blue curaçao floater was over poured and my drink looked electric blue… but it wasn’t bad because it was cut with soda water. The Limoncello Collins was my absolutely favorite, so tasty and easy to drink. I would definitely come back again to try the food menu.

From the food and service to the décor and ambiance, everything about this place was awesome! The bartender made delicious drinks, and the owner was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We started with cocktails and their bruschetta, which was topped with a fig-balsamic reduction… Mouth party! The owner made us a new appetizer to sample. After we demolished that delightful food tower, we were left with a plate of balsamic and oil. Rather than clear our plate, he read the mind of our inner fat kid and popped a freshly warmed baguette onto the plate. Genius! Everything was so amazing that we couldn’t stop ourselves from ordering sandwiches. They were served with a side of Cool Ranch Doritos — a chip so spectacular that it gets its own shout out in SNL Slam Poetry (go to 2:10). Why would you not come here?!

This time I would like to concentrate on the mixologist. His name is Sean and he is completely committed to providing a excellent experience for all patrons. He has created a beer list that is ever evolving. There are many specialty beers to choose from. If you are looking for Natty Boh, this isn’t the place. Sean’s real expertise is mixing complex drinks. His drinks are multidimensional. Delicious in a way that wine is complex and delicious. It is really a treat and relaxing evening out when I go to Bar Liquorice.

AMAZING! We enjoyed a few delicious beverages, a delicious sandwich, and the opportunity to just hang out and enjoy our time without being rushed out the door. The owner, Jeff, was our server and he was fantastic. He took the time to explain anything on the menu we had questions about and even provided us with a complimentary Nutella bread pudding after we were ready to close out for the night. Everyone gets complimentary Rosemary olive oil popcorn and licorice, which is a great snack to share over conversation with good company. If you are looking for a place to have a quick drink or get intoxicated quickly, then you should visit another bar down the street. I love that this is a little more«grown up» establishment and not catering to the party crowd just looking to get obliterated on a weekend. We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu offerings, but I can recommend the«bang mi» sandwich. Also, if you are a bit adventurous with your beverage choice, just say«make me a bicycle, clown» and you will get a creative recipe of the bartenders choice.

Tiny place with a tiny food menu, but tons of personality. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable, not just about liquor and cocktails but also about beers(especially local beer). The manager makes delicious rosemary-infused popcorn and brings it to your table, and you also get unlimited licorice which is cool(I’m not a huge fan though). When we finally tried their food, I was a bit disappointed in the«banh mi» which was not a banh mi at all. It was a pulled pork panini with kimchi and an aioli on the side. Very, very delicious, but being Vietnamese I take the term«banh mi» pretty seriously. I was glad to see that they had at least corrected the spelling(I hate it when places spell it bahn mi, and almost everyone does). Will be back to try other food since it WAS delicious and the staff is wonderful.

You walk in to a tiny corner bar and grab a front row sit to some of the best in house concoctions this side of the mason dixon line! I“ve been here a half dozen time with friends and have never been disappointed. Shawn takes cocktail to another atmosphere selecting blends that you scratch your head on when seen on paper but once it hits your lips, game changer! My favorite a Manhattan from a special barrell blend is a must try. If that’s not you’re style the selection and bartenders on the fly drinks will certainly hit the spot. If you have the munchies while here you can get your fill. Popcorn. just not any type of popcorn rosemary olive oil. You can’t have one handful try maybe a couple plate fulls. Its that good. Sandwiches served with doritos. Need I say more. I had a dream about it so a second visit was happening without a question. Candy bowls all around the place you can fill up on till you have a tummy ache. Almost forgot to mention movie night! Not sure what night but just come by and find out for yourself!

My wife and I went here for a casual date night and loved it. They really try hard to make this place friendly and welcoming. Complimentary jars of licorice were everywhere, and the rosemary popcorn was great too. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The whole place had a really relaxed vibe. Cocktails were simple and sophisticated, but they will also happily create a custom drink for you based on your preferences. The food menu is limited, but everything was excellent. The charcuterie plate was ridiculously large, and included a wide variety of deli meats and cheeses(the guinness cheddar looked strange but was delicious) along with fruit and fresh baked bread. The«El Jeffe» sandwich is a variation on a cuban, made special because they make their own pulled pork barbecue which has a rich sauce with a hint of roasted coffee beans. Also worth mentioning for those coming from out of town like us — there is free convenient parking in the shopping center around the corner. It’s easy to get in and out without having to deal with city traffic.

Went back last night for the nutella bread pudding — OMG, Soooo good! Chocolaty gooey warm — with extra nutella on top, perfect bite size chunks of chocolatey bread, all topped with fresh whipped cream. You must try this! Also of note — Jeff & team made non-alcoholic drinks for my niece and nephew and they are still talking about how great they were. Unique flavors and spices — which really sums it up — unique and delicious food, drinks, and atmosphere!

Had a wonderful first time experience at Bar Licorice. First off, my table was treated like we were CELEBRITIES! Granted, we were the only ones there(6pm on Wednesday) but we still had AMAZING service. The owner came and sat with us on multiple occasions. He was friendly and really made us feel like we were at home. The bar tender was extremely knowledgable and helped us with his own suggestions. They even have an option for you to chose your liquor and tell them what flavors you like and they’ll make you your own special drink! I was with a group of 3 and they offered to split everything into threes for us and plated it individually for us. Everything was delicious! It’s a small menu so if you’re a very picky eater this may not be the place for you but if you’re flexible and like good hearty food then this menu is for you!(If you still have an appetite after being filled up on complimentary candy and Rosemary popcorn!) I will definitely be coming back!
