This is a really busy carry out. I was advised by friends to call in my irdet, which I did. When I arrived one hour after orderingmy food was not ready and I waited while 3 walk in orders were filled. When I asked about my order the young lady was rude and ignorant. I was raised on Poplar Grove street and I know how to respond to rude and ignorant. The food was okay. The mac n cheese was great, the crab fries were awful, the fried stuffed shrimp were excellent. Great Grand could become a really good soul food restaurant. It owns shame that a city with morw than 75%.Black had not had a decent Soul food restaurant since Micah’s.

Great Granns is the best tasting food close to Reservoir Hill. Everything is made from scratch which means that sometimes they run out of a food item. I’ve never walked away becase there are so many options on the menu that are delicious.

This place has some out of this world food. So far I love all the dishes I have bought from this spot. I strongly recommend it to everyone to try them you won’t regret it. Food so good you will always be back for more. Never a long line. Food doesn’t take long at all and well worth every penny.

I stopped by around 1pm on a Monday as I’ve been hearing great things and rarely find myself in this area. They seemed to have everything available but I was very disappointed, the service was quick but the food itself was mediocre. I got the bbq salmon and maybe salmon isn’t the best choice at a soul food place in Baltimore because it was overcooked and not that flavorful. The yams and green beans were actually pretty tasty but the mac and cheese was bland.

I come here often times bc i work right up the street actually the next block up. They are a little slow on service and often times run out of food. But on their good days, the food is really good. They have lunch specials and the prices are very reasonable. I just wish they’d pick up the pace a little bit. I will always eat here and try new things. The mac and cheese is the best and the shrimp po boy will leave you drooling.

Let me preface this review by saying that my bar for soul food is pretty high. I had a southern grandmother who loved to pass down generations of southern cooking recipes to me; I sat in the kitchen watching her turn scraps into gourmet meals. As a result, I can cook soul food so my expectations are fairly high when I pay for a «soul food“meal. I had been hearing a ton of hype about Great Granns and when I coincidentally found myself in the neighborhood I decided to give it a try. I ordered the wings platter(8 pieces– which is actually 4 wings split into drums and flats) which came with two sides. My original choice was to get greens and mac and cheese but unfortunately the greens were sold out. I opted for the string beans and mac and cheese instead. The first thing I noticed was that my chicken was slightly burnt. The other problem was the mac and cheese was fairly one dimensional– like they just added velveeta with no other cheeses to add some complexity to the dish. I can understand why other folks rate this place so high– they haven’t had mine or my grandmothers cooking.

I came in on a Sunday afternoon to order some food. I couldn’t decide what I wanted. It took me about 5mins to decide so I went to the cashier and placed a BBQ chicken dinner(they didn’t have any).I was upset about that. Then I went back to the menu and decided to order BBQ ribs and of course they didn’t have them either. After the second order I just left because that don’t make any sense. But the cashier was nice. I will go back when they have some inventory

The FOOD is excellent! I gave 4 stars mainly because it took along time to get my food that I had ordered 30minutes in advance, also my friend was with me and she ordered chicken salad. Why does it take 45 minutes for chicken salad. Lol. I give them the benefit of the doubt though because it was a lot of people in there. If the review was based solely on the food the it would be 5STARS. I also think it’s kind of on the pricey side. I paid $ 21 for what ordered which was the Chicken stuffed with crab and sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese with all thy being said I would eat here again and again! It was that good! Those yams are A1, like your great grandma used to make

As soon as you walk in you smell the delightful scent of soul food. At first the door is a bit hard to enter from but it just requires a hard push. I recommend that you call first instead of just ordering inside since the food is made fresh it takes a while to make. The food is wonderful and it seems as if it is very popular to order from there. Support small businesses and try it out!

This place is great! Good quality food and good staff… the crab fries are my personal favorite as well as the desserts, the Mac and cheese, greens, tilapia, chicken… and oh! The great granns sauce!!! They should bottle it and sell it! My only tip would be to call your order in so you don’t have to wait and you will know if something isn’t available that day.

All I know is this. I live about an hour away from this place and I would make the trip back up 95 to revisit. The food is great, the business seems to be family owned. I ordered the stuffed salmon dinner w/yams and greens and the grilled chicken dinner with the same sides. both dishes came up to a total of $ 30(20 for the salmon, 10 for the chicken). My only issue that could have possibly caused me not even to bother was regarding them not answering the phone. I originally called and got an answer but i had to tell them guy that answered that I will need to call right back(I was trying to order food for myself and a indecisive elder relative). I assume they thought I was playing on the phone because I was calling from a 202 number because they never picked the phone back up after that(tried calling back 4 – 5 times in a 30 minute span, even whn I couldnt find the place and was about to just say forget it).

I’m so glad I came here today! Omg as soon as you walk in the door you get hit with the amazing smell of soul food. Great customer service and the prices are amazing. I’m here for the lunch menu! I feel like I did not spend any money at all lol. The only issue is parking and for some people the area is not good per se in Baltimore lol I’m going to be a repeat customer! For sure.

The food here is awesome, but the customer service is rude and the cashiers are not friendly at all. They never open on the posted times either! This is why Chinese restaurants get my money, because black restaurants lack basic common sense and don’t realize that success is repeatedly doing the same thing to achieve the thing that got you there!

First impression of this restaurant is a good one. The food was good and the customer service was great. Service was a little bit slow so I recommend you call your order in ahead of time.

Yesterday was my first time going. I had heard great things about the establishment. I enjoyed it overall. The wait was a bit long but they food is prepared to order I believe. They were also busy, somewhat. Pricing is okay. Staff is friendly and courteous. The menu is varied so that may prove difficult to select from for some people because they offer tempting meals. I would recommend to friends.

Friendly staff, huge portions, lots of variety on the menu. Cornish hen and sweet potato pie are especially good. First visit today, definitely won’t be my last… ***edited review the Cornish hen was removed from the menu*** other stuff, with the exception of the macaroni and cheese, was really good but Cornish hen was what was really doing it for me. This was the only soul food spot I know of serving them but that is no more):

I was getting really tired of seeing all of the yummy-looking food photos on IG(@greatgranns) so we had to go try it. OMG. Totally worth the 30 min drive. The restaurant is not located in the best area, but that doesn’t matter once you step inside. Immediately, you can smell the deliciousness coming from the kitchen. You can tell a lot about a restaurant from that initial smell. If it ain’t right, leave! Great Granns is more take-out friendly, so don’t expect to come here with the fam and sit down after Sunday morning service. There are a few barstools if you really can’t wait and you want to eat while you are there(we should have — we ended up pulling over to eat because it smelled so good). We ordered the catfish nuggets/fries combo and the BBQ platter w/two sides(greens and baked Mac). Delicious. The BBQ chicken was pulled off the bone so no messy eating. The greens were perfect — not too salty or sour and fresh. The baked Mac — holy crap! They used ziti noodles and the portion was super small in comparison to the greens but it was still good. The BBQ chicken was good too. My catfish nuggets were insane! They almost tasted sweet. My only complaint was that they were a little on the salty side, and I should have asked for some sort of dipping sauce. Lastly, the triple threat: tea/lemonade/fruit punch. I would have never even thought to mix all three of them, but they’ve improved the half & half, my friends. A perfect addition to your meal. We will definitely be back soon. What a gem.

I’ve driven past this place a dozen or so times and have never stopped. Finally I did and I’m glad. A small gem on North Avenue or Druid Heights, depending on who you ask; Great Granns boasts Southern fare. It also has other options ranging from tasty, savory salads to pit beef(turkey as well). If the smell of the smoker doesn’t draw you near, your olfactories are numb. I dined on the Fried Whiting sandwich for lunch. It came with 3 pieces of perfectly fried, seasoned,& battered whiting with Bread. For 6.50 the serving size was awesome. I found myself with more fish than bread but, that’s never a bad thing. My coworker’s ordered and enjoyed the Salmon Salad, as well as the grilled Chicken over rice. The wait for our food was minimal and the service was courtesous. In addition to being on Facebook, @greatgranns can be found on Instagram making you hungry. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

Just gave Great Granns a shot. We ordered the lobster bites dinner, fried tilapia dinner with shrimp, and had asparagus, greens and mac’n cheese. The best thing about any of this was the mac’n cheese. The tilapia was dry, the lobster was not recognizable by taste as lobster and the sides were bland and not seasoned very well. The whole lot was pricey as well for carryout coming to $ 37 for two carryout dinners +a small mac’n cheese. The sandwiches coming out looked really good and we’re priced pretty cheaply. We’ll give it another go and try to order a little better next time.

New soul food spot on W North Ave. Neighborhood may be a little shady, great food and generous portions. The shrimp platter is to die for. Large shrimp in a flavorful cream sauce. Served over seasoned yellow rice with a side of asparagus. Check out this new spot and see what you think. Go early. They tend to run out of the favorites early in the day.
